Chapter 4

My alarm started going off at 4 am, I didn’t sleep, I slept maybe 3 hours total my mind would not calm, I was going to need a lot of coffee to see Bennett again today. I go for a light jog to get my mind ready for court, I will be in court most of the day with numerous clients. But his is first I have to see him before anyone else. My fire starts to spark. No Kelly not now. Back upstairs I take a shower and get ready for the day I wear a very tight fitting dress with 4 inch heels to make me appear taller then I already am, I stand at 5’8 with out them. Grab a banana and I’m out the door by 5:35. I love my apartment because I’m so close to the court house and my office, it makes life simpler. Walking through the court house doors at 5:46. “Good morning Ms. Walke” I nod at the security guard who is clearly pining over a look at me. He won’t keep his eyes from me. I feel someone behind me and he makes his presence know . “Good morning princess” he whispers in my ear. Every hair on my body stands up. “Good morning Mr. Dunlap are you prepared?” “I am, don’t be so cold, I won’t tell you again.” I blush because I know exactly what he’s talking about.

We enter the court room, I instructed him not to say anything without me nodding. His wife walks in and I just scowl at her, right behind her is Josh. He has balls. Bennett’s face is blank as he stares at her. What happened to push her to cheat. Is he absent? Married to his work? I don’t even know what he does. Lord I want this man to take me right here over this table. I shake my head getting the thought out of my head. Focus Kelly I moan to myself. We all rise as Judge Jones enters. My day starts, Mr. Dunlap’s case is the most simplest. It was over in 5 minutes. “I’ll bring you the check for your time, when will you be back in office?” “Afternoon” “I’ll see you then” Bennett departed a newly single man, now he will go and we will forget about each other. My day is done at court, as i start walking away from the court house, i hear in the distant “Damn good job today Kelly, meet me in my office at 4:30” it was Mr. Wilson, he was ecstatic i didn’t lose today. I feel like I’m back to normal. I got the swag back, i don’t need him. But in the back of my mind i yearn for him.

Back at the office, i have no work for today. I start replying to emails i have let stack up for a few weeks while i finished all my cases. Most of them invites to benefits, clients asking me to represent them. I reply one by one, then i come across a invite for a benefit tonight, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Dunlap invite you to benefit the children’s hospital. This must just be a coincidence, maybe they’re Bennett’s parents, will he be there? As i feel my cheeks flush i can hear something in the distance “Kelly...Kelly” I look up to see

Bennett just looking at me so aggressively. “Oh, hello Mr. Dunlap, how can i help you today?” I questioned, “How many times do i have to tell you to call me Bennett? Do you just like to defy me? Here is your check, will I be seeing you at my parents tonight? I made sure you were sent an invite.” He ordered. With the biggest gulp “Uh, yeah i was just looking at the invite when you walked in. I’m sorry Bennett i can’t attend i am flying back home in the morning for a birthday.” “I will pick you up at 6, please be ready” He turns to leave “And princess, do not defy me again, or i will have to punish you” As he exits my whole body trembles. Punish me, how would he do that. I want to defy him just to see what he would do.

It’s 4:30 i’m in the office of John Wilson “Kelly i would like you to become a partner, I know you are very smart when it comes to the court room, i think you are ready to take on the big league cases. I know other firms are breathing down your neck.” I am so elated i can hardly contain it. I have been busting my ass to make partner, i have been with the firm for damn near 4 years. I’m glad i was being noticed. “What a wonderful offer Mr. Wilson, i will think on this, will you send me the contract?” “Of course Kelly, with this promotion it also comes with a bigger work load and more pay.” I go to leave the office “Thank you Mr. Wilson for noticing my hard work!” I retreat to my office and beep Sam in, i tell her the good news, you would almost think i got engaged we are hugging and dancing. “I need to go pack for my trip, are you coming with me?” I ask “No, i’m going to stay here with Kenzie, it will be good to have some quality time with her, she just doesn’t understand there is more to life the modeling and why i work so much.” I nod to her response, and am out the door.

I head to my car in the garage, everyone is looking at me as if something was plastered on my back saying “kick me” or something. I just shrug it off. As i unlock the door to my house i hurry quickly to find my suitcase. I undress and get in the shower, my phone is going crazy, “What is going on?” I keep thinking to myself, sure i had random booty calls texting me to see them but, what else. I finish washing, then i get out of the shower, do the usual lotion, skin care, and through my robe on before i retreat to the closet to begin packing for my trip back to Oklahoma, its been almost 5 years since I’ve been home. I don’t like going back there, it always dredges up the past and how poor i use to be, I’m so ashamed of it, no one but Sam knows where i come from.

I am finished packing when i hear banging on my door, not very common since i live on the 20th floor private pent house, you have to have a code to get up here. Sam must have left her key. I go to open the door.
