Mays life had always been different than most girls her age, while most girls were going to high school dances or getting their permits, May was working 2 part time jobs, While other girls were preparing for their junior prom May was turning in her accelerated learning packets.

Sure May was never the brightest student, or the most punctual, and yeah she wasn’t the most social or fun girl her age, but May was the most hard working.

See May had a plan.

She’d work as many hours and save as much money as she possibly could before graduating, and then she be gone. Away from her pill popping narcissist of a mother and her tragically all to familiar lower class american home life.

That was the plan anyways.

00. Prologue
00. Prologue • • Mays life had always been different than most girls her age, She first noticed the difference between herself and the girls she went to school with in elementary school, they were all so pretty with their done up hair and nice new clothes, and they were all free to live wonderful happy childhoods. Even as children they were bubbly and excited about life and all the joys that came with being a child. May never had that luxury. She realized she wasn’t like those girls because her family wasn’t like the families those girls had. But that was only the beginning. What May came to realize very early in life was that it wasn’t the superficial differences that made her compare herself to those around her, like their hair or shoes, or pretty backpacks. It was that they were loved. Truly loved, by a mother that was devoted to them. For that May was truly jealous. For her mom would never be that kind of mother, her mother was the kinda that blamed and hated May. Growing up May heard ‘I should’ve never had you’ and ‘you’re the blame for all of this s**t’ more than she ever heard an I love you. Her mother was in simple terms a high functioning addict. Sure she got all her pills from legitimate doctors for semi legitimate reasons, but she was an addict. If she wasn’t taking too many and passing out on the couch slumped over like a sack of potatoes, she was taking to many and waking May up at 2 am to scrub the floor board or clean out the fridge. Growing up thing never changed but May adapted, it was after all her specialty, that and her dedication, dedication to her gaols. And so while most girls were going to high school dances or getting their permits, May was working 2 part time jobs. While other girls were preparing for their junior prom May was turning in her accelerated learning packets. Sure May was never the brightest student, or the most punctual, and yeah she wasn’t the most social or fun girl her age, but May was the definition of a hard working young adult. See May had a plan. She’d work as many hours and save as much money as she possibly could before graduating, and then she be gone. Maybe she’d attend college in Europe? Or run away and become an actress or maybe a chef? That part of the plan was still a work in progress. But she knew no matter what her future held, it wouldn’t be in this town! May was getting out, getting away. Away from her pill popping narcissist of a mother and her tragically all to familiar lower class american home life. That was the plan anyways. In the real world though? Things never go as planned. • •
