Chapter 1:You can run but you can't escape
"You can take her." I heard my father said that before everything went black. How could a father do this to his own daughter? I remember my relationship with him just being civil, he's giving me eveything I need and I can buy whatever I want. They showered me all the material things that I wanted, love and understanding because growing up, I am not really an easy kid to deal with. "Shana, summer vacation will be ending soon? Where do you wanna enroll? I heard St. Therese is an excellent school for a aspiring nurses? You want to be one, right?" my stepmother asked me. "Since when?" I asked her back without looking at her. "You kept on saying that when you were a kid. Oh, good old days. You grew up so fast." she said reminiscing our past. I chuckled. "Tell me, Klarise, when my father brought me home, What do you felt? Did you get angry, furious perhaps?" I asked sipping the glass of wine while looking at the her little garden. I am an illegitimate child, the youngest daughter, I am my father's daughter to some random woman. He brought me home and I was raised like I am really a part of the family. Like I am not an outcast. In fact, I wouldn't know it if it not just for stepmother's niece. We were attending the same school and we had fight. I hate dealing with her, she's such a baby and I don't like those damsel in distress. I don't like someone who is always relying on others, following orders and losing who they really are just to please someone. "I love you, I really do. At first, it was really hard for me, everytime I look at you, you reminds me your father's betrayal but you were an angel when you were a baby. You have smile that can ease someone's pain, you took away all the anger and pain that I felt. I love you as my own. I love you more than I love my own daughters." she replied. I can hear the agony and pain in her voice. "And you expect me to believe that?" I chuckled. I almost laugh mocking what she said. Deep inside my heart I knew that it was true. and never did I feel any hatred and envy from my sisters and brother because they love me as their mom loves me. No wonder that people around us often told us that I look different than them. That is the reason why I always colored my hair and wear lenses. Maybe it is just me that cannot accept the fact that I am not really part of this family. A perfect happy family. Since then, I became cold and distant. "Shana, your mother's relative is trying to reach you out. He told us that you're mother is in the brink of death and is looking for you." he informed me as if I care. I just ignore what he said. Just give me a break. I only have one mother. She's healthy, alive and kicking. "Shana.." I heard Erica's voice outside my room. I can also heard Leyna's voice. "Erica, leave me alone. I am tired." trying to make her away. "Shana.. My daughter, please open this door." my stepmom. Is she crying? Why are you making it hard for me? After half an hour someone forcebly open my bedroom's door. I'm shocked because there are strangers around my room together with my great father. "What is happening? Dad?" I stood up and stepped back from them because looking at their faces, I can see that they are ready to take me away. That's the last thing I remember before waking up in this strange town. Her town. I still couldn't believe that my father will do that, he's cold toward us but never did I think that he could send me away. "Let's tour around, Sheena." the woman called me by my first name, a sign that she doesn't really know me, she doesn't know every single thing about me. Sheena Anna. She gave me that name. I hate it. I don't like her calling me by my nickname either, we shared the same flesh and blood but she is nothing but a stranger. "I'm exhausted." I simply declined her. I thought she's dying. I chuckled. Seems like I am more close to death than her. I cannot stand looking at her face. Her brown hair and eyes is what I dislike the most, they resembles mine, I definitely look like her if only she isn't too thin. I get my jacket and check myself in the mirror. I'm going outside. Good thing that her house located downtown, there are a lot of places you can go to relax. It is an oldtown located in nowhere, my cellphone is even working here and there are weid thing going on in this own, the weather. At day, cloudy or rainy but at the night, the sky is clear. And the people, most of them are minding their own business and some are as weird as hell. They are looking at you like they are watching a prey walking down in this street. I walked towards the park and rest in of the bench. I see a different food cart at the side of the park, there are a lot of street foods and customers digging in in one of the stall. Pretty normal not until I saw that one person yesterday, I swear that he is drinking blood but just for a second because when I blinked he''s gone.. Maybe my imagination or hallucination. "Hi, Sheena." someone approached me in a friendly tone. Huh? "Do I know you?" she shook her head and offeref her hand to me. "I'm Graziela." she smiled. I accepted her hand. "Sheena. May I know why you know me?" I asked curiously. I don't feel any uneasiness or any danger at her. Her aura screams kindness and purity. I can sense someone's aura, sometimes I missed but since I went here it became stronger. "It's a small town. Anybody knows anybody." I roamed my eyes. Small town yet populated. Impossible to know every person living here. Maybe if you were born here, maybe. "Local from here?" I asked though I know the answer. "Yes. Good to see new faces here. So sick of seeing same person every day." she is smiling but her tone is like she's really done here. "You sounds like you've been living with them for a hundred of years." I replied while watching the kids playing in the playground. She laughed after a short silence. "Anyway, is Sahara getting better now?" I looked at her and now she's looking at kids playing. "Getting better. Maybe? I don't know. My father forced me to come here because she said that she's going to die. She said that when she met me, suddenly she has this urged to fight and the next thing I know, she refused to die." I said casually. She looked at me. "You're cruel." she said without any emotion. I shrugged my shoulder. "I want to go home." I said out of nowhere. After a long silence. I missed my mother and my siblings. If I only knew, I should've open the door that night. I should've talk to them, hug them and tell them how much I loved them especially my mother. "Do you think that you can consider this town your home now?" I shook my head. Home is where your family is. "This is your new home now, here is where you belong. Your fate lies in here, you are destined to be here even before you were born. Your blood made this town. You can run but you can't escape, Sheena."
