Chapter 4- Kai

I decided against going to school with the brothers today. I caught a scent on the grounds that wasn’t supposed to be there, but I knew exactly who it belonged to.

“He’s found her before we did.” I thought to my wolf.

“Are we sure she even attends this school?” Romulus, my wolf, grumbled in my head.

“Are you questioning the Goddess right now?” I asked my wolf, appalled.

“No, but don’t you think we’d have caught her scent by now as well?” My wolf whined. “But no, the very day our Goddess told us who we were, and that we had a mate, you decide not to attend school.”

I cringed at the whining my wolf was doing. Who knew that a mate could reduce an Alpha King to a whining, blubbering mess. Romulus growled deeply before blocking himself from me. I knew the choice I made was the right one. The boys could help me from here.

However, this disgusting scent of old stale blood could only mean one thing.

“Vampire.” I growled ferociously. I set off after the scent at once. It didn’t take long to find him…I stayed at a distance. Watching the disgusting creatures force their way through a home in the Suburbs near the college. I itched to tear them apart, but I couldn’t interfere in this. I moved a bit closer to hear the conversation without being noticed.

Once I had gotten into my position in shifted into my wolf sight and hearing to get what I could from this. I could tell this wasn’t going to end in any other way than the two humans deaths. However, the mother stood defiant, as they bound her and her husband to chairs. There was only one reason a mother such as her would ever stand up to these creatures…is for her child. Then again, he caught another scent from the human herself. She wasn’t human. In fact she smelled much like that of the Goddess. No!! Impossible!! They couldn’t be brave enough to kill a direct descendant of the Goddess!! His gaze riveted on the woman as her body took on that of an ethereal glow. Her eyes turned the very blue of the ocean. Her aura had everyone on their knees, except that of her captor. In fact, he had the audacity to mock her. Big. Mistake.

She flew through the apartment, slaughtering each of the abominations he sired. As soon as the last few were left standing, he snarled and attacked her. The man screamed. The woman and the vampire went blow for blow. Evenly matched. As she turned to face the very window I was placed, she smiled kindly. She knew me!! She turned to her husband and nodded. He sighed wearily. His jaw then contracted sharply. She raced to him and held him as the life dulled in his eyes. She kissed him one last time.

The vampire roared. However, he couldn’t advance on the two individuals. The sun created a barrier even he couldn’t penetrate. She smiled sadly. She knew this was her end. She smiled evilly at the bloodsucker before her. She sighed heavily before speaking,

“It’s too late, Daichi. You will not have her. Kimiko may not know about this world yet, but that knowledge is due to come any time now. Her mate has found her.”

Kai gasped. The name sounded so beautiful. Otherworldly, almost. He was now very sure this woman’s daughter is his mate. His wolf rumbled excitedly, finally a clue as to who she is.

The vampire, Daichi, hissed full of rage and venom, “You know nothing, Ariadne, I will have her and kill that pathetic excuse of a man.”

She chuckled tiredly, “I didn’t go through all of this, with a certainty that I would die, just to fail. She will Awaken soon, and our deaths will not be in vain.” As she finished her sentence, Ariadne looked to the sky. With that she closed her eyes, and plunged her Moon blade into her heart.

“Forgive me, Kimiko. I love you.” She whispered weakly as the life faded from her. The vampire roared once more. He couldn’t figure out if it was from the lack of information about the girl, or that he couldn’t kill them himself. However, he did get what he needed to know. He ran as fast and as silently as he could back to the University. He needed to have the boys get her out of there pronto.
