CHAPTER 4: Kael is Coming

ELIRA POV I couldn’t stop shaking. The moment the warrior mentioned the Blackthorn Pack, every bit of warmth left my body. I gripped the blanket harder while Adrian dismissed the warrior with a nod. The door closed. “He can’t find me,” I whispered. Adrian turned toward me slowly. “Who?” I stared at him. He already knew the answer. “Kael?” he said. “The Blackthorn Alpha is your mate,is he not?” Adrian said. “I don’t want to talk about him.” I said. “Did he hurt you?” he asked. My throat tightened from the memory of kneeling before the entire pack while Kael rejected me and still lived inside my chest like a knife. My eyes burned painfully, but Adrian saw the answer anyway. “He rejected you.” “I said I don’t want to talk about it.” I thundered. Adrian remained silent “I won’t force you.” Adrian walked toward the fireplace. “You can stay here until you recover.” he said “No.” I said He glanced back at me. “what do you mean,No?” Adrian said. “If Kael learns I’m here, there’ll be trouble for your territory.” “That’s my problem.” Adrian said. “You don’t understand him,he is ruthless,he….” I stopped. Adrian’s expression sharpened. “Then help me understand.” How could I explain Kael Draven to someone else? How could I explain the way fear entered every room before he did? The way pack members lowered their eyes when he walked past? The way his voice alone could make powerful wolves tremble? Kael ruled through fear and he was good at it. “He doesn’t lose things that belong to him,” I whispered. “You’re not property.” he said. I almost laughed, that was easy for powerful people to say. “You don’t know about the Blackthorn Pack.” “No,” Adrian said “But I know men like Kael.” I looked down at my hands. “You shouldn’t involve yourself.” I said. “And if I choose to?” he said coldly. Why would he care? I was nobody. Just a weak rejected omega carrying an Alpha’s child. “Elira.” he called. I looked up reluctantly. “You’re safe here,” he said. Part of me wanted to believe him. But every time I relaxed, fear returned. Kael would come,I knew he would. _________________________ Kael stood inside his office staring at the map spread across the large table. Every possible place Elira could’ve gone. Lucien stood nearby. “She can’t survive long alone,” the Beta,Lucien said “You keep saying that.” Kael said. “Because it’s true.” Kael finally looked up. His icy blue eyes were cold enough to freeze blood. “She’s an omega.” Lucien said. “She’s survived things that would break most wolves.” Kael said. Kael looked back down at the map. His hand tightened slightly against the table. He remembered the look in Elira’s eyes during the banquet. A warrior suddenly entered the office quickly. “Alpha.” Kael didn’t look up. “What.” he said “We tracked her scent to the northern river.” “The current carried it toward Nightfall territory.” “Adrian Nightfall,” Kael murmured. Kael’s jaw tightened. Of all territories,Nightfall was the worst possibility and Adrian himself was a problem. “Prepare the car.” Lucien blinked. “You’re going personally?” Kael grabbed his coat without hesitation. “Yes,” he replied. “You think Adrian took her?” Lucien said. Kael walked toward the door before stopping suddenly. “Did the healer say anything else?” kael asked. Lucien’s eyes narrowed, Mira had reported the strange storm but there was something she avoided discussing fully. Something about Elira herself. “No,” Lucien answered. Kael stared at him for a second too long like he knew he wasn’t getting the full truth. “Find out what she’s hiding.” Kael said. ELIRA POV I woke suddenly from the nightmare. My siblings called my name,I grabbed my chest painfully. A soft knock interrupted my panic. “Elira?” Adrian knocked. I wiped my face quickly. The door opened. Adrian stepped inside holding a tray of food. His golden eyes immediately found my tear-stained face. Adrian placed the tray down carefully before sitting with me. “What happened to you, Elira?” A tear slid down my cheek before I could stop it. At that exact moment,a loud explosion echoed outside the territory walls. Adrian stood immediately and his entire expression changed. Another warrior burst through the door. “My prince,Blackthorn wolves, just crossed the border.”
