Adrian's POV She slept like someone who had forgotten how. She slept the way people slept when their body finally overruled every other instinct and simply shut down without asking permission. Adrian had been watching her breathing for the better part of two hours. Caelan left at midmorning to confirm the northern route and verify Rael's position. His two guards remained at the shelter entrance, rotating quietly every hour. The neutral forest outside moved through its ordinary morning sounds around an entirely unordinary situation.
