A Storybi Chapter 1 Early Years In the remote and quaint town with only a single traffic light, nestled high up in the Tennessee mountains of Grundy County, resided a man named Jimmy. Since his youth, Jimmy had always found himself entangled in trouble and mischief, deriving pleasure from chaos and seeking thrill in activities such as drugs, theft, and anything that would make his adrenaline surge. During his late teens and early twenties, Jimmy and a friend embarked on a reckless joyride, seizing an unattended and running truck and careening all over the place. Eventually, when the entire law enforcement pursued them, they had no option but to abandon the vehicle, leaving it to sink in the town lake. It was there that Jimmy encountered a girl, and they began spending time together. However, her parents vehemently disapproved of the relationship. Like any rebellious teenage girl, she clandestinely met Jimmy, leading to her unexpected pregnancy with their first daughter. Given their predicament, they moved in with Jimmy's parents. As the anticipation of their second child grew, they decided to tie the knot. Jimmy worked as a carpenter, albeit intermittently, as he frequently indulged in wild escapades around town. Consequently, financial resources were limited, prompting his parents to assist in procuring an affordable double-wide trailer situated on several acres, not even half a mile away from their own residence. By this time, Jimmy and his partner had three daughters, and space was becoming increasingly scarce at his parents' house. During their first Christmas in the new abode, finances were tight, prompting them to steal a vehicle from the mountains, only to discover a pristine, untouched Christmas tree in its trunk. To supplement their income, Jimmy delved into selling m*******a, but with unfortunate consequences. One night, he was apprehended at a hotel for distribution, leading to his imprisonment for slightly over a year, thus wrenchingly separating him from his family. Upon his release, Jimmy turned to breeding Rottweiler dogs, selling them as a means of sustenance until he secured a job. Subsequently, he decided to utilize some of his property by placing singlewide trailers and leasing them out, although this venture incurred its fair share of complaints and delinquent tenants. People came and went frequently, except for one summer when they entrusted a tall, red-haired, slender man with lengthy locks to occupy their rental. This individual proved to be remarkably amiable, well-mannered, and even helpful, leading to a profound friendship. He often joined Jimmy's family for meals, and sometimes the girls would venture down to play with him. This harmonious dynamic persisted for a considerable period, until an unforeseen and unimaginable event transpired one winter.Rosco, the beautiful German Shepherd pup, caught Jimmy's eye and he immediately knew he had to bring him home. Jimmy dedicated a significant amount of time to training and teaching the dog various tricks. He became deeply fond of his furry companion. However, one chilly morning, Rosco mysteriously disappeared without a trace. Filled with desperation to find his beloved pet, Jimmy embarked on a search throughout the area, reaching out to neighbors and friends for any information. When he reached his friend Jerry's house, he inquired, "Have you seen Rosco around? I've searched everywhere, but he seems to have vanished. It's out of character for him to run off or not respond when I call out to him." Jerry replied, "No, my friend, but I'm more than willing to help you search for him." As the two men explored the property in pursuit of the lost dog, Jimmy's wife ventured to the neighboring trailer to inquire about any sightings. She approached the door and timidly knocked. Slowly, the door creaked open, revealing a woman peering out. "Can I help you?" she asked. Jimmy's wife explained her purpose, and the lady, hesitant to engage in any trouble, responded by labeling him as unstable. Confused, Jimmy's wife pressed further, asking, "Who?" As the woman provided her response, Jimmy's wife couldn't believe what she was hearing. Determined to inform Jimmy of the horrific details, she persuaded the woman to accompany her back to their house and patiently await Jimmy's arrival. Upon Jimmy's eventual return, he cast a glare from the woman to his wife, annoyance evident in his expression as he inquired if they had located the dog. His wife simply shook her head and responded, motioning for him to take a seat, "You'd better sit down. She has something important to tell you." Slowly, Jimmy settled into the chair across from them, his face displaying concern. Commencing her narrative, the woman began, "Jimmy, I am aware that you and Jerry share a close friendship, however, he is not the person you perceive him to be. He is a danger." Jimmy let out a chuckle, stating, "Jerry is not dangerous." His wife interjected, urging him to let her finish, "Allow her to complete her account." Continuing her story, the woman revealed, "Last night, Jerry asked me if I wanted to watch a movie, and I agreed, thinking he was a good guy. So, I said yes." With a brief pause, the woman resumed, "Approximately thirty minutes later, we heard rustling outside, prompting Jerry to investigate. It was Rosco, tearing open a garbage bag." Pausing again for effect, the woman trembled and tears formed in her eyes as she continued, "Jerry became so enraged; I had never witnessed that side of him. He stormed inside, retrieved a belt, and wrapped it around your dog's neck. He also took a knife, presumably with malicious intent." The woman paused once more before confessing, "I'm so sorry, Jimmy, but he left the bloodstained belt and knife on his table." Jimmy leapt up, his anger consuming him, his eyes brimming with fury. However, before he could storm out, his wife stopped him, advising him to handle the situation intelligently, "Let's be sensible about this. We should contact the police, have them conduct a search of the premises, and then request that Jerry gather his belongings and leave, for the sake of everyone's safety." So, that is precisely what they did. As they anxiously waited, the police officer confirmed the presence of blood and dog hair inside Jerry's house, but no trace of the dog's body was found. They apprehended him, leading him away in handcuffs, leaving Jimmy feeling foolish and sullen for not seeing past the mask.
