~Spencer's POV~
Today had been a long day. After work, I went home to check on my and Sarah's dog, a golden retriever named Oliver. He has been sad since she disappeared. Barely eating meals and always sitting at the door waiting for his mommy to come home. I felt sorry for him. He just didn't understand she may never come home. I didn't want to give up, I couldn't give up. Sarah is the love of my life. We have been planning a small wedding for both of our families and honestly, as a man, I never really got into the whole wedding planning but with Sarah, it was fun and didn't feel like a chore. After I clean the half-eaten bowl and gave him more food Oliver sat down and just looked at the bowl as if he was disappointed. I couldn't help but chuckle softly. "Oliver, it is the same food mommy feeds you..." I muttered softly before petting his little head. He just sat there and stared at the bowl.
After sitting in the kitchen watching the poor depressed dog stare at his bowl I finally decided I should eat something but my phone started to beep in my pocket. It was a text message from my friend Grant. He works on the swat team and I have been begging him to help keep me updated on Sarah's search. "I think we found Sarah. 9836 Crowle Road." That was all the text said. I nearly jumped out of my skin and rushed out of the house. The whole drive over, I could feel my heart racing and my head pounding. I just wanted my Sarah back in my arms. I wanted to hold her again and make love to her. I swore to god I would never let her go if he gave her back.
Arriving, I rushed into the house. A few policemen tried to stop me but I quickly used my doctor's ability. "I am the medical examiner, they called me," I said and the cop just looked me up and down then nodded his head towards the stairs. "They are upstairs with some of the victims." I rushed up the stairs and started to look in the rooms. In the hallway, they had a few women sitting down. I rushed over and showed them a photo. They all looked at the photo, they all frowned and one of the girls pointed down the hall. "She might be there," She said before crawling into another woman's lap and crying out. I turned and started down the hall to show another woman the photo, when she saw it she looked at me then pointed to a room. "There She is in there" I jumped and smiled. "Thank you, Thank you," I said in excitement before I rushed to the room. "Sarah!" I yelled out. I was going to have her in my arms. Oh, my love, You are safe! I thought before I felt as if I had been punched.
I stopped and stood there looking at the woman. God, She looked so much like my Sarah, but she wasn't. No! No! this can't be! I felt as if someone had ripped my heart out. I stood there in shock looking at the woman until the Detective came around the bed to stop me. His words faded to my ear and I just stood there looking at her. I couldn't take my eyes from her, She was beautiful but she wasn't my Sarah. I was about to say something when I heard her speak. Her voice was like sweet music, I never heard anything like it but when I heard her name, I felt the world explode. 'Catlin Zelpher' She was the kid that went missing almost ten years ago. The same girl my twin sister babysat on the weekends. The same girl I used to tease cause she was five years younger than me and always followed me around like a lost puppy.
As the detectives did their work I stood back and watched. Catlin was scared, I could see it in her face. But I couldn't help but think about the fact her parents were now dead, Her mother died of a broken heart months after she was kidnapped and her father committed suicide after a year of looking. Some people thought her father was part of the reason she disappeared and knew who took her. I mean it is easy to stage a suicide if someone really wanted to. I am a doctor, I have seen some crazy s**t while working even in medical school. As I thought things over I followed close behind, When the detectives told me they needed to have her examined I recommended my close friend Ameria, She was one of the best and worked with women who were rapped. I quickly texted her and told her we were heading there.
The drive to the hospital was quick, I swear I spaced out a few times and probably drove through some street lights. I watched as the female detective, Connie, I think her name is, take Catlin to the room and leave her there before returning. "I can't believe it, I can't believe we found her. Her parents went through so much. They paid every ransom, they did everything they were demanded but never got her back." Connie said before looking to Derrek the male detective. "I bet that Mason Evans is behind all this." My head popped up when I heard that name. 'Mason Evans' was the Crime boss, well everyone called him the boss but to me, he was just another punk asshole who got everything he wanted. His family was rich, besides they moved here just around the same time Catlin had gone missing. Mason was my age but he didn't go to school with me and my sister, He was homeschooled. His father did run the Casino since it was built.
I was about to say something when I heard yelling coming from the exam room. I jumped up and rushed into the room. "Ameria.. What the Hell!" I yelled. "She has Stockholm syndrome, She was trying to go back.." I sighed and looked at Catlin. What the hell happened to her? I asked before I helped Ameria put her in the bed. We quickly stripped her to the bed so she couldn't hurt herself or us, or try to escape back to her kidnapper. Once she was settled I sat beside her and stroked her hair gently. "Shhh, Catlin, It's ok. Just go to sleep." I told her as I looked into her eyes. I could see her fear. This girl had been brainwashed and destroyed. It wasnt fair. I didn't move until I could hear a soft snore coming from her. Ameria looked at me and sighed. "this is going to be harder than I thought" I said before she nodded and quickly set up the stuff for her medical exam.
It felt wrong to be in the room while she examined Catlin, So I and Derrek stepped out. Connie stayed in the room by Catlin just in case she woke up. Derrek started to make some phone calls and I leaned back against the wall of the hall just staring at the wall ahead of me. Finally, after a half-hour, the door of the exam room opened and Ameria and Connie came out. "There are no signs of intercourse or s****l assault. But that doesn't mean nothing happened to her." Ameria said and Connie and Derrek nodded. Derrek looked at me and Ameria. "I called around and got what info I could on her. Her birthday is tomorrow. She will be eighteen.. I am going to find a place for her but for tonight maybe we can keep her here. I will station a few policemen to stand by and keep an eye out for anyone who might come to take her back. But I have a bad feeling about keeping her here." He said and Connie sighed. "You know we could get a protection house but it takes weeks just for the damn paperwork." They both looked defeated. Ameria looked at me for a moment and I instantly seemed to catch on to her idea.
"What if I take her? I have space and no one would suspect me having her." I said as Ameria smiled. "Your place is like Fort Knox too, And it would give her some space away from the city." I laughed and nodded my head. The detectives looked at each other than at me. "That would work," They both said simultaneously. I almost laughed. We stood there talking a few more minutes before Ameria went off to see another patient and I went down to my office to grab a few things to help make her stay a little easier. It took maybe an hour and I was back up in her room. She was still asleep and Ameria had replaced her clothes and helped me get her into a wheelchair. "you sure you will be ok? I mean she looks like Sarah, That won't bother you will it?" I shook my head no without a word. Honestly, It was going to be hard. But I knew I could never cheat on Sarah so I would never do anything with this girl. Plus, It's not like she was going to have any interest in me.
The drive home was long, I put Catlin in the back of the car and covered her with a blanket allowing her to sleep. I really didn't want her to wake up but if she did I would do my best to get her to stay calm. I pulled up to the gate and scanned my hand on the scanner. My parents were really rich and well, let's just say, They paid for my security system. I even had guards but I have never seen them. I paid them extra to stay out of my sight. Reaching the house, I parked the car in the garage and looked back. Catlin was still asleep, her soft snores reminded me of the days she took naps when my sister babysat. I found myself staring when she started to stir awake. I froze but instead of trying to get away she sat there and looked around. When her eyes landed on mine through the mirror she gripped the blanket more and pulled it tighter against her. I wasnt sure what was going through her mind but I did want to know, I turned slowly and looked at her. "You are safe, Are you hungry? You had a long night. We can get something to eat and I will show you your new room." She sat there very still and didn't move but when I opened my car door she did the same and followed me.
Entering the house, I have totally forgotten about Oliver and when he ran into the hall barking at the new smell. I heard Catlin scream in fear and rush back to the garage. I quickly dropped the things I was carrying and rushed after her. "Catlin! Stop" I yelled and as soon as I did she stopped instantly and lowered her head in a very submissive way. I found myself stopping a few feet from her. "Please don't be scared, Oliver will not hurt you," I said as she turned and looked back towards the door. Oliver was sitting at the door panting, waiting for permission to come across the invisible barrier Sarah trained him to not cross without permission. I looked back towards the door and sighed. "He is well behaved, I am sorry, I didn't think you would be scared of him," I said and she moved closer to me. When I turned back I noticed she moved closer and smiled. "If he goes to jump on you just tell him down, And to sit. He will listen to you." I said and stepped aside to allow her to go into the house first this time.
