Chapter Ten:
I grumbled as I fumbled with my phone. I had no idea what to do today. I am currently being a coach potato, trying to think of something productive to do. I don't have a job and my boyfriend has work. Great.
Boyfriend. I smiled. I liked the idea of Brendan being my boyfriend. Our story was so cliché, the guy being the arrogant boss and I was the girl who couldn't stand him, but stuck to his side for a while. Cliché.
I sat up straight and felt dizzy instantly, falling back on the couch. I groaned. "Why?" I yelled out to no one in particular.
My phone rang, startling me. Brendan.
"Hey, what's up?" I answered.
"Hey, babe," He purred. I smiled. "Just office work - the usual. What about you?"
"Absolutely nothing," I groaned.
He chuckled. "I miss you," His tone softened.
I grinned like a child getting that huge lollipop they wanted. "I miss you, too."
"I'll tell you what, I'll get out in about half an hour because I seriously cannot take this crap anymore," He chuckled, "I'll take you out to dinner."
I shook my head even though he couldn't see me. "No, I don't want you to leave early just because of me." Though that dinner and seeing you sounds nice.
Laughter boomed my ears. "Oh, babe, I'm the boss," He said in the most sexiest way that I didn't even know could ever exist.
I gulped. Images of dirty things in his office with just him and myself flashed through my mind.
"I - "
"Yes?" He purred.
Was he trying to seduce me?
"I think..."
"Hmm?"
Two people can play at this game.
I smiled, confidence oozing it's way in my system. I looked at the wall clock. 3 o'clock. "Pick me up at 5. Don't be late."
"Why so late?" He whined.
I smirked. "Do you not know that a lady needs time to get ready?"
Silence. "I shall see you then," He said eagerly.
"Bye, Mr. Johnson," I said seductively.
He was lost for words. I tried my best not to stifle a laugh.
"Bye, babe."
He hung up and I couldn't stop laughing. This game was going to be fun. I wasn't going to let him win. I'm determined to win this thing.
~
I wore a black halter dress that lands just above my knees. It sure showed my curves. There are beads from the breast to the strap just around my neck. I tied my hair up in a sleek ponytail. I didn't have any make-up on. Just lipgloss. I grabbed my black trench coat from the wardrobe as well as my black wedges and clutch bag. Tonight is all about fun.
I heard someone knock on the door and I grinned devilishly. I put on my shoes and wrapped my trench coat around my arm, showing off my dress.
I opened the door and there he was in his normal working attire - in his suit. It was black and his dress up shirt was in white. I realized he wasn't wearing a tie and his dress up shirt buttons at the top were undone. His face, however, was the most interesting of all. His blue eyes were filled with hunger and lust. Also, I see adoration and possession.
"Hello, Mr. Johnson," I said seductively.
He groaned. "You're going to be the death of me tonight," I heard him mutter. I think he wasn't supposed to let me hear that.
I was winning so far.
He leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. "You look beautiful, babe."
I smiled. "Thank you. You don't look bad yourself."
I put on my coat and he just watched me. I tried to move sexily and I hear his breath getting ragged. I accidentally looked down and saw his hard-on. I didn't know I was doing this to him. I smiled.
"Let's go?" I offered.
He nodded, letting me wrap my arm around his. I closed and locked the door behind us.
~
We were in a fancy restaurant. Surprisingly, I thought I was going to be the only person wearing a dress like mine but I guess I was wrong. Some ladies looked decent. Some ladies looked like a dirty skank. I must say, I was just in between.
A waiter lead us to our table. I noticed that nearly the female population in this restaurant were gawking at Brendan, giving him flirty winks and smiles. I looked up at Brendan who tried to put on a serious face. I rolled my eyes. Egotistical bastard.
We reached our table and Brendan, being a gentleman that he is, helped me sit down on my chair by pulling it out and pushing it behind me.
"Thank you," I murmured.
He sat opposite me.
A single rose in a small vase is placed in the center of the table. On each side of the vase are two lit lavender scented candles. The room was dim and the candles were mostly the source of light.
I smiled, looking into his ocean blue eyes.
"How are you?" He asked.
I thought about it. How was I? I cleared my throat. "I'm coping," I said honestly.
I'm glad I never used up all of my savings from my bank account or else I wouldn't have been coping.
"Come back," He whispered.
I looked at him quizzically. "Come back where?"
"Come and work for me," He announced.
I was taken back. I couldn't. What would other people think about our relationship? I am the secretary and he's the boss. What would people think about that? That would be totally unprofessional.
I sighed and looked down. "I can't."
"Why?"
The waiter came with the menus. "Here are your menus, sir and ma'am. Please signal us if you wish to order," He said.
"Thank you."
I turned back my attention to Brendan who looked confused like a little monkey.
"Why can't you come back to work with me?" He asked desperately.
I sighed. "What would people think?"
He was still confused. "About what?"
"About our relationship?" I quietly hissed.
"I don't follow," Brendan said honestly.
I bit my bottom lip. I saw Brendan instantly look at it for a split second then back to my eyes. "It doesn't seem professional if people find out about our relationship."
He chuckled and leaned in forward. "You actually care about what people think?"
I leaned back into my chair and looked away from him. "I don't want to be known as the slut," I mumbled.
"Then I'll fire them," He said without a second thought.
I hastily looked at him and gasped. "You wouldn't," I stated.
He smirked. "I would."
I searched his eyes. He wasn't lying. He would do it if people did think anything bad of me in the office.
"You won't be my secretary anyway," He announced.
I choked on my own spit. "I'm sorry, what?"
"You'll be working as the co-executive of J.M.I., alongside with me."
I looked at him dumbfounded, my mouth hanging open. Brendan closed it for me.
"What happened to Rey?" I asked.
Rey was the co-executive of J.M.I. or former co-executive. He was an old bald guy but besides that, he was nice and caring. Nothing like you would ever imagine.
"Rey retired 3 days ago," He answered nonchalantly.
I thought about it. Josh. "What about Josh?"
He sighed. "Josh has no interest in the company, whatsoever. Truth be told, I never did too. But when you came into the industry, I had a reason to always come to work."
I blushed. Smoothe. Real smoothe.
"Stop it," I said, biting my lip.
He shrugged, looking at my lips. "Honesty is the best policy, babe."
I just rolled my eyes and looked for a meal on the menu. I had to stay my cool.
"Are you ready to order?" The waiter asked.
I nodded and said my order. He also ordered.
"Champagne?" Brendan asked.
I nodded. "Yes, please."
"Thanks, that's all," Brendan said.
The waiter took our menus. I just stared at Brendan, intrigued that he was being so nice. I like this Brendan.
"A picture lasts longer," He said cockily.
"Do you want one?" I smirked.
He raised his eyebrow. "Huh. Is that offer still open?"
I smirked. I took of my trench coat and placed it on the frame of the chair that I'm sitting on. I leaned forward and placed my elbows on the table, showing off a bit of my cleavage.
"When do you want it?" I purred.
He cleared his throat, trying his best not to look at my cleavage. "I - I don't know."
I tried to squeeze my chest together with my arms and just sat there, pretending to look at the art pieces of fountains and angels on the wall.
I heard him groan. I bit my lip. I felt him lean in.
"Whatever game you're playing, you're winning," He whispered in a husky tone. "I'm dying here," He pleaded.
I tried to look as innocent as possible and leaned in more, our faces only centimeters away from each other. "What are you talking about, Mr. Johnson?"
He grunted and pulled away, sitting down defeatedly on his chair.
I chuckled lightly and relaxed on my chair. Tonight was definitely going to be a fun night.
