Blurb

One night. One kiss. One decision that would change everything.Megan Thompson never expected that a simple New Year celebration would introduce her to the kind of love people only dream about. Jason was charming, intense, and unexpectedly gentle — the kind of man who made her feel seen in ways she never had before. But Jason didn’t come without history.A broken engagement.A jealous ex who refuses to let go.And secrets that refuse to stay buried. What begins as a breathtaking romance quickly spirals into something far darker. Obsession replaces heartbreak. Jealousy turns violent. And Megan becomes the center of a storm she never saw coming. When she is kidn*pped and shot in a twisted act of revenge, love is no longer just butterflies and stolen glances — it becomes survival. As the New Year approaches, friendships are tested, loyalties are questioned, and Megan must decide whether love is worth the danger that follows it.

PROLOGUE --- THE FIRST SHADOW
Snow fell softly that night. Silent. Cold. Beautiful in the way danger sometimes is. A black van rolled slowly down the empty road at the edge of Green Hill, its headlights dimmed, its engine barely whispering. Inside sat a man known only as The Shadow—a name given to him by those who feared him, and whispered by those who wished they didn’t know he existed. He watched the Thompson residence from a distance, fingers drumming against the steering wheel, eyes sharp as winter steel. Lights glowed warmly inside the house. Laughter drifted faintly through the frosted windows. A family. Friends. Joy. Things he had long stopped believing in. His phone buzzed. A single message: “Is the girl still protected?” The Shadow smirked. He typed back: “Not for long.” He turned off the engine and leaned back, his mind drifting briefly—to the vow he made years ago. The vow that pulled him into darkness. The vow that led him here, watching a home that radiated the very light he’d sworn to destroy. Another message lit his screen: “Do not fail. The debt remains.” His jaw tightened. Failure was not an option. Not when so many secrets lay buried under the surface—secrets about families intertwined, promises broken, and a past that refused to stay dead. He glanced once more at the golden-lit windows, where Megan’s silhouette passed briefly behind a curtain, laughing at something Evelyn said. So innocent. So unaware. The Shadow whispered to himself: “Enjoy your peace tonight, little one. When the clock strikes midnight… your world will change.” He reached for his mask. The same mask that would terrify the town weeks later. The same mask that would haunt Megan’s nightmares. The same mask that would expose truths meant to stay hidden forever. He slipped it over his face. Outside, the snow continued to fall. Inside, the families prepared joyfully for Christmas Eve. And far away, destiny stirred— its first rumblings quiet as snowfall, yet powerful enough to shatter everything once the shadows returned.
