I yawned after I sat up in bed and looked around my bright room. I was exhausted but the sun woke me up because I forgot to close the blinds. I knew I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep so I got up and slipped some shorts on to go with my big t-shirt I slept in and I walked out of my room. I usually just slept in a t-shirt and underwear but I think that might be a bit under dressed for breakfast with company over. I hopped down the steps and saw that it was seven in the morning and my mother was probably out back doing yoga. The 70s must have been a rough time for my parents because they are kinda crazy. They usually wake up with the sun and meditate for an hour and then do go knows what after that. They’re crazy but they’re happy and I love them so it's okay. I peeked outback to see my mom in a black tank top and the flowy multi colored pants she was wearing last night and she was balancing on her hands while her legs stretched out in front of her. See crazy! What kind of 50 year old can do that with a smile on their face! My father sat on a blanket in front of her in a white loose t-shirt with The Rolling Stones logo on the front and brown flowy pants like my moms. His thick bearded almost blended into his shirt because the hair was turning grey. His grey hair made the red bandanna he had tied around his head stand out. He sat cross legged as he ate out of half a watermelon with a spoon and he talked to my mom as she did her yoga. He was telling a story and he was trying to get it out but he kept laughing and soon my mother began to laugh and her laugher made her topple over into the grass which made them laugh harder. They both held their bellies as their laughter filled the backyard. The sight of the two lovebirds made me giggle and I turned around from the backdoor and I walked into the kitchen. I saw that my mom made a mango smoothie for me and I smiled at how thoughtful she was and I quickly poured myself a cup. I put a straw in my cup and walked out back. I sat in the wicker hanging chair that was filled with cushions which made it the most comfortable thing to sit in. I laid back and looked at nothing in particular and just let my mind relax. "Oh you're up?" I heard the velvety voice and I used my foot to turn the chair towards the door to see Theo standing in the doorway. "And so are you," I said with a cheeky smile and took in his appearance. He must have just woken up because his hair was a mess and his voice was still a little bit groggy. He wore a white t-shirt and black basketball shorts. "Care for some company?" He asked motioning to the identical chair next to me and I shrugged. He walked over running his hand through his hair and sat down. I was confused as to why he would want to hang out with me. I wasn't that fun of company. "Jacks and Maddie are still asleep, they are still on college sleep schedule. They probably won't be up till noon," He said as he looked at the black watch on his wrist. "That's a waste of a day," I mentioned and he shrugged. "They’re doing what they love, sleep. So is it really a waste?" He shot back and I narrowed my eyes playfully and he just shrugged as he used his feet to push the chair in a rocking motion. Silence filled the deck and the only thing making noise was the wicker holding the chair together as we both swung around gently. "How've you been, Sunshine?" Theo asked after a moment and I took a drink of my smoothie thinking of a not lame answer. "I could be better," I said honestly. "This summer has been lonely so far because all my friends are on vacation,"I explained and he nodded,"My parents are usually busy doing whatever hippy things they do," I said trying to lighten the mode and he chuckled. "You're moms surprisingly fantastic at yoga," He laughed and I nodded. "How about you?" "I'm not very flexible but my child's pose is pretty good t-" He began to say by I cut him off with a laugh while I waved my free hand. "No dork, I meant how have you been!" I said and he grinned "Ooh," He said," I've been great," He said simply and I raised an eyebrow. "Staying out of trouble?" I asked with a smirk and he pretended to look shocked as he held a hand up to his chest I giggled,"You may have my mother thinking you're an angel but you don't have me fooled," I said and he scoffed still pretending to be offended. "S'cuse you missy I am a saint!" He said in a sassy tone and I rolled my eyes. "Oh yeah?" I challenge and he nodded matter-of-factly,"Then how come you always snuck my brother pot when we were younger?" I shot back and his smirk dropped and he looked genuinely surprised. "I was a Saint for helping him with his "back problems," He tried and used air quotes that made me laugh. "You’re lucky my child self didn't rat you out," I said but at the age of 9 I had no clue what he was bringing my brother. But he didn't need to know that. "Yeah that would have totally ruined this persona I've built," He said motioning to himself and my eyes followed his hand that waved over his body. "Yeah we can't have my mom knowing how much of a bad boy you really are," I teased as I stood up and I stuck my tongue at him before I walked back over to the door. I glanced back at him before I opened the door and he was just smiling at me softly and I shyly smiled back before I disappeared inside.
