Chapter 14: The Enemy Revealed

466 Words
His words stayed with me long after he left. “You’re safe here because of them.” Them. Not just one person. More than one enemy. My chest tightened at the thought. I wasn’t just trapped in his world… I was part of it now. The next morning felt colder. Even the sunlight didn’t make the room feel warm. I stood by the window again, watching the gates outside. Guards. More than before. Something had changed. A sudden knock broke the silence. “Come in,” I said quietly. The door opened— But this time… It wasn’t a maid. It was one of his men. “He wants to see you,” the man said. My heart skipped. “Why?” “Now.” No explanation. Just a command. I hesitated for a moment. Then followed. The mansion felt different as I walked through it. More tense. More alive. Men were moving quickly. Talking in low voices. Something was wrong. We reached his office. The door was already open. He stood inside. Facing the window. His back to me. “Leave us,” he said. The guard stepped away immediately. Silence filled the room. “What’s going on?” I asked carefully. He didn’t turn right away. “Someone is coming,” he said finally. My heart dropped. “Who?” He turned slowly this time. And the look in his eyes… It wasn’t calm. It wasn’t controlled. It was serious. “An enemy,” he said. Silence. My chest tightened. “Because of me?” I asked quietly. He didn’t answer immediately. And that… Was answer enough. “Who is it?” His jaw tightened slightly. “Someone who wants to hurt me,” he said. His eyes locked onto mine. “And now… you too.” My breath caught. “Why me?” He stepped closer. Slowly. “Because you matter now,” he said quietly. My heart skipped. Those words hit harder than anything else. “You shouldn’t say things like that,” I whispered. “Why?” “Because they make this harder.” Silence. For a moment… Everything between us felt too real. Too close. Then suddenly— A loud noise echoed outside. Gunshots. My entire body froze. “Stay here,” he ordered immediately. “No—” “Stay.” This time his voice wasn’t calm. It was sharp. Commanding. My heart raced. “What’s happening?” “They’re here.” The words sent a chill through me. Before I could say anything else— He turned and walked out. Fast. The door slammed behind him. Leaving me alone. With the sound of chaos growing louder outside. My hands started trembling. This was real. His world. His enemies. And now… I was right in the middle of it.
