Chapter 8: His Jealousy

672 Words
I couldn’t forget his words. “You might start trusting me.” They stayed in my mind long after I left him that night. Trust him? That sounded ridiculous. And yet… I didn’t pull away. That was the problem. The next morning felt different. The mansion was quieter than usual, but not tense like before. Almost… calm. Too calm. I walked downstairs slowly, unsure of what to expect. But when I reached the living area— I stopped. There was someone new. A man I had never seen before. He stood near the window, dressed sharply, his posture relaxed but confident. He turned when he heard my steps. And smiled. “Well… this must be her,” he said smoothly. My body tensed immediately. “Who are you?” I asked carefully. He chuckled softly and stepped closer. “A friend,” he replied. Friend? Somehow… that didn’t make me feel better. “You’re even more beautiful than I expected,” he added, his gaze openly studying me. I felt uncomfortable instantly. His взгляд… It wasn’t like his. It wasn’t controlled. It wasn’t distant. It was… too direct. “Stop,” I said quietly. He raised an eyebrow, amused. “Stop what?” “Looking at me like that.” A low laugh escaped him. “Interesting…” He stepped even closer. Too close. “No one told me she has attitude.” Before I could step back— “That’s enough.” The voice was cold. Sharp. Dangerous. I didn’t even need to turn around. I knew it was him. The air changed instantly. Heavy. The man in front of me smirked slightly. “There he is,” he said casually. I turned slowly. He stood there… Calm. Controlled. But his eyes— His eyes were dark. Too dark. “Step away from her,” he said quietly. Not loud. But it sounded like a command no one would dare ignore. The other man raised his hands slightly in mock surrender and stepped back. “Relax,” he said. “I was just talking.” “You talk too much,” he replied coldly. Silence. Tension filled the room instantly. I stood between them… unsure what to do. “You didn’t tell me she was this interesting,” the man added with a grin. His jaw tightened slightly. “She’s not for you to be interested in.” My heart skipped. Not for you. The words echoed louder than they should have. “Oh?” the man tilted his head. “And who is she for, then?” Silence. His eyes flicked to me for a brief second… Then back to him. “Mine.” The word hit harder than anything else. My breath caught. The room felt smaller. Warmer. The other man laughed quietly. “Didn’t know you were the jealous type.” He didn’t respond. But his silence said enough. “Careful,” the man added, stepping back completely now. “You might scare her away.” His gaze shifted to me again. And this time… It softened. Just slightly. “She’s not going anywhere,” he said. My heart tightened. Because I didn’t know if that was a promise… Or a warning. The other man finally left, still smiling to himself. And just like that… It was only us again. Silence filled the room. But it felt different now. Charged. Heavy. “Are you okay?” he asked suddenly. I blinked in surprise. That wasn’t what I expected. “I’m fine,” I replied. He stepped closer. Slowly. Carefully. “If anyone makes you uncomfortable…” His voice dropped lower. “You tell me.” My heart skipped again. “Why?” I asked quietly. He stopped right in front of me. His eyes locked onto mine. “Because I don’t like sharing.” Silence. My breath caught. This wasn’t just control anymore. It was something else. Something far more dangerous. And for the first time… I realized— I might not be the only one losing control.
