New Me, New Life, and New Town?
Ellie's POV:
"Well that's the last box!" My best friend, and sister who's family adopted me when my parents decided to overdose on heroine when I was ten, Anasoara says to me with a relieved huff.
"I know! i thought we would never finish!" I reply tired, but excited.
"Are you sure about this? I mean yes, we are both twenty five and no longer live in up-state NY with our parents, but do you really want to move all the way to North Carolina to what's-its-name's town from NYC, where I am and we are close to everything you and I know? It is a huge step." Ana questions concerned for me.
"I am. After the whole college experience, the nonstop bustle of city life, and my cheating ex-boyfriend and his not-so-nice comments, I am done up here. I need simple, quiet, and Southern Sweet-Tea." I say with my mind made up, and my nerves in a jumble.
You see, I am fresh out of my graduate studies in public policy at Columbia. It was a great opportunity and got me over my home-sickness I felt while studying at Boston University. Since, I have been saving up and networking myself into opportunities in the field at every possible chance, I am as ready as ever to start rebuilding lives in Bath, NC. I am so lucky to have had the life with Ana's family that were able to fully pay for me and my education growing up.Without money issues I was able to do abroad studies and volunteer work in third world countries like in West Africa and in parts of South America.
My boyfriend, Scott Parker, who was seemingly supportive, was a cheating on me and using me to get to my adopted family. That incident made me almost flunk out of my second year at Columbia, but I picked my self up by the boot straps and focused on school and myself. Ana and Kyle and I would go clubbing, volunteering and on study-binge-sessions. Since that incident, I haven't been ready for a serious commitment up here, but hopefully with a change of scenery I can get back on the horse. Once, I graduated I isolated my self in my tiny apartment with Ana in NYC, NY. It was then I started my business "Us4You Wellness," renting a town storefront from a Mister Arthur James, and bought a plot of land near the water on the edge of town. I told my family the very next family dinner, and they congratulated me, but was disheartened by me moving so far. I reasoned with them that I will always visit, Face-time, and might even expand my business one day.
However, for now, it's the last week of August and I have got a long road trip ahead of me and my new Jeep Wrangler, Clara-Belle.
Looking over at Ana, who now has tears in her eyes, I rush to her and hug her.
"I... Love... You. Call me often!" Ana gets out through her sobs.
"I love you too, and I will call so much that we will be communicating as if I never left. Matter of fact, you will be sick of me just as if I were here by you. I plan on visiting on Thanksgiving, sis. See you soon!" I say in a rush trying to avoid tearing up.
I get into Clara-Belle, take a selfie and post it to my social media expressing my excitement for a new. After, I turn on my playlist for the road trip, starting off with Willie Nelson's "On The Road Again." I sing along and begin my journey away from my past, and to my future.
