Chapter 10

1308 Words
Kason rolls up his sleeve and holds out his wrist. Sabrina bites into Kason’s wrist without a second to lose. "I can feel Kason's body tremble as I drink his blood. His breathing becomes shallow and pained. I start crying as I continue to drink his blood." says Sabrina in her mind. Kason sees that Sabrina is crying and smiles weakly. Kason hugs Sabrina as tight as he can with his other arm. "Please don't cry. I'm sorry for making you do this. I told you that I would protect you. Yet, here I am, making you do the unthinkable," Kason says in a pained voice. Sabrina's mind goes black and instinctively bites harder. Sabrina hears Kason scream a little bit but continues to cry. The nurse takes this opportunity to inject Sabrina with the Juniper poison. Sabrina lets go of Kason’s wrist as she falls onto the bed unconscious. Her eyes return to normal and her fangs recede. Kason panics. “Sabrina!” Kason shouts in worry. “Don’t worry. I gave her a sedative. It’s Juniper poison. If used in small amounts, it will temporarily paralyze vampires.” the nurse says as he puts the vile and syringe down on his desk. Kason becomes lightheaded and starts to faint when the school nurse catches him. “As for you, you need a blood transfusion. I know you’re worried about your friend, but she will be fine. She’ll wake up in a few hours. Now sit your butt down on the bed next to your friend and lay down.” states the nurse. “Just don’t die while you have my blood in your system. You’ll become a vampire. My blood will stay in your system for two days.” the nurse says as a matter of fact. Kason looks at the nurse in disbelief. “What!” Kason shouts. “Quiet down! Just go to sleep.” replies the nurse. Kason closes his eyes and slumber overtakes him. Meanwhile, in chemistry class, Jayden is lost in his thoughts. “Could that girl who collapsed earlier be Sabrina? No. It can’t be Sabrina. She looks nothing like her. But that girl knew my name. If that girl is Sabrina, then it’s too late to keep her away from Master.” Jayden thinks. The day goes on until the final school bell rings. Both Sabrina and Kason wake up. Kason is the first to wake up and sit up. The school nurse removes the needle and disposes of it and the tube. “Thank you,” says Kason, slightly smiling at the school nurse. “No problem, kid. I know I said we would talk about who I am, but now is not the right time. Come back at another time.” replies the school nurse. Sabrina starts stirring and sits up. She rubs her sleepy eyes until her vision adjusts. Sabrina looks over to Kason and the school nurse. Memories of what happened earlier come flooding back and she starts crying. Kason hurriedly gets out of bed and rushes to Sabrina’s side. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen.” Sabrina says through her sobs. “Shh! It’s alright. You don’t have to be sorry for anything. I meant what I said earlier. Besides, you’re like a sister to me.” says Kason as he comforts Sabrina. Sabrina wipes away her tears and gets out of bed. “I know you have questions, but go home and rest for now. Make sure you go and hunt in the woods. I injected Juniper poison in you but only a small amount. It won’t kill you.” says the nurse as he sits down in his chair at his desk. “Alright,” replies Sabrina with hesitation in her voice. Sabrina and Kason walk out of the nurse’s office and head home. They go their separate ways once they are near Sabrina’s house in their view. Kason leaves and Sabrina walks into her house. Kason goes home and Sabrina locks herself in her bedroom, thinking about how she almost lost control. Sabrina silently cries in her bedroom. “Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! I screwed up! How could I lose control like that?” Sabrina says to herself through her sobs. Turaya decides to intervene. She knows how Sabrina can be when she bottles up her feelings like this. “Sabrina, my sweet, please calm yourself. If you keep bottling up your feelings, you will end up destroying a portion of the woods and go into another depression.” Turaya says as she tries to calm Sabrina down. “How can you tell me to calm down right now, Turaya? I drank Kason’s blood. His blood tasted so good. It’s not like anything I have tasted before. I’m scared, Turaya. What if I lose control again?” Sabrina asks as she remembers the taste of Kason’s blood. Turaya becomes irritated, but only because Sabrina is her little sister, and she has to snap Sabrina out of this breakdown before she goes mad. “Sabrina Abrams! Get a grip! Stop acting like a child and think about the people around you. Think about what your family went through the last time you fell into a depression. You almost switched off your humanity. You closed off your heart and wouldn’t let anyone in. Think of how scared Leo, Jesse, and Lunette were. I know that you won’t let that happen again. So, please, stop this nonsense!” Turaya shouts. Sabrina thinks about how she almost switched off her humanity again. She never wants to see the sad and scared expressions on her brothers and sister's faces ever again. Brett was there by her side every step of the way, just as he had been when they first met. Sabrina takes a few deep breaths and wipes away her tears. A smile forms on her lips. “Thank you, Turaya. I needed to hear that. Anyway, that school nurse knew about Juniper poison. Do you think I can trust him?” Sabrina asks. “I believe he would do no such harm. Juniper poison is lethal to vampires and people who hunt our kind use it. Even though he had the chance to kill you right then and there, he never did such a thing. I can tell he cares about humans and supernatural beings alike. I think you should give him the benefit of the doubt.” replies Turaya. “I see. Maybe I should give him a chance,” replies Sabrina. Suddenly, some of the numbness from the Juniper poison is starting to ease up. “At least the numbness is starting to ease up. After a nice hot bath, I’ll sketch in my sketchbook.” Sabrina says to herself. Sabrina makes her way to the bathroom and turns on the hot water in the bathtub. Once filled with water, Sabrina turns off the water and slips into the bathtub after stripping her clothes. An hour later, Sabrina gets out of the bathtub and drains the water. She changes into some pajamas and covers up in her blanket in her bed. Meanwhile, the school nurse lies on the couch with his arm over his face. A girl with silver hair that cascades down to her butt strides over to the school nurse. She looks at his expression and sighs. “What happened? Don’t you dare lie to me.” asks the girl. “I used Juniper poison on a vampire today. It was a girl who ran out of her blood supply. I was amazed by her restraint for human blood. I’m glad she didn’t go mad.” Elias replies as he uncovers his face. He looks over to the girl as rays of moonlight make her hair and fair skin shine like stars.
