Chapter 16 — The Creature That Called Her Mother
Seraphina couldn't breathe.
The creature stood beneath the trees, watching her with glowing silver eyes.
It was neither human nor wolf.
Its body was covered in dark fur, but its face was almost human. Strange silver markings covered its chest, forming the same crescent symbol that burned beneath Seraphina's collarbone.
It looked at her again.
“Mother.”
Seraphina stepped backward.
“I don't know you.”
The creature tilted its head.
“You don't remember me.”
Lucian moved in front of Seraphina.
“Whatever you are, stay away from her.”
The creature's eyes moved to him.
“You killed her.”
Lucian froze.
Seraphina looked at him.
“What?”
The creature continued.
“You killed her three times.”
