Fated Mates?

Helen's P.O.V.         My mind was racing as he dragged me down a long hallway. I was trying to control my breathing, fear coursing through my veins. What was he going to say? What was he going to do? I could feel that his wolf was just beneath the surface, but the look on his face gave no hint as to what he was thinking.         Was he happy? Angry? His aura was one of the strongest I had ever felt before and my wolf was whimpering. As I tried to calm down, I realized that she wasn't as fearful as I was. He finally dragged me into a large bedroom, released my hand and stood with his back to me.         His back was tense and I heard the faint rumble of a growl. I shuffled restlessly on my feet, unsure what to say. After a few minutes, I let out a small sigh, quietly clearing my throat.         "It's okay, if you're going to reject me, just do it. I've waited almost 300 years for this, so lets not prolong the inevitable." I said softly.         Before I could blink, he whirled around and grabbed my shoulders. His eyes were glowing, his breathes shallow. His grip was firm, but not tight, his face just a few inches from mine.         I held my breath, waiting for what he would say, pulling the walls that I had learned to build around my heart. I wouldn't let this destroy me. 280 years of solidarity had taught me that no matter what, I would be able to pull through on my own. I had my new family, Fredrick, Amelia, and Sybil. Sure it wasn't the same as having a pack, but I had come to think of them as my own pack.         Even as a lone rogue, they had accepted me. They didn't care that I had been exiled from my pack for refusing an order from my former alpha. They loved me for me, never asking me to do anything that I wasn't comfortable with.         I was brought back to the present when he let out a small sigh, his warm breath fanning over my face. His eyes were still glowing brightly, but he seemed to have calmed his inner wolf, as he searched my face for some sort of answer.         I found myself holding my breath, waiting to see what he would do when he found the answer to whatever he was looking for. A low rumble emerged from his chest, and he slowly brought his lips to mine. The breath I was holding came out in a soft sigh when his lips met mine, my hands tangling in his hair.         His smell, fresh cut grass and sweet tea, filled my nose as his lips ate hungrily at mine. A small moan escaped as he nipped lightly at my bottom lip before soothing the sting with his tongue. I opened my mouth with a whimper, his tongue invading my mouth, leaving me breathless.         After what seemed like an eternity, he pulled away to rest his forehead against mine, out shallow breaths mingling between us. I finally opened my eyes to look at him, almost afraid at what I would see there.         His glowing eyes met mine, seeming to search my soul before he said anything. I held my breath, bracing for the the heartache that I was sure would follow.         "What is your name?" he asked.         "H-Helen. Helen MacRieve." I whispered.         A smile went over his face before I looked down. I knew that he needed my name to complete the rejection. In order for a rejection to take place between Were's, they had to say there name, position and pack followed by your name stating that you were being rejected as their mate. And then the reject had to accept the rejection.         I had seen it done only 3 times in my long life. Each was heartbreaking to witness. Those who had been rejected usually chose to end their life shortly after, to escape the pain of losing your other half. I had heard rumors that those who couldn't end their life, turned feral, shifting to their wolf and returning to the wild, forgetting their humanity.         I wasn't sure how I would handle the rejection, but I steeled myself with thoughts of my family. They needed me and I needed them, I couldn't be weak. I would get through this.         He pulled my face up so I was looking at him, his eyes seeming to soften. Looking at him, I held my breath again, telling myself that I was imaging it.         "What are you thinking, little Mate? Do you truly believe that I would reject you?" he asked.         Tears filled my eyes but I refused to let them flow. 'Stay strong.' I told myself. My wolf was being suspiciously quiet.         I nodded my head mutely. 'Why is he dragging this out? Does he want to see me crumble?' I thought as his face became almost unreadable. He sighed, turning away. Maybe the mere sight of me was too much for him. I felt my heart drop to my feet. I just wanted this to be over, to run and hide to lick my wounds.         I watched wearily as he sat on the edge of the bed, putting his face in his hands. Before I knew what was happening, I found myself standing in front of him, my fingers running through his hair. I wanted to soothe him, easing the turmoil in his mind. It was clear that he was struggling and I knew then that I would have to be the one to do it.          As a mercy for my mate, I would have to complete the rejection for him. As much as it would destroy me, I would let him be happy.
