I shut my eyes as I took every bite of my Belgian waffle. Every size watered my mouth and it felt like I'm in cloud nine. It’s been a while when I had one. I scanned the area, there were still a few people who’re going shopping. Ellie’s Marketplace is one of my favorite spots to venture. And one thing that I love about this point is that it’s friendly with nature. The owner was able to put a garden inside the marketplace and a big oak tree is at the middle, where people could stay during their leisure time. There were benches around and garbage bins to prevent littering. It was just so cool to look at.
There’s no need to rush things for now. I just want to have a moment with myself and this is opportunity to do so. I finished my treat and I left to their pet section. It was hell a big place to roam around. Different types of dog and cat foods were piled on the shelves and other things. The salesladies were even accommodating today. I grabbed a pack of dogfood and a soap to prevent Molly in getting those ticks again. I went to the cashier, who's smooching her strawberry lollipop and paid them. When I’m finished, I started to the next store which is the Cold and Treats. They were known for their delicious ice cream in a plastic cup with syrups on top. My teeth felt to have some sweet today.
There were many flavors to choose from. The ambiance had made it more pleasing, as those lights with intricate, octopus-like designs gleamed from above. The walls were painted light brown with furniture on the side. Those picture frames that were hanging were even good to see as with their abstractness. Tables and rubber typed chairs were painted into a retro vibe. Only few have explored the place, most of them were just taking their orders out and enjoy it below that tree.
A young man probably the same height with me greeted me. He was wearing his white gloves and a red cap with their logo at the center. His untrimmed bushy eyebrows was the first thing I have recognized at him. His smile was extravagant, that I could clearly see his teeth. I guessed he’s just in his groovy temperament.
“Good morning, Sir! Have you chosen your order?” He asked delightedly.
I pointed the last two – a double dutch and the rocky road. I also picked the toppings which were mallows, nuts and Belgian chocolate. The man cheerfully scooped my order. I paid the price and went to one of the tables and waited patiently.
A woman with her long straight crimson hair was across to me. She was reading her copious book with a cover of a girl running down a cobbled street. It has been some time when I took myself in leisure juncture of reading those stuff – mystery and thriller. It was fun back then, and I could clearly see the same vibe in her long lashed eyes as she flipped those pages. She sipped her soda, not pulling her sight from reading. Her slender body best fit her lacy flushed dress. A red velvet cupcake with white frosting was on her plate, beside her black pen.
She slowly heaved her head and our graze collided. I felt my cheeks flushed as well as hers. She was able to compose herself easily that in a snap, she turned into a profound young woman. She arched one of her flicked eyebrows, closed her book and crossed her arms.
She emptied her throat and affirmed, “I’m clearly not a blind, for me not to see you staring at me. Don’t do that or others will see you as maniac.”
I couldn’t believe what she thought but somehow, her tensed shoulders told me that she doesn’t want be around with a man or a few. Is she a man hater? My ice cream has just arrived on my table. The man thanked me and directly came back to his spot. I scoffed on the thing she was calling me to. I pointed myself. How do I even look like a maniac? Man, even if I could say that she had the looks, I won’t let her slip through my fingers so easily.
I took a fine bite of my ice cream and the sweet coldness watered inside my mouth.
“You’re wrong, Miss.” I said between my munch.
“I don’t mind. I’m used to it.” She replied and eventually opened her book again.
I thought I have much enough time to talk to this stranger, someway I was enjoying her company. “Not all guys are like that. Maybe some just want to be your friends or the other way around, like they’re just looking at your beauty without the intention of harming you, Miss.” I blunted.
She was shocked with how I dealt her presumption, but I was just acting like a cool guy with no worries with her response. She was silent for a while, raising her book a bit to cover her eyes. I didn’t want her to be intimidated. I knew that my usual expression was a serious face. I waited for her to lift her eyes to me again, but I guessed she decided to take her own measures and deal with imagination with her book.
Beside, I don’t mind if someone would hung a conversation with me. It wasn’t even new to me. It was just like how the old things were, especially when I was dealing with those guys back at school, talked about famewhores and supremacy. I should have even kicked their asses for framing me into cheating.
Somehow, the urge to see them again was firing my soul, hoping that the time would come.
I was about to finish my dessert when suddenly, someone stood beside. I searched for the lady that I was talking to a while ago, but she just left. I swiveled myself to the person beside me and saw her grinning like a mad woman.
"I finally uncovered you."
