Chapter 5- Flowers

1750 Words
“El?” I had just woken up and was stretching my limbs when I heard knocks on my bedroom door. I forgot to close the curtains last night that the brightness from the outside stirred me up from my peaceful slumber. “Yes? Come in!” I loudly said. The door opened wide, “Elisha, my child!” It was Nana Delia. “Good morning,” she smilingly greeted me. I was about to greet her back, but my brows furrowed instead. I saw her holding a bouquet of roses while frantically walking toward me after closing the door. “Good morning, Nana,” “El, another flower for you,” Nana smilingly said to me. “Oh,” I mumbled, still figuring out what was happening. My mind was still muddled from my deep sleep. “Flowers,” “Yes, El…” I yawned and stretched my arms once more. “From who?” I puckered. “Well, from a secret admirer, I guess,” The lovely lady arched her brow while looking at me. I inhaled deeply, “Oh…yeah…” recollecting the flowers that I had been receiving these past few days. “Kyle….” I whispered under my breath. “Ryle?” I heard Nana ask. I shook my head. “No…. Nothing, Nana…” I cringed. “Is that a high school friend?” She nosily asked me again. “No,” “Oh, then who?” I smiled. “No, Nana. That’s the guy who wrecked Tom’s car,” I answered her questions. “Oh…That’s him? Why is he giving you flowers?” Nana asked once more. I shrugged my shoulders and touched my forehead. “Maybe he’s guilty because of this,” I chucklingly said. Nana smiled while shaking her head. “Maybe,” she snorted, standing up and leaving the flowers on my lap. “Anyway, mi hija. I know you are old enough to handle yourself,” she sighed, “You are smart. I know you will prioritize your future over this sweet guy who’s been giving you these expensive flowers,” she winked at me. “I know, Nana….” I smiled. “Lovely. Now go! You mentioned last night you were meeting Sophie again for coffee,” Nana Delia said. I was taken aback. Nana was right. I have a coffee date but not with Sophie. “Y…yes…yes….” I nodded, checking the time at the bedside table. It was already seven in the morning. Still early for my nine in the morning coffee and perhaps breakfast with Kyle. “Oh, you mentioned that your car is ready today. I’ll tell Ferdi to send you to your favorite place again, yes?” “Yes, Nana… please… thank you….” I smiled, glancing at my phone sitting next to me. I saw a couple of notifications on the screen. “See you, El,” Nana bade, leaving me alone. I quickly took my phone and started reading messages. There were a couple from Sophie and Kyle. I opened Sophie’s first. She just greeted me good morning and sent good luck messages for my morning errand today. ‘Thanks, girl xx,’ I simply replied before checking Kyle’s messages. My eyes gaped wide after seeing a gorgeous photo of him smiling while holding the same bouquet resting on my lap. ‘Fresh flowers for you. I hope you like them. xx’ I didn’t know what I felt after reading his messages. All I knew was my body warmed, and my skin shivered in delight. I felt tense and nervous but, at the same time, happy from his sweet gestures. I cupped my cheeks and giggled. Such a strange feeling, to say the least. “Damn… Skylar…” I mumbled before sending him a quick reply. ‘Thanks. I love them’ It was subtle and didn’t show my real emotions. Looking at my phone once more, I saw the moving three dots on the screen. It meant that he was online and typing messages. ‘Sweet. Xx see you in a while!’ I couldn’t help but smile once more after reading his message. It sounded like he was excited to see me. “Guess what, Skylar? I am too,” I gigglingly said on my phone. We had only met four days ago, but the amount of gladness and excitement in my body was already full. I knew I got to be careful like what Sophie advised, and that’s what I had been doing through my messages. My replies were refined though my feelings weren’t. After setting the flowers on the vase, I quickly went inside my bathroom to freshen up. I still have about two hours to go before our meet-up. “Dang, Elisha…” I told myself while staring at my reflection in the mirror. I was wearing the short green floral sundress Sophie gifted to me. I let my long auburn hair be half-up, half-down style, putting a silver flower pin to hold them together. Instead of wearing sandals with heels, I used my white flat shoes to match my dress. I was aware that Kyle was over six-foot-high, and I’d probably tire myself looking and bending my neck to meet his gaze, but I couldn't care less. “How was it?!” I heard a voice startling me. “Oopps… great!” I forgot that Sophie was on the other line, video chatting with me. “ “Let me see, girl,” “Sure,” I smiled, adjusting the camera to let Sophie see my outfit of the day. “What you say? Yay or nay?” I asked, twirling around to show her my simple dress. Sophie chuckled. “Slay! Slaayyy, girl. Me like it,” she giggled, “Arent you really changing your mind about your shoes, are you? That’s too flat!” she complained. “Nope… I’m comfortable with this one,” I firmly said, looking at my flat white shoes. “Fine! But don’t blame me if you’d suffer stiff neck, you hardheaded girl,” Sophie snorted. “Whatever, it’s only a coffee date,” I rolled my eyes before sitting on my vanity to put my makeup on. I wanted a simple one. I got a bit of lipstick, mascara, eyeliner, and a little bronzer for my pale skin. “Yup, but be ready tomorrow! I want you to wear heels and a sexy dress! Sawyer has already booked us for your birthday party!” I ceased fixing my brows. “What?! What party?” I puzzlingly asked, looking at Sophie on my screen. I had no idea what she was telling me. “I mean the club his girlfriend is working at. He has already reserved a place for us for your birthday! Come on, El!” “No way, Sophia! I told you, I just want a simple celebration!” I whined. “Nope, it's your nineteenth birthday, plus we need to celebrate your freedom! Today is your last day in that prison, hell or whatever you call that place,” Sophie was somehow true about it. Not a prison, though, but I can’t describe this place enough. The only good thing I had here was my dad’s memories, my brothers, and the people who took care of me. “Fine! I don’t know anything about New Jersey, but I trust you, girl,” I huffed before fixing my face. Half an hour later, I was already done and set to go. I sent a selfie photo to Sophie before leaving my bedroom. I sighed in relief as soon as I saw the hallway was empty. Mom would probably ask me where I would go. I silently and carefully walked down the stairs when I heard Scarlett call my name. “Elisha!” I turned around and looked at her. “Yes?” “Bring me my breakfast!” “I’ll let them know,” I simply answered, walking away. “No! Bring it to me! Now!” Satan’s mistress said once more. I didn’t stop. Instead, I gave her a side-eye before going down the stairs. I headed to the kitchen and politely asked the people to provide what the monster lady demanded. After talking with them, I walked to the servant’s quarters area where I knew Nana Delia was staying. “My sweet girl, you are so pretty!” Nana smiled at me. “Thank you,” “Well, I doubt it's Sophie you are meeting today….” Nana nosily said, “You are always on jeans and a sweatshirt with her, but this…” narrowing her eyes at me, “hmmm….” “Nana… stop….” I pursed my lips. I knew I was blushing. “Whatever. Mi hija,” Nana held and squeezed my hand, “I can’t believe my little girl is dating now….” “No, Nana!” I denied. “Just a coffee with him, and I will also pick up Tom’s car,” I revealed. “I know… I know…” “Nana…” I noticed Nana sadly smile. “Anyway. I need to accept that I won't see you often starting tomorrow. Go, my child. Enjoy your coffee with Mr. Him,” She teasingly said before hugging me. “Nana… I’ll visit you often…don’t worry…okay?” I mumbled, hugging and rubbing her back. “Just kidding you! Go, I already told Ferdi. The car is in the garage. I asked him to stay and wait for you. Your evil mom has just arrived home, and Satan’s mistress is now awake,” Nana stated. “Thanks, Nana… see you later,” I said before sneaking back to the garage. “Hi, Ferdi!” I waved my hand. Fedi just nodded and smiled while opening the car door for me. He quickly sat on his seat and started the car’s ignition. “Elisha, hide….” Ferdi instructed. I already knew what he meant. We had done this before, so I bent over and hid my body in the backseat as Ferdi drove away. A few minutes later, he told me it was safe to sit now. “Damn… one more day, Ferdi….” I huffed. “I know. We will miss you, but yes, El. You are safer and better outside the mansion,” Ferdi sneered, “Just don’t forget to call or visit us often, okay?” “Yes, Ferdi… will never ever forget you,” I sincerely promised the old man. xx
