A New Dawn and The Luna's Feast

[Elara’s POV] When I opened my eyes the next morning, for a terrifying fraction of a second, I thought everything had been a dream. I expected to wake up on the hard, freezing floor of the Silver Moon packhouse, with the smell of bleach in my nose and a list of chores waiting for me. But as I blinked against the soft morning light filtering through the massive windows, the reality of my new life washed over me. I was wrapped in silk sheets, sinking into a mattress that felt like a cloud. And the intoxicating scent of pine and dark chocolate was everywhere. I turned my head. Alpha Kael was sitting in a large leather armchair near the fireplace, his long legs stretched out in front of him. He wasn't wearing his heavy winter coat or his formal King's attire. Instead, he wore a simple black t-shirt that clung tightly to his heavily muscled chest and dark sweatpants. He held a leather-bound book in one hand, but his glowing forest-green eyes were fixed entirely on me. "Good morning, my little wolf," his deep, rumbling voice vibrated through the quiet room, sending a wave of delicious warmth straight to my core. "Good morning," I whispered, pulling the blanket up to my chin. "Have you been awake for long?" Kael closed the book and set it on the small table beside him. He stood up and crossed the room with the fluid, silent grace of a apex predator. When he sat on the edge of the bed, the mattress dipped under his massive weight. "I don't sleep much, Elara," he said softly, reaching out to tuck a stray strand of hair behind my ear. His large fingers lingered on my cheek, his thumb tracing my jawline. "Besides, watching you sleep peacefully... knowing you are safe in my territory, under my protection... it brought my beast a kind of peace I haven't felt in over a century." My breath hitched. "A century?" I asked, my eyes widening. A small, incredibly handsome smile played on Kael's lips. "I am an ancient Lycan, Elara. I have ruled the Blood Moon Pack for over a hundred and fifty years. I watched generations of wolves find their mates, live their lives, and pass on. I thought the Moon Goddess had cursed me to rule alone. I thought I was too dark, too violent to be blessed with a mate." He leaned closer, his forehead resting gently against mine. "And then, I found you in the snow. You are the greatest treasure this world has ever kept hidden from me." Tears pricked my eyes, but I blinked them away quickly. I didn't want to cry anymore. "I'm just an Omega, Kael," I whispered, voicing the insecurity that was still clawing at my heart. "I don't know how to fight. I don't know pack politics. I don't know how to be a King's mate." Kael’s eyes flashed a brief, warning crimson. Not at me, but at the words I was using against myself. He grabbed both of my hands, his large palms completely enveloping mine. "Listen to me, Elara, and listen well," he commanded gently. "You are not an Omega. Rank is a man-made concept created by weak Alphas to control those they fear. You were born to be my equal. You were born with the spirit of a survivor. The fact that you endured eighteen years of abuse and still kept your heart pure proves that you are stronger than any warrior in my army." He brought my knuckles to his lips, pressing a firm, burning kiss against my skin. "You don't need to know how to fight, because I will slaughter anything that tries to harm you. You don't need to know politics, because my word is absolute law. All you need to do is be by my side. Can you do that for me?" I looked into his eyes, seeing nothing but raw, unfiltered devotion. My inner wolf howled in absolute joy. "Yes," I whispered. "I can." _____ [Alpha Kael’s POV] The pure, radiant smile that spread across Elara's face hit me harder than a physical blow. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. My beast purred so loudly in my mind that I was sure Elara could hear it through the bond. A soft knock interrupted our moment. "Enter," I commanded, my voice instantly dropping back to the cold, authoritative tone I used for everyone else. The door opened, and Silas, my Beta, stepped inside. He kept his gaze respectfully lowered to the floor, refusing to look directly at my mate while she was in bed—a wise choice if he wanted to keep his eyes. "Alpha. Luna," Silas rumbled respectfully. "Forgive the intrusion. I have a report regarding the Silver Moon Pack." I felt Elara tense slightly beside me at the mention of her old pack. I immediately wrapped a protective arm around her waist, pulling her flush against my side to ground her. "Speak," I ordered. "The tribute has been collected," Silas reported. "Eighty percent of their winter stores are currently being unloaded into our vaults. Richard is complying completely. Furthermore, word has spread across the neighboring territories about what happened to Lucas. The other packs are terrified. No one will dare to breathe in the Luna's direction without permission." "Good," I nodded. "Ensure the borders are heavily patrolled. I want double the guards on the southern perimeter. And Silas?" "Yes, Alpha?" "Prepare the grand hall," I commanded, my voice echoing with finality. "Tonight, we will hold the Luna's Feast. I will formally present Elara to the Moon Goddess and to the entire Blood Moon Pack. It is time she receives the respect she is owed." Silas’s head snapped up slightly, his eyes shining with genuine excitement before he lowered his gaze again. "It will be an honor, Alpha. The pack has been waiting for this night for decades. I will inform the head Omega to begin preparations immediately." With a deep bow, Silas exited the room, leaving us alone once more. I turned back to Elara. She was chewing her bottom lip, a nervous habit I was already memorizing. "A feast?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "For me? But there are thousands of wolves in the Blood Moon Pack." "And every single one of them will bow to you tonight," I promised, brushing my thumb over her worried brow. "Tonight, I will place my mark on your neck, sealing our bond for eternity. And tonight, you will take your rightful place on the throne beside me. Are you ready to meet your people, my Queen?" Elara took a deep breath. The scent of vanilla and rain spiked with a hint of nervous excitement. She sat up straighter, the lingering shadows of the abused Omega finally beginning to melt away, revealing the fierce Luna hiding beneath. "I am ready," she said. And for the first time in a hundred and fifty years, the King of the Blood Moon Pack truly smiled.
