I stood, heartbroken
"Elena, I'm feeling really nervous right now," I confessed to my best friend, worried about the outcome. "I feel like I might faint at any moment."
"Hey, why are you so nervous, baby?" she inquired, gently pinching my cheeks with both hands. "Because no one could resist the irresistible proposal from my adorable cutie," As she spoke, she gave me a peck on the cheek.
I sighed and retorted, "Hey, it's not just anyone; it's him, Elena, him." Her eyebrows furrowed upon hearing my words.
"He is not some perfect god, sweetheart. He is merely a teenage boy, and any sane teenage boy would never reject a proposal from my baby," As she spoke, she gave me a peck on the cheek. Hearing her words, I let out a defeated sigh.
But he's not just any other teenage boy to me. He's the love of my life. At first, I thought he was a playboy, but after that incident, my perception of him totally changed. He is not the person he pretends to be. I know he may be a bully to others, but to me, he is my love.
That night had a profound impact on my life.
I was in school that day and when my classes were finally over, I went to my singing class. But guess what? My singing teacher asked me to clean up the whole class before leaving, so I ended up staying late to finish the cleaning.
By the time I was finally done and on my way home, it was already pretty dark, past eight o'clock. As I was walking, I started to sense someone following me. I turned around and, behold, there was this drunk man tailing me. Panic instantly set in, and I started sprinting as fast as I could, all while hearing his footsteps getting closer.
I was just a hair away from reaching my house when that miserable drunk grabbed my arm and forcefully dragged me away from the door.
I yelled for help, but that jerk covered my mouth with his hand and lifted me off the ground. He took me to a secluded spot on the side of the road, hidden by plants. He roughly threw me on the grass and tried to hover over me, but I kneed him where it hurts and pushed him away.
He groaned in pain, clutching himself. I took the opportunity to try and escape, but he grabbed the back of my shirt and forcefully pulled me back, causing it to tear. I ended up falling on my back again. I tried to be all tough and stood up to that jerk, but when he ripped my shirt from behind, I couldn't help but tear up a bit.
I landed on the grass with a thud, and he came back at me, but this time I clenched my teeth and gave him a good punch in the face while shouting, 'get the hell off me, you jerk!' I fought him with all my might, scratching his face and hitting him wherever my fists could land - face, shoulder, neck, you name it. I even managed to kick his legs.
But then that drunk bastard slapped me super hard and suddenly my whole world felt like it was spinning.
He grabbed me and turned me down on the grass in my front, holding my wrists with one hand and trapping my legs with his. I felt so helpless and exposed. I fought back, but then he got all up close to my ear and it made me grossed out when I felt his breath. He said some really disgusting stuff like he was gonna take away my courage or something.
I couldn't stand it when he ripped my shirt apart in my back fully. I tried to be strong, but the tears just started pouring out. It's unimaginable that someone would violate your personal boundaries like this. Like seriously, nobody should have to go through this. It's so messed up that he thinks he can just do whatever he wants. I couldn't stop crying, it was so freaking scary.
When he was trying to unhook my bra, I felt him get forcefully pulled away from me. So, I quickly turned around and slid my back against the wall while clutching my shirt in the front. In the dim lighting, I witnessed someone beating the crap out of that drunken guy until he passed out.
Since it was dark, I couldn't see the person's face clearly. My heart skipped a beat when he started walking towards me, and I finally saw his face. It was him, my childhood crush, my liam.
Seeing him there, I felt so relieved. I held onto my shirt tightly as my tears continued to flow. He stood in front of me, reaching out his hand for me to grab and stand up, but I couldn't bring myself to move.
He frowned as he saw me still sitting there, not budging, and said, 'Girl, if you want that jerk to wake up and try to force you again, then fine. I'll leave.'
With those words, he tried to retract his hand, but I quickly grabbed his wrist with one hand, while still clutching onto my shirt with the other, and said, 'He ripped my shirt.' I could hear him respond, 'Ohh.'
He takes back his hand, starts unbuttoning his shirt, and I gulp nervously. He removes his shirt and offers it to me. I grab it and awkwardly wear it over my ripped shirt. Standing up, wiping my tears, I hear him asking, 'Where is your house?' Stunned, I realize he doesn't know who I am, even though we're in the same class and live on the same street. I tell him the directions, and we both start walking towards my place.
I couldn't help but stare at his bare back as I follow behind him like a lost puppy. My eyes stay fixated, and I gulp, trying to shake away any impure thoughts.
Finally, we both made it to my house and he stopped and turned to me. He said, 'Don't go wandering the streets at night because next time, I won't be there to save you. I've got more important things to do.' I couldn't help but furrow my brows at his nonchalant tone.
Does he really think I willingly roam the streets and offer myself to that drunken jerk? I forced myself to smile tightly and fired back, 'Don't worry, next time I won't let something like this happen. And definitely, I won't bother you when you have more important things to take care of.' Now it was his turn to furrow his brows. Internally, I chuckled and watched him nod his head at me.
'I might leave now,' he told me, and I gave a nod. He began to wander away, but then paused and said without facing me, 'Take care.' I stood there, watching his retreating figure, genuinely smiling and nodding again, even though he couldn't see me...
I snapped back to reality when I felt someone vigorously shaking me. I looked up to see my friend with a slight frown on her face. I shook my head and cleared my throat, saying, "I just zoned out."
She rolled her eyes in response and said, "No surprise there." I couldn't help but chuckle because I knew she was right - every time I think about him, everything else fades away and I start daydreaming about him.
I grabbed her hand and we sprinted to our classroom because we're in the same class. We both go to the same school, but the only difference is that he's here because his dad is one of the trustees, while I got in on a scholarship.
We were rushing to our classroom when I suddenly froze in my tracks, overwhelmed by what I saw. Elena tightly held my hand as tears streamed down my face.
There he was, kissing another girl. It was as if time stood still as he sat on the desk, with her standing between his legs. His one leg wrapped around her thighs, holding onto her waist with both hands. She grabbed his face and kissed him, like they had been starved for ages.
There I stood, heartbroken, watching them kiss each other. He opened his eyes mid-kiss and his gaze locked with mine. We held each other's stare for a moment, but I couldn't bear to stay there any longer.
I turned around and ran away, still feeling his eyes on my back.
