Meg’s POV:
After opening a mound of presents and thanking everyone I noticed there wasn’t a present from William, I didn’t say anything though because I didn’t want anyone else catching onto my crush on him, like Daisy had two months ago.
I had been missing him terribly and sulking around, Daisy finally snapped and had a go at me to tell her what was wrong or she would get my ‘dads’ to come. The only thing I didn’t talk to them about was this, how could I? He was a man, an Alpha and one of their friends. I couldn’t explain to them the intense crush I had on him, everyone would have laughed at me. I ended up telling her everything, we sat on my bed and after an hour or so of chatting to her about my crush, crying because I felt stupid for having a crush on the Alpha and making her promise to take the secret to her grave. We fell asleep exhausted and she stayed with me every night since then, keeping me busy, watching films, girly chats and she never said or did anything in public about my crush.
That’s what best friends do, they have each other’s back and whilst I’ve never been one to have friends, Daisy was the exception. She used to be a lot like me when I first arrived at Jewel Diamond, she was quiet and content in her own company too. Of course, with going to college she developed more confidence, but I followed in her shadow always trying not to draw too much attention to myself. We went to the odd parties, but boys trying to hit on me, gave me a wide berth after Lizzie grabbed one and threw him at a tree for attempting to kiss us. Ever since then boys avoided me, which is a good thing, because I’ve never been attracted to anyone else.
Xander led me to my bedroom with Daisy, Ellie, Katie and Chloe following, bringing the gifts I had received. My cards stayed in the lounge on the shelves on display, just as anybody’s celebration cards did in the pack for three days. Ellie put some bags on my bed and went to my closet, bringing back my training wear.
“You will need to wear these today.” She said as she dropped them on the bed and ushered Xander and the girls back out.
“Meg, I want to give you something. I know you don’t wear jewellery, but I really think you will love this.” Ellie smiled as she walked towards a bag I hadn’t seen when I opened the gifts.
“Ellie, you didn’t need too.” I smiled and sat down on the bed opening the gift.
Ellie sat next to me and put her arms around my waist. I opened a jewellery box and saw my mothers carved bracelet that my father made her when they were courting. She always kept it in the safe and got it out for special occasions.
“Ellie, I’ve always loved this, dad made it himself.” I smiled as I wiped a stray tear away.
“I know, that’s why I know they would want you to have it for this special occasion.” She pulled me into a tighter hug, tears running down her face.
“Thank you, Ellie, I will treasure it and keep it safe.” I walked over to my own safe, behind a mirror on my wall and opened it, placing the box inside.
“Get changed, we are about to have a really interesting fun day.” She laughed and walked out the room.
I quickly got changed and put on my trainers, Tabby and Greg had brought me some lovely new boots, which is why Daisy wanted me to wear my slippers, but I didn’t want to wear them in training gear and risk ruining them on the day I received them.
When I got to the bottom of the stairs, Xander was smiling in the front doorway and grabbed my hand again. He pulled me to the training ground excitedly and my mouth hit the floor when I saw the preparation he must have put into it.
There were rows chairs from the main hall stationed around the outside of the centre sand ring, where larger groups train. Happy birthday banners on pole dotted around behind them with balloons added to the end chairs of each row. The indoor training centre had the doors wide open and I could smell that food was being prepared inside. There was a huge board at the entrance to the sand ring and lists of names arranged into a tournament style layout.
There were practise weapons stationed around the ring, they didn’t have sharp blades but foam with red chalk on the end of them so you could see if you had struck your opponent. The weapons were all mimics of real ones we would take into battle, silver daggers, wolfsbane bomb bottles – which really had water in them for practise and gloves everyone wore that would account for claws if the persons fingertips touched someone they would have blue chalk left on them showing that’s where claws would have ripped them.
All the teenagers from the pack were there, along with teenagers from Purple Star, Red Moon and Firing Sun. Some had their wolf, some were of age, there was a whole variety abilities and so the board set them out into groups for their abilities and wolf or wolf-less.
John, Beta Greg – Daisys dad, Charles, and Alpha David from Firing Sun, were all sat at the exit to the arena all sporting different colours. John had a purple banner, Greg a green banner, Charles a red banner and David an Orange banner.
As I got closer, I could see they each had their crests on representing their packs, the board also had each person’s name written in their pack colour. In huge writing at the top it said “FRIENDLY! TOURNAMENT!”. I laugh knowing Xander had to emphasise that point because he was dealing with Alpha’s and their pride.
I am sent to the chairs where Daisy is sitting and given a green bib to put on over my top and I watched, as Ellie stepped in to the middle of the sand ring.
“Good morning, everyone!” She called out, then I saw that people were standing all around the training area, spectators had come to watch my birthday tournament. “Thank you Jewel Diamond for hosting my sister Meg’s 18th birthday, of course she is now apart of your pack too. As you know we are a family of close friends and packs, later this afternoon we will be greeting Ash Storm Black Lotus, Grey Claw and Crystal Moon, to join us in a second part to this tournament. This morning is to define the first four groups category winners, who tonight will then take on the winners from this afternoons tournament. If you get confused, see Xander he has the charts with everyone’s ranking on. But do not worry if you loose a match, this is an excellent opportunity to be advised and helped my your pack leaders in areas you can train more on at home. This is a FRIENDLY TOURNAMENT! ALPHA’S! AND BETA!” She added and everyone laughed at the four men who were now sat proudly in front in the centre of the first row of their groups. “Unfortunately Alpha William has been kept away on some important business, but he will be hearing how everything is proceeding here throughout the day. So beware Jewel Diamond, he is watching.” She laughed and everyone else joined in. “Now the main aim for today! Listen to Gammar Xander here and enjoy yourselves! It’s a celebration! And with that said I’m going to hand you over to Gammar Xander now!” She smiled and walked away to the spectators area where Hollie, Aria, Max and the younger kids all sat with coloured flags spinning in their hands.
“Well thank you Luna Ellie! Although before I call up the first competitors and give you the rules, there is one thing Luna Ellie missed!” Xander looked directly at me and a huge smile appeared on his face.
‘Oh no! Lizzie run!’ I cried to my wolf.
‘Relax, it will be over soon.’ She was rolling around laughing at me.
“After three everyone! One, Two, Three … HAPPY BIRTHDAY …” He started and everyone else joined in, I buried my head in my hands and felt the burning on my cheeks.
‘How embarrassing! Beta please stop him!’ I cried to Greg through the mind link, who boomed out a laughter at me
‘Not a chance!’
