ELYSE
“I guess, from what happened in the other life, I'll be meeting Alpha Lucas in this ceremony and finding out he is my mate right? Goddess knows how swift I will reject that fucker.” When I had woken up, Ollie had taken her time to explain to me exactly what happened and after a series of questions, I finally believed.
Personally, I just think the moon goddess is so complicated. Why didn't she just let Ollie go into her original body?
At intervals, I even forgot that Athena was Ollie now and everyone was shocked at how I and Athena became friends overnight.
“That purple gown suits you.” Athena commented and I shook my head in negativity.
“I'll like a more fierce color, like black for example.” I pointed to a black ball gown that was littering on the bed and Athena prompted me to try it out.
“Black? How about Red? It would make you stand out in the dark more.” It suited me perfectly and in a few minutes, we were off to the ceremony.
My eyes were fixated on Lucas all night and each time I stared at him, I only felt like stabbing him again and again just like he did to me.
That moment will definitely come!
“I guess now is the time, he's approaching us.” Athena alerted me and I licked my lips nervously while rubbing my wrist together as each step he took seemed to make my entire world spin.
He smiled at me and this time, I feel like since I already knew what he was up to, I could eventually see through his stupid veil to how evil and wicked he is.
“Do I look nervous?” I turned to Athena and she raised a brow, adjusting the shoulders of my outfit.
“Definitely not. You look like you want to kill, straighten your face, he's almost here.” She said through her teeth and I winked before folding my fist together waiting for my big moment.
“Mate.” I heard him say and anger seethed through my chest as I smirked.
“Well, I, Elyse Stormbron re-” I was cut short when I saw him take Athena's hands instead and she looked dumbstruck.
“You're my mate.” He stated dreamily and I stared at the both of them in confusion.
“What's going on? How…” Athena grabbed my hands immediately fidgeting and spun off.
“Mate.” I heard Lucas yell chasing after us but Athena was quick dragging me into a room and shutting the door behind us.
“What just happened?” I blinked and she heaved a long sigh pushing her hair out of her face before staring at me long and hard.
“I should be asking you that, Elyse. How is he my mate? Isn't he supposed to be yours? I thought it was a joke when I got all those weird feelings as he approached but this is real. Your trash is my mate in this life.” She yelled placing her hands on either sides of her head like she was about going crazy.
“Athena, calm down.” I suggested and she stared at me annoyingly.
“Don't tell me to calm down, this is a disaster. What if I'm the one he eventually kills in this life?” She yelled placing up and down the room and I rubbed my wrist together.
I don't know if it was greedy of me to say this but I'm actually glad he didn't get mated to me in this life.
“Well, you can avoid that,” I tilted my head to a side while clicking my fingers together abd she just glared at me, “Don't stare at me like that, you can avoid it for sure by rejecting him now. That's what you would have done, reject him immediately.” I suggested and she just paced along the room when suddenly, the strong scent of mint ice filled the room up almost like I would get choked in it.
“This room smells kind of… i can't exactly tell. Let's leave.” I pulled her arms and she dragged me backwards.
“Leave? Oh no, we're not doing that! You don't expect me to go back out there, no boo we are not going to do that.” I raised a brow, using a finger to place underneath my nostrils.
“Well, if we don't go out there, how are you even going to reject him?” I persuaded but she refused, stamping her foot.
“What if he doesn't intend to kill me in this life? What if I reject him and never get mated with anyone?” She bawled and i must say, the latter was what she was definitely concerned about.
She was a hopeless romantic that had fantasized about living with her mate happily forever yet the moon goddess just wasn't good at playing fair.
“Nope. Gosh, this is so complicated. I hate complications!” Athena snapped, throwing her hands in the air. Her frustration echoed in the small space, and I exhaled deeply, trying to keep my own nerves in check.
“Wait.” I froze, tilting my head and sniffing the air. “Do you smell that?”
Athena stopped mid-rant, looking at me with furrowed brows. “Smell what?”
“It’s… odd.” I sniffed again, the scent growing stronger. “Dry mint… and something metallic, like rust.” My pulse quickened, and my senses sharpened as a chill crept up my spine.
“I don’t smell anything,” Athena whispered, stepping closer to me, her usual bravado melting into unease.
“Hello there, you two.” A voice, smooth as velvet but laced with danger, cutting through the silence like a blade.
Athena gasped and, in an instant, darted behind me, her trembling hands clutching my arm.
“Who are—” I began, but my words caught in my throat.
My heart stuttered as the person stepped forward revealing himself to be the Lycan king, the Alpha of all Alpha's and instincts screamed both danger and something… deeper.
How the hell did he even get in here?
“Mate.”
The word escaped my lips like a prayer and a curse, my chest tightening with an emotion I couldn’t name.
Athena’s grip tightened. “What did you just say?” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding in my ears.
“In this life…” I turned to face Athena who gripped my hands slowly, “I'm mated to the lycan king.” She placed her hands over her mouth in shock as I held on to her, unwilling to accept this.
None of us knew the Lycan king was this young anyways and moreover, no one would believe that he attended this kind of events. Well practically because no one had ever seen him present but seeing him away from the ceremony explains it.
“If I'll ask, what do you mean ‘in this life’?” He questioned and my breath hitched.
Why was the moon goddess given me the worst choices ever?
What was going through her sick head to Mate ne with the Lycan king?
“I, Elyse—” He stepped closer, making my hands get stuck in my throat as he shot me a hard glower.
“I dare you to finish that sentence.” I bit the insides of my tongue and my oh my, this is my turn to run. I bolted for the door pulling Athena with me only to find Lycan King Kai leaning on the door frame with ease.
He was just…behind us. How?
“Oh, this is going to be… fun.” Lycan Prince Kai said with a smirk and I could feel my world trembling down at my feet.
