The First Chapter
The day starts with the school bell. It rings readily, signaling the end of passing period. This is my first day at Neanoma High, a school for witches. It's an all girl school, supposedly less distractions. My name is Kaitlyn Meori, part of the Meori noble household. I am expected to be a leader, to be the best. And I will be.
I'm sitting in potions class when it happens. The teacher hasn't arrived yet. My first introduction to the current most popular girls in school was Danniel Anast's hand slamming onto the table in front of me. I don't even acknowledge her. "Hey. New girl. Meori, right?"
I look up and stare her directly in the eyes. "And your name is Anast." It was a statement. Her hair was brown, soft looking, her skin pale. Her eyes were a scorching ember. Not like me. My skin is dark, like mocha with a pinch of chocolate. My hair is black, and eyes a piercing obsidian. Her nose was scrunched up as she looked at me with disgust.
Danniel grabbed me by the collar and pulled me to my feet. "You dare show disrespect? Do you realize who I am?" her eyes burned furiously. I grin. "You are a wanna be from a household below mine. Someone who would be a servant in my home rather than an equal. Unimportant."
Her fury flowed over and she started to summon magic in her palm. "Ms. Anast! release her!" Mr. Swill boomed. Amplification magic. Danniel jumped, dropping me instantly. "Mr. Swill! She was insulting my family, I had to defend it!" The look on Mr. Swill's little round face showed that he couldn't care less. "Office. Now," he spoke with sincere authority, no longer amplifying his voice.
Danniel huffed and stomped away. I didn't smile, grin, react. I knew it would lower the respect from those around me. I sat back in my seat, ready for class to begin. I know I'll have more interactions like that. I just have to be ready for them.

As lunch time rolls around I begin to feel more at home in this place. I may not have gained any friends, but I didn't have time for that. I must excel. Friends are just gossip and distractions.
I step into line for food and let my mind wander. I planned out the rest of my day, knowing how important it was to get organized as soon as possible. So far the only disruption in any of my classes is Danniel, in my potions class. I collect a tray and a milk from the cart and continue walking with the line.
As I continue, I notice a couple of girls looking at the line, around where I am. The end of the line was at least six people behind me. One of the girls was a lanky blonde with brown eyes, the second a small, round redhead with grey eyes.
They walk towards me now, not looking me in the eyes. They were planning to cut me in line. Sure enough they try to shoulder their way in front of me. I grab their shoulders loosely, as to not get in trouble if I'm caught. "Not happening," I state, pulling back on their shoulders so I have a clear path in front of them. One of them scoff and the other starts to protest. Until I give them a small shock from each of my fingertips.
They both gasp, exasperated. Neither of them had expected me to do anything like that. "Hey!" the blonde was the first to speak. "That was mean! Now you have to give up your spot in line. It's only fair!" I give her a deadpan expression. "Fair is my shocking you, rather than catching your pretty lock of hair on fire. Back of the line." Her face went from pasty to red. I saw out of the corner of my eye the redhead tug her friends sleeve. "Let's just go to the back, I don't want to mess with this. She's a noble," the redhead whispered.
Redhead had a point. It was obvious from my eyes. Only nobles have extraordinary eye colors. Eyes out of the ordinary are a sign of nobility, of strength, power, grace.
Blondey and Redhead take another look at me before backing out of line. After they dissapeared I turned back and collected my food. I was already being recognized for what I am. It wont be long before I have control over the entire school. It wont take much effort. As soon as girls on the top of the hierarchy hear my name they will be coming to me. They will challenge me. I will humiliate them. I'll be recognized as the best.
