I saw him bend down and grab that rose. Then he stood up and his gaze landed back on me. He found the rose amusing and returned that same expression to me. His devilish smirk made me want to slap it right off his face.
I gritted my teeth and looked away, but I could hear him chuckling. His eyes still lingered on me as he walked closer, holding the rose in his hand, all while I pretended not to notice.
He comes and plops down next to me, making me scrunch my eyebrows. I completely avoid him and look elsewhere. My gaze lands on the rose in front of me and then shifts to the person holding it. I hear him say, "Is this rose for me? Did you bring it to propose?" Hearing this, I freeze in place.
Does he somehow know that I planned to propose him today? But how could he know? I only told Elena about it. I ignore him again, and this time, Elena speaks up and says, "Hey, you! Boy! Stop bothering my friend and get lost." Inside, I silently smirk because I know my friend won't abandon me. "And she didn't buy this rose to propose you, and throw it away after seeing you making out with that girl,"
Hearing her, I immediately whip my head around in shock. How could she just blurt that out and I hear him chuckle in response? I close my eyes and wish I could disappear because of the embarrassment she caused. She's such an i***t! I curse her in my mind.
"But I totally didn't remember, you know? I asked her why she threw that rose away," I hear his amusement-filled voice and turn my head to face him, my cheeks red from embarrassment and my eyes glaring at him.
"Don't flatter yourself thinking I would propose to someone like you," I said, hearing my words, his eyes darken and that playful smile disappears from his face.
"What do you mean by 'someone like me'?" he asked, raising his eyebrows. His tone turned cold, making me nervous. I shouldn't have said that to him, but what else could I do when the love of my life was kissing another girl right in front of me, in our classroom?
"I mean, you're like a total player and honestly, I wouldn't even consider proposing to someone who doesn't value anything and goes around flirting with girls," I said in a sassy tone.
I got up and tried to walk away, telling my friend, "Come on, let's get out of here. I don't want to be around him anymore." As I took my first step, I felt him grip my wrist tightly.
I was stunned and turned to face him, still standing in the same spot. I heard him say, "Maybe you'll end up falling for someone like me." He stood up and leaned in close to my ear, whispering, "Or maybe you'll become my secret admirer."
Hearing him say that left me frozen in place. I couldn't understand what he meant. First, he asked if I got him a rose to propose, and now he's saying I'm his secret admirer. Does he actually know who I am, or is he just messing with me? Snapping out of my thoughts, I heard him ask, "What's wrong, Aura?"
Hearing him call my name like that gave me butterflies in my stomach because he used to call me that back in our childhood. But I didn't want to show how much it affected me. I frowned and snapped at him, "Don't call me that."
I let go of his hand, turned to leave, and heard him say, "Why, Aura is beautiful, know," I paused and replied,
"No." As i walked away, what he said next really caught me off guard and got my heart racing.
"It is beautiful aura, you know, when you see someone beautiful or hear someone's name beautiful, you can say beautiful to them," I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
His words sent shivers down my spine because those were my exact words.
I hightailed it out of there as fast as possible, with Elena hot on my heels. Suddenly, she grabbed my hand, spun me around, and asked, "Hey girl, why the rush?"
Startled, I shook my head and nervously replied, "I think he knows me." Her eyes widened at my words.
"How can you be so sure?" she inquired, her gaze filled with curiosity. Caught off guard, I struggled to find an answer. Honestly, I wasn't even sure myself why I had that feeling.
Shaking my head, I mumbled, "Nevermind." Without another word, I turned and continued walking away, with Elena trailing behind me, yelling something like, 'Girl, you can't just leave me hanging like this! Tell me everything!'
In the evening, I was walking home from school when I suddenly felt like someone was following me. It freaked me out because I remembered that scary incident from before.
I looked around, but it was still bright out since it was evening, so I kept walking. Then, I heard footsteps getting closer behind me, which made me panic even more. I picked up my pace, but then I saw him jumping infront of me, and heard his voice.
"It's me Aura and not that drunk guy!" I let out a huge sigh of relief because I didn't even realize I had been holding my breath.
I gave him a suspicious look and decided to walk away, not wanting to get involved with him again after what he did in class. Plus, I know he has a girlfriend now, so it's better to keep my distance.
He stopped me again, standing right in my way, with arm outstretched. With his brows furrowed, he asked, "Why are you running away from me?"
I snapped back, "Because I don't want you anywhere near me." I shoved his hand aside and walked away, but to my annoyance, he continued to walk beside me.
Growing more irritated, I turned towards him and glared while shouting, "Why won't you just leave me alone and go home?"
Hearing me, he suddenly moved closer to my face and said, "Hey, girl, I'm walking towards my house too. Don't think you're so important that I'm following you." I realized that his house was near mine as well.
I stomped my foot in irritation and hurriedly headed home. As I approached my house's main gate, I glanced back and noticed him standing there, watching me from a distance.
I returned his stare and yelled, "Just go home, Liam!" With that, I turned around and walked to the door.
When I stepped inside, I was met with my grandmother's scolding, "Aurora, you're late again."
I made my way to the kitchen and hugged her from behind, saying, "Mimi, I'm only ten minutes behind schedule."
Hearing my words, she turned around with a worried expression and said, "But it felt like an eternity, my Angel. I'm worried about you after that incident, and I don't want anything like that to happen again."
I hugged her tightly once more, attempting to reassure her. Ever since that night she found me in a bad state, she's been more anxious about my safety.
We're all we've got now, since my parents and grandpa passed away in a car accident when I was eight. Luckily, me and my grandma survived. Ever since then, she's been my whole world. She's the sweetest, and we share so much love for each other.
"You, go freshen up real quick, and I'll whip up some snacks for you," she said, pushing me away from the hug.
I started walking towards my room, but then I playfully paused and said, "You know what sounds amazing right now, mini? Some chocolate pancakes!"
I took off my clothes and hopped in the shower. As I closed my eyes, the image of him kissing that girl flashed through my mind. It really stung and I couldn't help but shed a few tears.
My parents and grandparents were the only family I had ever loved, but now that they're gone, my grandma is all I have left. I had never let anyone else into my life besides him and Elena.
I used to adore him because he was the first person to care for me and show me love after my family. But now, seeing him with other women has shattered my heart into a million pieces.
Maybe it's just my destiny to be abandoned by everyone I love.
