Alaric’s point of view
Alaric rushed from where he had heard her scream and pulled out his sword.
“Demi!”
But there was no answer.
Why had she gone off on her own?
Why had the bloody English woman refused to listen to him and God knew where was.
He tore through the forest and then he came to an abrupt halt when he saw that Deni was being held captive.
A large man with a different plaid held her with a knife to her throat and a number of his men stood by him.
He knew them.
They were Allies of his enemy pack.
Then he looked down and saw Bard lying down on the floor. He seemed to be in bad shape and he wondered if he was still alive .
“You don’t want to fight with me.” Alaric told the man holding Deni hostage.
“Oh but Of course I do.” He said. “I am going to be the one to kill you myself and this little British slave.”
“I am not a Slave I’m a young woman and it is highly inappropriate for you to treat me in such a manner.” Deni snapped.
What the hell was wrong with her? Even in distress she was still causing such a ruckus?
He put his finger on his lips indicating that she keep quiet.
She pouted but she obeyed him.
He looked down at his feet and he saw Bard, he wondered if he was dead.
Prayed that he wasn’t.
So that was what had delayed bard from returning to them.
He looked back at the man who was holding Deni hostage, and this time he was beyond words furious.
No one had a right to touch of any of his men.
If they touched his men, they touched him.
“What did you do to him?” Alaric demanded.
The man gave a mean smile and pushed his feet over bard’s body.
“Him? Caught him snooping around so I had to put him down.” The man said.
“I won’t ask you again.” Alaric pointed out. “Let her go. And it would be a painless death.”
“Alaric, Alpha of the west Isles. Wait and see. I’ll be the one to have your head.” The man spat.
Within the blink of an eye, Alaric was on the man and he pushed Deni away.
Soon other men came, but they turned to wolves.
Alaric used his arm and punched the Assailant’s eye and it bled.
He screamed aloud.
Alaric pushed his body off.
Deni was by his side.
“Deni what are you still doing here?” He demanded sharply. “It’s not safe for you here.”
She was bent over Bard.
“He is still breathing.” She said. “Let’s take him away.”
At that moment one of the wolves jumped an attacked him, but he used the strength of his arm and hit the wolf so much it yelped and hit a rock, dying instantly.
“There is nothing you can do to him! He is already dead. I will handle it now go!” He snapped at her.
Four wolves lunged at them and he pulled out his sword and fought them off.
“You can’t condemn him.” She said.
At that moment, a wolf came up behind her and he had to push her behind him and put his sword right through him.
“You’re distracting me!” He snapped at her.
“I’m not going without him!” She said.
Alaric was furious.
He wanted to strangle the woman at that very moment.
“Why don’t you just do what you’re told to?” He demanded.
She frowned and pursed her lips. “This is about life and death.”
“The man is already dead!” He snapped. “If we take him now it’s going to slow us down. Just go and I’ll bring his body. Just go!”
“Do you not understand? If I do not help him now? He will die. He is still alive. Every single minute that we spend is precious.” She said.
He looked at her annoyed as hell.
He wanted to swear and curse in Scottish and have their gods shut her mouth.
She refused to budge.
“Why can you not be like a Scottish woman and respect her husband when he orders her on what to do.” He demanded.
“I’m not Scottish, I’m English.” She said. “And if you think that I will be like the women you’re used to, then dear Alpha you have it all wrong.”
She riled him up. Made his blood boil. A woman should be obedient and never for once question her husband.
But for Deni, it wasn’t to be so.
He knew it. She was not going to stop.
“Fine.” He said eventually.
He picked up Bard, but the man was equally very heavy.
She reached for his sword.
“What the bloody hell do you think you are doing?” He asked confused.
“I want to help you in case someone else comes along.” She said.
He eyed her, held unto his sword.
“If you want to help, shut that mouth of yours and move ahead.” He said pushing her ahead.
And soon they began to run up.
There were sounds of more wolves coming behind, but they had to keep on going until they were at least in the open and the other men were present.
They finally made it and then the other of his men were able to attack the other wolves.
He put down Bard’s body and Deni quickly went down to him.
“Rogue packs.” Alaric said to the men.
She put her ear down to his body and looked back up at them.
“He is still breathing. We can still save him.”
