Chapter 1- BROKEN HEARTS
KING THEODORE LANCASTER “Avery, I forbid you to see Prince Warren. He is a dangerous man like his brother, King Jeremy Rickhardt,” I said with a stern voice, “you are the only blood-family I have left, you’re my sister and I refuse to let you go near him.” “Have you ever considered getting to know him!? He is so kind to me, brother. Why can’t you understand that he will never hurt me?” She tried holding back her tears, but it came rushing down from her eyes. She ran out of the throne room, up the stairs to her room and slammed her door shut. Suddenly . . . all was quiet. As much as it pains me to see my sister hurt, I could never let her near any of the Rickhardt’s. There is a reason why they rule The Woodland Kingdom. They are vicious to their people such as their forest is vicious to us. She must understand sacrifices must be made to protect our land and our people. One slip and everything could crumble right before our eyes. Minutes past and I sat on the throne contemplating whether I should confront Prince Warren to leave Avery alone or threaten his brother, the King. Unexpectedly, I hear footsteps walking towards the throne room and a smile forms on my face. The door opens and my two beautiful daughters run up to give me a hug. Right behind them is my wonderful queen, Queen Charlotte. I stared at her in awe. She was beautiful; Golden-Sunkissed hair that flowed past her shoulder, green-emerald eyes, and a porcelain skin tone that seemed untouched. She looked up and now we both were just staring at each other. The longer I stared at her the more I realized I was scared to lose her as I am with Princess Avery.   QUEEN CHARLOTTE LANCASTER I walked into the throne room with my two daughters’ ahead of me. They ran to their father and I stood by watching, wondering how I got so lucky. He is a man of patience and no matter what the circumstances are, he rises to show others he still stays strong. I looked up and we both locked eyes with each other. I felt my cheeks become warm and turning peach with sweetness. “Is there anything I could do for you at the moment, my king?” I said with such a light heart. He broke eye contact with me and stared off into the flags hanging from the dark-stoned ceiling, “All these years I’ve worked so hard to keep my family safe, if I were to lose one person so dear to me, I could never forgive myself.” “Mabel?!” one of my finest lady-in-waiting, rushed in and nodded her head, “Please take Caroline and Clara out for some fresh air, and I’ll be right out with them.” She called them over and all three of them walked out with the door slammed shut behind them. “My King, there is only so much you can do and only so much you can say,” I walked up the steps to be near him on his throne and sat on the right arm of his chair. I leaned my head on top of his head and wrapped my arms around his shoulder, “Soon, Princess Avery will come to her senses and you will no longer have to worry.”   I planted a kiss on his forehead and stepped down from the throne and walked myself out. I walked out to the garden to where Mabel and my two girls were. I also spotted Oliver playing with them. My husband and I had always treated Oliver like he was our own child. His father, Sir George Thompson, is a great friend of my husband, in fact he is my husband’s personal bodyguard when they are traveling outside of the kingdom. I spotted George walking through the garden by himself and suddenly, felt some pain for him. His eyes no longer smile like it used to when his wife, Lady Anne, was still alive. He was such a happy man when she was still here. “Oh Mable, can you please fetch us some tea?” Mabel nodded and she went straight inside. She is such a fast pace worker, which is why she is my favorite.   KING THEODORE LANCASTER I decided to join my wife and kids out in the garden. It is such a beautiful day. Some time, in the afternoon the sun gleams onto the pavements in the garden and it seems as if the pavements are being tickled by tiny iridescent-rainbow lights. It is so fascinating to know what nature can do. “Darling, please come sit, Mabel brought us fresh tea,” my wife called to me, ”and please offer some tea to George, him looking sad is making want to BE sad.” I chuckled and called George over for a cup of tea. As he was walking towards us, you can still see how heartbroken he is after losing Lady Anne. “George, I want you know that we will always be here for you and your son,” his face lit up and he mouthed a “thank you” to me. We clinked our tea’s together and enjoyed a small celebration of happiness.     SIR GEORGE THOMPSON My heart still aches for my love, Lady Anne, and I cannot hide the fact that I am still heartbroken over her illness. I wish she were here to see how happy Oliver is right now. Lady Anne was always mentioning my smile brightening up her day, I wish she could see what Oliver’s smile can do to many of us. As King Theodore was making his short speech, I have realized that the King and Queen has given me their full trust and I will always be internally grateful for what they will provide for me and my son. “Thank you,” as I mouthed to him. We carried on the rest of the afternoon with nothing but laughter.   PRINCESS AVERY LANCASTER I could not get myself to stop crying. My own brother, the King, is willing to stop me from being with my true love. I do not care if others see him as a threat or even vicious. He has treated me with respect, and I know, Prince Warren, would never hurt me. I must see him again, without anybody knowing. I must leave the castle somehow and hope that the guards do not see me. I must be smart this time and then maybe the Prince and I could finally runaway together.
