Emilia’s POV Walking into the room, my heart was full of excitement. ‘Tonight, Mason and I are finally running away together, leaving all the pain and hate behind…’. Just as I stepped inside the room, I couldn’t believe what I saw. Wrapped in each other’s arms, with heavy moans and banging bed sounds, I found Mason, my boyfriend and Kate, my stepsister. How in the hell is this happening??? I could feel my breath ceasing, and my heart beating fast. Mason? Kate? What… What is going on here? I asked, as I managed not to have a panic attack. Emilia, I.. I can explain, this isn't what it looks like!. Mason mumbled as he tried to cover himself up hurriedly, his eyes full of shame. Kate, on the other hand, just rolled her eyes and completely looked unbothered like nothing had happened. “Oh, come on Emilia. Don’t be so dramatic, we were just having a little fun.” My eyes were full of tears and my voice was beginning to break as I spoke. “Fun? You call this fun? I don’t blame you. Mason, how could you even do this to me? To us?” “Emilia, please listen to me,” Mason uttered desperately. “It’s not what you think, I know I’ve made a mistake. I was drunk and I wasn’t thinking straight. Honestly, Emilia, it meant nothing, I swear!” Kate jumped in bluntly, her nonchalant attitude was really making me more furious. “Relax Emilia, it’s not like you guys were going to last together anyway. You should be thanking me instead. I was only doing you a favor, by showing you his true colors.” I felt my tears run down my eyes, my heart had just been broken into a million pieces. “I trusted, and I loved you so much, Mason. And you, Kate… you are my sister. How could you betray me like this? I understand that we don’t get along often, but this is just too much.” Mason was already shedding crocodile tears as he spoke softly. “Emilia, please, don’t leave me. My life will be miserable without you. I will make things right. I love you so much, I really do, and I can’t imagine a life without you.” “Well, this has been fun, but I think at this point I will have to leave the two of you to get it over with. Good luck, sis.” Kate said mockingly as the conversation was beginning to bore her out. As she turned away to leave the room, she stopped for a minute and looked at Mason, dragged his chin closer and gave him a peck on the lips, intentionally to spite me more. She shut the door behind her and left with a big bang. My heart was sinking at that point. It was like the ground should open up and swallow me. I still couldn’t imagine what my eyes had just witnessed. Mason, who I thought I was going to run away to Deventer with to start a new life together, is now the one who just dashed all my hopes. A part of me felt regrets, a part of me was broken, but I knew I had to let go of all these sad emotions. “Mason is not the one for me. If I didn’t know before, it is already glaring. I am not going to let this get to me.” I said, my voice shaking with tears running down my eyes. I tried to get myself together. I am easily going to let this define my life. After all, my life is not tied to Mason’s. Deep down, I knew I had only one option left. Agree to marry the ruthless, mysterious Alpha of the Mooncrest pack, Taylor. The wedding was meant to be tomorrow. I thought I was just going to leave everything and runaway with Mason to start all over. But since Mason’s phase is over, it’s time I started to face the reality before me. Maybe this was meant to happen, maybe I was cursed, or maybe it is just my fate. I do not know. After my mother died, I knew I had no choice, since my dad had already married a new wife and my jealous step sister came into the picture, I knew I was done for. But amidst all that, I made up my mind for sure that I was going to get through whatever came my way. I looked at Mason in disgust and turned to leave the room. I could almost hear him running after me trying to manage the situation, but it was already too late. “I have to do what I have to do”, I thought in my head. I shut the door behind me and walked away trying to hold my balance, so I didn’t fall off as I was already losing my mind. I struggled to find my way to my room when I overhead my father and my stepmother discussing my wedding arrangements softly. I stopped for a minute to hear what they were saying. “It’s not like she is of any good to us here. Being the weakest in the pack, I don’t see her usefulness. It would be a good idea to unite the two families at the wedding.” my stepmother whispered to my father. My father never had a mind of his own and was always tossed around like a pawn by Kate and her mother, who influenced most of his decisions. I knew it was not a topic to debate, it was all a matter of time before Alpha Taylor and his pack came to take me away. Having been left heart broken by Mason who I had all my hopes for, I just had to move on and start getting used to my new life. I eventually found my way to my warm, soft and cozy bed. I didn’t even realize I was already dozing off, I couldn’t stop thinking of Alpha Taylor, the man I was meant to marry tomorrow, someone I don’t even know. One moment, I was staring at the ceiling, the next moment Alpha Taylor was there, his face a few inches away from mine. His eyes were cold and full of lust that made my heart skip for a minute. He moved closer to me and I could feel his warm breath on my skin. Just as our lips were about to touch, I felt a sharp sting on my cheek. I woke up suddenly, confused, and saw my stepmother standing over me with her hand still raised. “Get up, you lazy head! Your husband is here,” she barked. My heart raced as I tried to shake off the dream and get back to reality. What would my life be like if I was married to someone I don’t even know? The thoughts kept running through my mind, filling me with a mix of fear and curiosity.
