Released?

Muraco' P.O.V. I held in the groan that built up in my chest when she ran her fingers through my hair. I could feel the anxiety coming off of her in waves.  She thinks we will reject her. She expects it. My wolf whispers, his ears pulling back in annoyance. I know. She thinks I moved away to prepare myself or something. You need to calm down so I can talk to her. I know she's our mate and you want to claim her, but I can't reassure her with you clawing to get out. Just give a some time. I replied. With a low grumble, he withdrew a little, just enough for me to think clearly about what to say. I didn't know why Helen was so sure that I would reject her. Maybe she has been rejected before? I thought, my wolf growling angrily at the thought of someone hurting our mate that way. Easy. She's with us now. I warned him. I looked up to examine her face while she was distracted, surprised to see tears sliding slowly down her cheeks. Her black hair was pulled over her shoulders, framing her delicate features, her green eyes seemed to be out of focus and I could tell from her expression she was talking with her own wolf.  All I wanted to do was claim her, tell her that I would never hurt her, and never let her go. Whatever had happened to her in the past had left her extremely guarded. Before I could register what was happening, she removed her hands from my hair and took a few steps away, turning to hide her face. Hiding her thoughts and feelings from me. When she started speaking, my mind went blank at the sweetness of her voice, my mind not registering her words before she ran out the door. *************************************************************************************************************** Helen's P.O.V. Please don't do this! My wolf whimpered I have to! You know what it would be for him to be with us! We can't be the rogue mate of the Alpha King! I have to do it so he won't suffer. He deserves Happiness! I growled in response. But he's supposed to be happy with us!  I know, but he never will be. Not without a price that I would make him pay. I whispered back. I took a shaky breath, forcing myself away from him, and turning so he wouldn't see my face. With a deep breath, steeling my heart against the pain to come, I said, "I Helen MacRieve, having no pack, Reject you, Muraco, High King Werewolf as my mate." When the words left my mouth, I ran from the room, my heart shattering to a million pieces. Please be happy. I thought to myself. When I was in the hall, I ran blindly, trying to find a way out. I threw open one door after another, trying to find an exit. I didn't know where the High Council was located, but I was sure that as soon as I was outside, I would somehow find my way home. The last door on the left side of the hall finally opened to a large porch. Without a thought, I let my wolf take over as I ran into the dark woods outside, the last thing I heard was a roar that seemed to shake the large building, followed by a tormented howl of anguish.  As I ran, my thoughts seemed to slowly fade away, my wolf taking over completely until I was left in total darkness. I didn't bother trying to fight her. There was no point. I had released our mate to be free and I knew that we wouldn't survive without him. All the strength I thought I had vanished, leaving nothing but a wounded wolf, running to escape a pain that was deep in her heart. I'm sorry. Goodbye.
