We all tried to figure out where the note came from, as maids were dispatched to clean the room. The damned paper didnt even have a sent beyond ink and honey. Everyone was either scared out of their minds or absolutely enraged. It is clearly a sacred animal to us and to kill a wolf is beyond unforgivable. The clean up crew was already at work, but the wolf's blood smell would stay there for a while. However, that night the body would be burned with, insense and offerings to the Moon Goddess with hopes of her forgiveness.
While all the cleaning was going on, Thorn and I went to his office and locked the door. I stood by the window as he was clicking away on his computer. After a while in silence, Thorn said "they have all agreed to meet us at the council's grounds." He leaned back in his chair, "are you sure we won't need extra security? There will also be humans around please don't forget that."
I stayed silent for a moment thinking it over, eventually staying with the original plan. "No need to get extras involved on our side, you don't know the extent of my powers, I can handle anything he tries." I was over confident, which was never a good thing but I wasn't going to back down and let others fight my fight now.
"So all eight will be there?" I asked
"Yes." Thorn replied shortly, I could tell he wanted more guards around, and after today it would have been a better idea to do so. A knock came on his door, and Thorn got up to unlock it and let his beta in.
"Alpha Thorn," he said, "it is almost dusk and we need to prepare for the fire tonight. He hung his head down as those last words left him with bitter rage. There is no hiding these types of feelings, even the best poker face couldn't conceal the pain and anger behind tonights mood.
We went down to the open courtyard, there was a large fire being put together as well as burning incense around the bottom of the wood. It almost looked like an old offering type alter, just with a fire now instead of a stone slab. Thorn took it upon himself to bring the wolf down and lay it on the fire, the adults were walking up and putting their different offerings of food, flowers, clothing, jewlery, and pretty much anything that they could give from each household. It was made clear that these offerings weren't required, but everyone felt the need to participate. The children were playing around the courtyard, knowing something was going on but being too young to fully understand it. We all knew that though Thorn didn't kill the wolf, since he was the one to take it to the alter, he would get the punishment, if there would be one, from the Goddess. After the body was burned and the incense burned down, the children had dinner and went to sleep, while the adults fasted.
After everything had settled down and everyone went to bed, I still couldn't enter my room. The smell of the wolf's blood was too strong for me to sleep in there. Since it was quiet and no one was around, I decided to meditate on what happened today. I pulled the note out of my pocket and held it with both hands, trying to get a hint of energy from it, trying to let it tell me what had happened or who had touched it. All I could see was black, nothing except black and the smell of honey and blood.
I felt myself being pulled from my body, turning I saw what could be described as a blue light that spoke to me with the softest voice. The light passed through me and I woke in a shock. Angry I threw the note in the fire and went outside to the forest. I tried to understand what the voice met it had said "he needs to do it tonight because of what he did." Stupid riddles. I was walking around the forest's edge, letting the night air blow through my hair, when I heard a baby cry, and turned to see the blue light again in the shape of a baby. I picked the baby up and the light burst out of my hands into the night sky.
It was a dream, I had fallen asleep meditating. A baby was the gift Thorn would receive for his actions today, the Moon Goddess wasn't angry at him, but there was a window of opportunity he would miss if this didn't happen soon. I made my way up the hall and into the alpha's room, it was all quiet, no excitement going on here tonight. I put my hands on either his and his mate's shoulders, and tried to spark feeling of desire into them. They both had woken up though and, very scared, attacked me.
"Wait stop!" I yelled.
"Shaman??! What are you doing here??" Thorn yelled angrily.
"Well, long story short, I think the Moon Goddess showed me you will have a child, but you have to do it soon or you won't get the chance again for a while." I stood for a moment, not sure what to do.
"Well" Thorn said.
"yes?" I asked
"Then GET OUT!" He replied.
"Oh right," I said awkwardly as I left the room.
I could only hope they took my advice and it wasn't wrong, even if it was at least Thron would be getting laid either way I guess. The vision was to show us that even in death a new life can be made. OR at least that's what I hoped it meant, I could always be wrong. I found myself on the edge of the forest, this time it wasn't a dream. I took a deep breath in, the air smelled of sweet flowers, fresh grass, burning wood from earlier, and honey...the same honey that was on the note.
