Chapter 24: Thad Advises
After my endearing moment with Gillian I make my way into the cottage for a bottle of water. I hear thunder overhead for the first time, which promises a heart-pounding storm and a wet day. The kitchen is dark because clouds thicken and hide the sun. I become a mere shadow within the room.
I lean into the counter, uncap the water, and take a swig. The liquid is soothing and refreshing, exactly what I need. A bolt of lightning cracks through the heavens and fills the kitchen with bright yellow light, startling me. It’s the first time I see Thad on the other side of the room, still bare-chested and sporting his Vanmer Vipers uniform bottoms. He holds a football in his right hand, grins at me, and says, “Follow me, Jay.”
