The next day came faster than she had ever expected it to.
It was not raining anymore and Alaric wanted to be on their way as quickly as possible.
“Thank you for offering us your home.” He said sternly to her father. “But we are going to be on our way now.”
Her father nodded. “Of course. We do expect you to come and visit us back home in England.”
“I highly doubt it.” Alaric said through a very scary grin.
Her father’s face became stiff and whatever he wanted to say, he kept it to himself.
“You must write to us.” Genevieve said to Deni.
“Do they send letter in Scotland?” Jade asked.
“Of course they do.” Elena said.
“Another question is can they read and write?” Lana asked.
Deni shook her head at her sister’s irrelevant chatter.
“I’m quite sure they do write letters.” Deni’s face was grim. “I would write to all of you.
She hugged her sisters and then she kissed her father before turning to Alaric and his men.
They were all on their horses already waiting for her, while Angel stood with Louis the stables boy waiting for her.
Deni spoke to Angel sweetly before she mounted her.
Then she held her reigns and she turned to wave to her family.
Alaric walked ahead with his horse and his men waited indicating that she join him ahead.
Alaric on his own part was in a very swell mood, he was going back to his hometown today.
After spending two nights on English soil, he was finally going home.
He looked back and saw that his wife was looking solemn as she rode her horse.
There was something about Deni. She was only a woman yes, but she snapped at him.
She proved to be stubborn to him. He was puzzled by her attitude and he most certainly liked a challenge.
This new wife was his was going to be very interesting.
She had a sharp mouth and she was so proud that she assumed the world evolved around her.
Well last night had just been the beginning.
How he had made her come in and scrub him while he was in the bath.
He was certain that she would have fainted if she had remained inside the room.
Especially when he had shocked her by rising to his full height and showcasing his manhood to her.
He smiled naughtily as he thought of that.
Then he realised that she was far away from him.
She was in between Walter and Hugh. He wanted her beside him.
“Wife.” He called out to her.
She shot her head up.
“Come and Ride beside me.” He ordered.
He heard her clear her throat and say. “Thank you very much for your offer but I am afraid that I would have to decline.”
“And why is that?” He said smiling to himself.
He knew that she was going to decline. He had been expecting it.
He was not so irritated with her ability to argue everything anymore. He was just merely amused.
In fact he entertained it.
“Nothing.” She said. “I assure you that I am safe with your men.”
“Is it perhaps that you wish to avoid me and you refuse on admitting it?” He asked her knowing that was the real reason why.
In fact, he also knew that she had been avoiding him all day.
In the Morning before they had left, she had been hasty and seemed to disappear every single time he appeared. She would leave whatever she was doing and say something to whoever was present and disappear.
It was all because of the incident last night.
“Of course not.” She said quickly. “Your stride is too hasty for me and I would never be able to keep up.”
“Well perhaps you would take no mind to our conversation being spoken aloud.” He said.
“What conversation do you speak off?” She asked with very sudden and apparent interest.
Then he started. “Last night when you brought in the water for my bath-
He heard horses gallop and he turned and saw that Deni was already by his side.
Her face was absolutely red.
“Why did you come?” He asked sarcastically. “I thought I was too fast for you.”
“I believe I can maintain your stride now thank you.” She said and pretended not to be blushing.
She was lying. It was obvious. He knew that she had come to him quickly because she had been aware of what he was about to say and her shame would not let him say it in front of his men to hear.
He wanted to laugh at her. But he was a firm Alpha and leader.
He could not let his men see that a woman was turning his frown into not just a smile, but a laugh.
He retained his composure.
“Did last night interest you?” He asked her.
Her head was downward in the horse’s neck.
“Should I speak louder?” He asked her.
“Good God no!” She yelled.
“Then answer me. Did last night interest you?” He asked.
He would have sworn that her redness would not get any brighter, but he was in it for a shock.
Deni’s face had become an apple.
Then she kept her chin up and said. “I have no idea what interest you speak of. All I did was send for your bathing water just like I would have done for any other guest.”
“You did not do it for my men.” He said.
“I would not have done it for you had my father not told me to.” She said. “I would only assist in such duties for Princes and Dukes.”
He felt a sharp fling of jealousy through his chest.
Then he smiled. “But did you see their manhood as you had seen mine?”
At that moment he thought she was going to burst.
“Why do you insist on torturing me?” She asked. “Does it perhaps please you to shame me?”
“Very much in fact.” He admitted. “It shows that despite how stubborn you are, well you can be subdued.”
Before she could speak, he spoke.
“You are like a goat.” He said.
“I beg your pardon?!” She said in alarm. “
“You will not interrupt our Lord while he speaks!” One of the men said.
Alaric did not need to turn, it was Luke.
Before he could chastise Luke, Deni did so herself.
“And May I not speak to my husband as a wife should?” She asked Luke.
Luke became tight lipped and Deni turned to face her front.
“You were saying that I was like a goat?” She repeated with a frown.
Ah so she had not forgotten.
“Yes, a goat.”
“Why on earth would you even compare me to a goat?” She asked him in horror.
“Goats are extremely stubborn. They do exactly what they want to do, even though what their owners are trying to do for them, is for nothing but their very own good.”
“But if you can show the goat who is very much in charge.” He said. “Then the goat would begin to respect you. Despite how stubborn it is.”
She pouted. “I do not think I take being likened to a goat quite kindly.”
“Take it as a complement. I could have called you a sheep.” He said.
He was goading her, playing with her he realised.
He had been doing it for a while now that he was horrified by his own actions.
“Well the goat in my home never relent even until they die. That is to tell you that even if I were to be a goat, you would most certainly not be able to deter me from whatever actions I wish to embark on.” She said.
“Forget England. Scotland is your new home.” He said.
“But I would be able to visit yes?” She said in hope. “And my family too could visit me.”
He said nothing to that.
He had no intentions of making any false promises.
She was quiet for a while and he assumed that he had finally acquired peace.
“How many days is it to Scotland?” She asked him.
He shrugged. “It depends on our movement. If you do not slow us down. We could get there in less than a week.”
“Less than a week?!” She yelled. “What shall I be doing in a dusty road with over ten men for close to seven days?”
He winked at her. “Don’t worry. You’re going to get used to it.”
