Chapter 10: No Turning Back

told myself to stay away from him. To think clearly. To remember who he was… and what this place really meant. But every time I tried— His voice would echo in my mind. His touch would linger on my skin. And the worst part? I didn’t want it to disappear. I stood by the window, staring at the city lights below. The night stretched endlessly, quiet but alive. Just like me. Restless. “You’re thinking about me again.” I froze. I didn’t turn immediately. Because I already knew. “You really need to stop doing that,” I said quietly. “Doing what?” His voice was closer now. “Showing up without warning.” A soft chuckle left his lips. “You’re in my house.” I turned slowly this time. And there he was. Standing in the doorway, his presence filling the entire room like it belonged there. Like he belonged everywhere. “That doesn’t mean you can walk into my space,” I replied. “Everything here is my space,” he said calmly. My chest tightened slightly. “That’s exactly the problem.” Silence. But it didn’t last long. Because he started walking toward me. Slow. Measured. Dangerous. Every step he took made it harder to breathe. “You’ve been avoiding me,” he said. “I haven’t.” “You have.” His voice dropped lower. “Why?” I crossed my arms, trying to stay steady. “Maybe I just don’t want to be near you all the time.” Big mistake. I saw it instantly. The shift in his eyes. Darker. Sharper. And then— He moved. Fast. One second there was distance— The next… none. My back hit the wall softly. My breath stopped. His hand came up, resting beside my head. Trapping me between him and the wall. “Say that again,” he said quietly. My heart was pounding so loud I was sure he could hear it. “I said—” My voice faltered. Because his other hand lifted… And gently touched my face. Not rough. Not controlling. Careful. Like I was something fragile. “You don’t mean that,” he murmured. My lips parted slightly. “You don’t know what I mean,” I whispered. His thumb brushed across my lower lip. And everything inside me… stopped. “I know enough,” he said. My breath became uneven. “Then stop,” I said softly. “Stop what?” “Making it harder.” Silence. His eyes searched mine. Like he was trying to understand something deeper. Or maybe… Like he already did. “You want me to stop?” he asked quietly. I didn’t answer. Because I didn’t know how. His face moved closer. Slowly. Giving me time. Giving me a chance to push him away. But I didn’t. I couldn’t. “Then don’t run,” he whispered. And then— His lips touched mine. Soft at first. Careful. Like he was testing the moment. My mind went blank. Completely. Then something inside me broke. All the tension. All the confusion. It turned into something else. Something stronger. The kiss deepened. Warmer. Intense. Real. My hands moved on their own… Gripping his shirt, pulling him closer. Like I didn’t want him to stop. And he didn’t. His hand moved slightly, holding me tighter— Not forcing. Just… keeping me there. The world disappeared. There was nothing else. Just him. Just this moment. And then— A loud knock. Reality crashed back instantly. We both froze. His forehead rested briefly against mine. His breathing heavier now. Just like mine. “Boss,” a voice came from outside. “We have a serious problem.” His expression changed. Back to cold. Controlled. But his eyes… They stayed on me. “This isn’t over,” he said quietly. Then he stepped back. Turned. And walked out. Leaving me alone… My lips still tingling. My heart completely out of control. And one truth echoing in my mind— I crossed a line I could never uncross.
