chapter 1
Rose shifted the strap of her duffel bag,as she stood outside the house her aunt her arranged for her.The house looked isolated, almost forgotten . The Air in the town felt different than the city,it was quiet and peaceful ,she cold even hear the chirping of the birds perfectly. Before she could enter the house her phone rang, it's ringing was loud and disturbing against the absolute quiet of the town. "Hello Aunt Mira"Rose Said pressing the phone to her ear ,her shoulders relaxing a bit when she heard her aunt's voice. Rose "hope you arrived safely"? yes aunt I just got here, rose replied glancing at the isolated house. This place is quiet, really quiet, there was a long pause on the line, Rose checked to see if the call had ended."Rose her aunt finally said, her voice dropping lower, don't stray to far from the house okay"?. I won't ,Rose promised wandering why she was asked not to go too far from the house.she wanted to ask more but the call had already ended. The house was a two bedroom apartment, with old but sturdy furnitures.she walked up the stairs and decided to take the room with the window facing the forest.she dropped her heavy bag on to the mattress and laid down for a nap. By late afternoon, she had unpacked most of her things, neatly organizing her clothes and books. Her stomach let out a quiet rumble, but a quick check of the kitchen revealed a problem, the fridge was completely empty. Grabbing her jacket and her bag, she stepped out to buy groceries from the local market.
The small grocery store in the center of the town was busier than she expected, the moment she stepped into the store, conversations dropped a bit,the towns people started to whisper. A few people turned their heads to look directly at her, their eyes wide with a strange confusion and curiosity, then thy quickly looked away the moment she made eye contact. Rose slowed her pace, she turned to look around,Do I have something on my face? She whispered to herself, glancing at her reflection at the glass of a freezer freezer Door.
No one answered, the silence in the store stretched longer than it should have. Rose frowned a bit,she moved towards the shelves trying to brush it off as hallucinations.maybe she was imagining things, letting her aunt warning get to her head. Behind the counter the shop keeper glanced towards her,his eyes following her movements as she picked up a basket, before quickly looking away the moment she looked up.
Rose reached for her shopping basket, she tried to shake off the unease of being watched,as she reached into a cooler and grabbed a carton of milk, she noticed the shop keeper approaching her. He cleared his throat loudly, breaking the silence. you're new in town aren't you? he asked his gaze firm, voice cautious. Rose looked up forcing a polite smile, yes I just moved in today. I'm staying at my aunt's house. Might I ask who this aunt of yours is? Mira Daniel,Rose replied.the shop keeper gave an understanding nod,the tension in his shoulder relaxing at the mention of the name, his gaze lingering a moment longer Rose held her shopping basket closer to her,is something wrong? she asked. this time her voice softer and entirely serious. The shop keeper leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a whisper just listen to your aunt girl,in this town that's enough to keep you alive.
Alright, she said quietly her heart pounding in her chest, she turned towards the exit eager to get to the quiet safety of her house, away from the weirdness of the town. But the moment she stepped forward, the entire atmosphere changed.the hushed whispering stopped instantly. The door swung open, then heavy rhythmic footsteps entered the store.they were calm, unhurried and utterly in control of everything. The entire store froze. No one spoke a word . even the shop keeper immediately avoided looking up , staring intently at the counter like some precious treasure. Rose shifted slightly to the side, her mind noting the collective panic of the room.she made space by the aisle trying to stay invisible.
He walked in like he owned the place,he wore a leather jacket, his posture steady, his shoulders broad and unyielding. And then the shop keeper whispered in a panic Alpha Ace, that made the silence in the room more suffocating.
Rose frowned a bit she did not understand why one man mattered so much to these people. He moved with a cold detached arrogance as if he did not care who or what was around him. His eyes passed over her once , a causal scan of the room. Then Ace spoke His voice low, incredibly deep ,and controlled "who is she".? The shop keeper swallowed hard, his voice shaking as he answered from behind the counter. She is Mira's niece, Alpha. She just arrived in town today.
Ace didn't respond immediately, the silence in the grocery store was thick heavy and suffocating.it made rose feel uncomfortable. He took a step closer to her,up close an intoxicating scent washed over her senses,he smelled like deep forest, fresh rain and something sharp. Her pulse began to flutter violently, his dark golden ringed eyes seemed to stare at her, noticing the rapid rise and fall of her chest.
Mira's niece,Ace repeated the words under his breath. He titled his head slightly, his eyes searching hers with intensity that made her want to run out of there. Then without warning Ace turned,he moved past her,his shoulder brushing her jacket as he went deeper into the aisles.it was as if she didn't matter.
Rose finally released a long shaky breath, her knees feeling weak from the pressure.she realised that she had been holding her breath the entire time he was there. What was that she mattered under her breath, her mind disoriented from the interactions. As she quickly paid and stepped out of the store still wandering what just happened. What she didn't realise as she hurried to leave was a pair of dark golden ringed eyes from inside the shop window watching her. They were fixed on her retreating form, watching her leave, not curious.not confused.just watching his territory.
