Chapter 15: Taken

466 Words
The sound of gunshots didn’t stop. If anything… It got louder. Closer. My heart was pounding so hard I could barely think. He told me to stay. But how could I? How could I just stand here while everything was falling apart outside? My hands trembled as I moved toward the door. Just one look. I needed to see what was happening. Slowly… I opened it. The hallway was no longer quiet. Men were running. Voices shouting. The air felt heavy. Dangerous. I stepped out. Careful. Trying not to draw attention. But everything was chaos now. No one noticed me. Another gunshot echoed— Closer this time. I flinched. “Stay inside!” someone shouted. But it was too late. I was already moving. My feet carried me down the stairs without thinking. Toward the noise. Toward him. I reached the main hall— And froze. The doors were open. Smoke filled the air. Broken glass everywhere. And outside— Men with guns. My breath caught. Then I saw him. Standing in the middle of it all. Calm. Focused. Dangerous. He moved fast— Dodging. Firing. Giving orders. Like this was nothing new to him. My heart tightened painfully. This was his world. And I didn’t belong here. Suddenly— Someone grabbed me from behind. A hand covered my mouth. My scream was cut off instantly. Panic exploded inside me. “Don’t move,” a rough voice whispered near my ear. My body went rigid. I struggled— But his grip tightened. “You’re coming with us.” My heart dropped. No. No, no, no— I tried to fight back. But he was stronger. He dragged me backward. Toward the side exit. My eyes searched desperately— Looking for him. And then— Our eyes met. Across the chaos. For a second… Everything slowed. His expression changed instantly. From control— To something else. Rage. Pure rage. “Let her go!” he shouted. My heart stopped. He started moving toward us— Fast. But a gunshot rang out. He stopped. Just for a second. And that was enough. I was pulled outside. Cold air hit my face. My heart was racing uncontrollably. “Move!” the man ordered. I struggled again. “Let me go!” My voice broke. But no one listened. A black car stood waiting. The door opened. “Get her in.” Panic consumed me. “No—!” I tried to pull away— But they forced me inside. The door slammed shut. Darkness surrounded me. My breathing became uneven. And then— The car started moving. Fast. I looked back through the window— And saw him. Standing there. Watching the car disappear. His expression unreadable now. But his eyes… They promised one thing. This wasn’t over.
