“That’s a lie” Uncle Wyatt lashed out. He sharply turns towards me with a murderous look on his face.
His wife leaped forward and grabbed the will from Maverick, she searched through the words again and again before throwing it to the ground.
“This has to be some kind of mix-up” Uncle Wyatt continues, the bewildered look on his face was enough to know that he was pissed, not just at his father but at me.
I am shocked too by the will but I refused not to show it, Wyatt trades on fear, uses your emotions against you.
“You” he pointed his finger at me as he made way for me, I remained in my seat watching as he walked towards me.
“You did this, you plotted this from the very minute you came back.
You and that damn lawyer” he pointed at Maverick, who looked indeed calm. He must have witnessed his shenanigans several times to be this cool-headed.
“You connived with me, tell me? How did you do it, did you sell your body to him so that you can get everything” he moved closer than I anticipated so I rose from my seat.
“Mind what you say to me or I will forget that you are my uncle”
“You f*****g b***h” he raised his hand at me but was stopped mid-air, Alfred held his wrist so tight I could hear a crack from his bones.
He pushed Wyatt backwards causing him to stumble to the ground then he stood in front of me.
Emily, his wife rushed to help him up but he shoved her away from him, Marcel on the other hand had been seated in his chair with a glass of wine in his hand, from the minute the reading of the will began. He didn’t spare a single glance on what was going on.
I stepped forward, tapping Alfred on the shoulder, he pulled out of the way standing beside me.
I walked up to Wyatt and smiled at him, “How gullible can you be Uncle? What makes you think that Grandfather would leave anything for you. You had been banished, remember?”
I watched his tongue lick his teeth, his breathing grew louder than the ticking of the clock just above the Tv.
“You think you can get away with this, Do you think it is easy to steal from me”
I took one step further, cutting his words off, “I never stole anything from you, you never had a claim to the inheritance” I replied.
Before my father died, Grandfather had transferred his assets to him, Leaving Wyatt with nothing. If he had a claim then he would have been next in line after my father’s death but instead he got banishment.
Wyatt nods his head in mockery, “You are not going to get away with this, we will meet in court” he gave his final words, huffed at me then walked out the door.
His wife followed him like a puppet, then they drove off leaving behind his son.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Alfred take a step closer to me, his eyes pinned on something. I turned to my right to see Marcel walk towards me, the glass of wine still in his hand, he gulped the last drink down then paused in front of me.
“It’s been a while since I saw father riled up like that” then he slowly raised his head to me.
A smile obvious on his face.
“Good to see you again cousin” he stated as he let out a laugh, then drove off in his car.
“I will take my leave now” Maverick said as he dropped the letter my Grandfather wrote on the center table.
I watched him leave before I turned to Alfred who had never left my side, his eyes were already on me before I could focus on his.
“Thank you for defending me but I can stand up to my uncle” I said as a matter of fact.
“I know you can handle him but I won’t stop doing my job. My job is to protect you and if I need to shove your uncle to do that, then I would” he answered.
In a way he was right, but I didn’t want to be seen as the weak b***h who relied on her bodyguard, I have been waiting for the moment I could lay my hands on my uncle. For all the things he has done to me over the years.
Alfred reached for the communication link in his ear, “I understand” he says then grabs the Tv remote and turns it on.
A female Newscaster’s face pops up, “Breaking News, it has been confirmed that Mr Roman of the Roman Enterprises is dead and will be buried this Saturday at…”
Fuck!
A news I had been trying so hard to keep in the low was already out, I knew this was my Uncle’s doing, he had begun his first fight against me.
I had wanted Grandfather’s burial to be quiet with just his family, but now even the paparazzi would be there. It was useless pushing back on the date because Wyatt would still spill the information to the press.
“Turn it off” I ordered Alfred, then grabbed my Grandfather’s letter as I stormed up to the stairs into my room, I could see Alfred staring at me until I was out of sight.
