The ride

VANESSA SUMMERS Zoey stared into the car as she pressed her face against the glass. I wasn't sure she could see me but I noticed Mr. Phineas get tense. He was probably terrified being. Why wouldn't he be? He had driven me through this god awful district and now to him there was a strange woman peering into his car. "She's my friend." I said seeing his tense expression. "She's completely harmless." I said. Except when she's trying to get into you pants. That's when she turns into a maniac. "Oh." He said. "I think that makes whatever she's doing less weird." Nope... It doesn't. I watched as he tried to absorb this new piece of information. It took a while but eventually his face relaxed. Zoey refused to move away or bulge from her insanely suspicious position. Mr. Phineas and I had gotten so close to crossing a line we could never get back from. It felt as if our bodies had been moving against our will. "I think I should get off and pull her away. She looks like she's ready to stay there for hours without breaking a sweat." I said with a nervous smile. "Thanks for the ride." He smiled too but I suspected he was a little disappointed we hadn't crossed the line. Why should he? I was imagining it. I got out of the car and pulled Zoey with me. She struggled to get a good look at Mr. Phineas and even waved at him. I had to pull her all the way and only relaxed when we were back in the room. "Who was that?" She asked with glowing eyes. I knew that look. "It's never happening, Zo." I said shaking my head. "Never ever ever." She paced nervously. "He's your new boyfriend!" I flushed. "Noooo! He's just my boss." I tried to hide my inflamed cheeks but her eyes were too fast. She watched me intently and smirked when she saw the way I'd reacted. I'd played right into her hands. "Why does your boss look like he was created to torment every damn woman alive? He looks so f*****g hot." I know! But I'm not about to fall deeper into the hole by admitting it. "He's okay, I guess." I said casually. Zoey stared at me as if I'd just read a sentence from a demonic book. Her eyes grew twice their normal size. "You can't be serious. He's amazing! I need to see him again." "No!" It was out before I could stop myself. "No?" Zoey tilted her head at me. "I mean there's no way you'll see him. It's not like he's giving free rides everyday." I said fumbling a bit. "Shut up." She scoffed. "I'll just make up an excuse to come see you at work and viola. He'll be there." No... No... No... This is not happening. This cannot be happening. Stop her! "What about Cole -" "f**k Cole." She said. "He can drown for all I care." This was a f*****g nightmare. I had to stop her but I had no idea how that was going to be possible without killing the b***h. It seemed like the only solution. Nothing would stop her once she put her mind to it. I couldn't sleep all night. I stayed up thinking of ways I could stop Zoey from doing whatever crazy s**t she had her mind fixed on doing. Her carelessness could very well cost me my job. Mr. Phineas had given me a stern warning when Vela had waltz into his office. Imagine what he'll do when my friend does the same thing the next day. No. I had to stop her. That morning I tried to talk Zoey out of her madness but she didn't bulge. She was convinced she could pull it off. I begged her, pleaded with her, threatened her, then went back to begging. "What's the big deal anyway." She shrugged. "He's just your boss right?" "Right." I said. "Then relax while I work my lady charms." I did everything but relax when I got to my office. My pale sweaty skin were visible signs of the distress ripping me apart within. The sound of the elevator made my heart beat wildly and I would turn to watch the floor numbers ticking away and it was only when it stopped at a floor below that I would breathe once again. I was close to having a heart attack an hour later. Mr. Phineas came in. I almost passed out when the elevator stopped on the top floor but I relaxed when I saw it was my boss. He must have noticed my pale skin or maybe it was the look of fear in my eyes. "Are you okay, Miss Summers?" He asked as he got to my table. The first thing I noticed was how he smelled so good. It sent bolts of electricity moving through my body. His eyes watched me with concern. His marvellous eyes. "I'm fine, sir." I said trying to sound the part. I wasn't fine. Not one bit. He hesitated for a while before going into his office. I left immediately to get his coffee. The whole time I prayed for some miracle. I prayed for some divine intervention to stop Zoey. I got back into the building and hurriedly took the elevation up to my office. I almost dropped the coffee as I got out of the elevator. Zoey was in my office sitting with her legs crossed on my seat. There was another woman more elegantly dressed there. She turned to face me with vicious raging eyes. It was Vela!
