CHAPTER ONE

Meg's POV The beams of sunlight flow through the centre of my closed curtains, with a slight draft drifting in from the small opening in the window. I stretch and yawn, roll over on my bed to look at my clock. 8am, dam I normally wake at 6am to go for a run before breakfast. ‘I thought you could use the day off.’ My wolf Lizzie laughs at my panic. ‘Get up, shower and get dressed! It’s our birthday!’ She jumps around in my head excitedly. ‘I know it is Lizzie; you have been excited for it all week! I don’t see why though, the only thing exciting is that teenagers generally find their wolf on their 18th birthday, I already have you.’ I reply to her as I make my way across the room to my bathroom. ‘Yes, but it is our 18th! We are of age now! I can’t wait!’ She continued to jump around like an excited puppy. ‘Lizzie, nothing will be different, I’m excited for graduation next week, that’s what I am looking forward to.’ I told her as turned on the shower to warm up. ‘You never know though! We may have some surprises coming our way today! You especially!’ She sounded like she knew something was going to happen. ‘Well, if you have arranged a surprise party with Jenny then you can tell her no! I don’t like party’s, Daisy knows that!’ I scowled at her. Lizzie and Jenny are best friends just like Jennys human, Daisy and I are. They do runs together every morning, ever since Daisy got her wolf last year. Daisy is Gregory and Tabitha’s daughter; Greg is Alpha Williams, Beta to the Jewel Diamond pack. I am under Alpha William’s guardianship whilst I have attended a college near to his pack for the last three years. My home pack is Purple Star and my sister is the Alpha-Luna there, along with her husband Alpha John. I imagine multiple scenarios in the shower as to what the wolfs could have arranged and I really hoped I wasn’t going to walk into the breakfast hall to all the packs being there, or that there wasn’t a surprise party tonight. I hated being in crowds and love my own space. I often go off to sit by the river or the lake and read a book, or just run by myself around the borderline. A party or a big gathering of family wasn’t really something I wanted, but I knew if it had been arranged, I would have to act alright with it. My family are close and it is ever growing, so an 18th birthday would be a huge excuse for everyone to get together. I’m just nervous that it’s my 18th and therefore everyone’s attention will be on me. When I climb out of the shower, I wrap my towel around and go to my walk-in wardrobe, to choose an outfit for the day. A knock taps out on my bedroom door quickly and then it bangs open against the wall and in runs Daisy, my best friend, who is always bursting with energy. “Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday Meg, happy birthday to you! YAY!!” She squeals and dives at me, pulling me into a tight hug. “I have the perfect outfit for you today!” She says excited passing me a gift bag. “And! Don’t put on any shoes just your slippers! Oh, I think I’ve said too much!” “Calm down Daisy!” I laugh and ensure my towel is still covering me. “You nearly took my towel off!” “Oh well, it’s not like I haven’t got the same!” She laughed and went back to the door to close it. A smell from the hallway hit me, blueberries and caramel. It smelled so fresh and I loved it! “Mmmm … Is Tabby making muffins?” I ask Daisy as I open the gift bag. “She made a batch last night, but I can’t smell them here?” Daisy looked at me and finished closing the door. Tabby is Daisy’s mother and she makes the best muffins I have ever tasted, the blueberries are so fresh and the caramel perfect, along with chocolate chips they make for tasty snacks. “Thank you Daisy, I love it!” I told her as I pulled a shirt out of the bag. It was deep green, almost black, with a waterfall picture on the shoulder leading down the front of the shirt was the water blending out near the bottom. Daisy knew I love waterfalls, I only wear black leggings, so a top to go with them was perfect. I am known for looking like I am wearing the same outfit, I have hundreds of black leggings, black hoodies and black socks to go with my black boots and black trainers. I’ve never been a girly girl who likes make-up, I don’t fuss over making myself stand out. “You are welcome, now can I please put a little tiny bit of lipstick or eye shadow on you? Or even a bit of foundation?” She sighed, she was a girly girl! “You already know that answer Daisy.” I laughed and went into the bathroom to get dressed. “Ok, well let me do your hair different? Something different and special for your birthday?” She called through the bathroom door. “No Daisy.” I had to give it to her, no matter how many times I told her no, she always kept trying to get me allow her to do make overs. “Or your nails!” She calls through as I ignore her, now brushing my teeth.
