Iris West’s POV.
“Iris…”
I could hear my name being called but it sounded so far away. I could not see anyone or anything around me. Everywhere was pitch black.
“Iris, can you hear me?”
I could hear the voice but this time, it sounded further away. I tried to respond but no sound left my lips as I opened my mouth to speak.
“Give me a sign if you can hear me.” the voice spoke again.
I tried to move a joint in my body but I could not feel anything. I looked around me as I stood in this dark, void place. Was I alone? Had I died? As this thought filled my head, a blinding white light shone from a distance.
Finally, a sign of hope, I thought. As I took one step towards the light, I began to fall. Deeper and deeper into darkness. Further and further away from the light, from hope.

My body jerked forward and my eyes shot open, a gasp escaping from my lips. My heart hammered against my ribcage as I struggled to continue breathing. I squinted, trying to adjust my eyes to the bright colours in the room and the rays peeking in from the window blinds.
Reaching for the glass of water on the bedside drawer, I gulped it down at once. My heartbeat seemed to calm down while breathing became much easier.
I shot my eyes and leaned against the headboard, taking in a deep breath.
“Finally you're awake.” a strangely familiar voice said from beside me.
My eyes flew open once more and I caught sight of a short, plump man in his mid fifties. He had great hair with a few bald spots on his head. His brown orbs intently swept over my face and I stared back at him, not uttering a word.
“Loss of speech is not an uncommon signature.” he said, still looking at me. “Don't worry, it will only last for a few hours.”
My eyes trailed from his face to his worn out stethoscope hanging loosely on his neck. He must certainly be a doctor.
“I can talk.” I said, my voice sounded so hoarse that I could feel a burning sensation at the back of my throat.
“Here” he said, handing me a refilled glass of water. “I'm Doctor Schwann”
I wiped my mouth on my sleeve and set the glass back on the drawer. I felt a lot better.
“Thanks” I murmured. My eyes scanned my surroundings and I realized in an instant that I did not know where I was. Panic shot through my veins as I shot up from the bed. The sharp pain I felt in my abdomen took my breath away and sent me crashing back on the bed.
“Relax.” doctor Schwann said, immediately rushing to my aid. “Youre safe here, okay? You're in the alpha’s room.”
My whole body went rigid at once. I could not believe my ears. A shiver shook my form.
“No, I can be here.” I said, as I attempted to stand up again. Doctor Schwann placed his hands on my shoulders, keeping me still. He had a confused expression on his face, but I honestly did not expect him to understand.
“Unfortunately, I can not let you leave, ma’am. Not until I've updated the alpha about your condition and that of the baby.”
The baby?! How could I forget?! I looked at my body and took in the sight of my bloody clothes. Oh my God, what happened?
As though reading my thoughts, Doctor Schwann answered, “The baby is not dead, but I can't say it's entirely fine until I run a couple of tests. As for you, you are okay but you will be placed on medication to ensure proper and full recovery.”
I was conflicted on how to feel. In fact, I felt no emotion at all. A thought came to my head.Looking up, I saw doctor Schwann packing up his equipments.
“Can I ask you for a favour?” I croaked out just as he shut his box of equipments.
“Depends on what the favor is, ma’am,” he replied dryly.
I reconsidered my options, there wasn't really much to lose anyway. “Can you not let the alpha know that the child survived?”
I knew what I was asking for was a lot, telling by the shocked expression on the doctor’s face.
“What?!” he shrieked, “do you have any idea how great of an offense what you're asking me to do is? I should lie to the alpha??!”
“Please Sir, please.” I begged, “the alpha would have me dead if he finds out that the child is still alive. He'd also make me kill my mates with my own hands. Please Sir, I don't have many options.” It was a total lie but there wasn't anything else left to do.
“Then what would happen to me when the bump begins to show and he realises I lied to him?” he snapped.
“I’d take care of that part. Please just help me here, I promise nothing would happen to you.”
After what seemed like several hours of Doctor Schwann having an inner battle with himself, he finally agreed and left to see the alpha.
Ms. Felicia came in a few hours late to set the bath for me and handed me a fresh set of clothing. The look of jealousy and hatred was evident on her face but she tried her best to mask it.
After preparing the bath and throwing a few murmured insults my way, she left the room.
Carefully, I stood up and made my way to the bathroom. My legs were still weak but I could manage to walk a little.
The bathroom was the most luxurious room I had ever seen in my life. It was bigger than the servants’ quarters at large. The walls were rich brown and the floor was tiled with cream coloured marble tiles. At the end of the bathroom was a large oval shaped mirror rimmed with a golden frame.
Looking straight into the mirror, my reflection stared right back at me. I didn't belong here. I tore my sight away and hurried towards the bathtub.
Thirty minutes later, properly cleaned and dressed in the new clothes, I stood in front of the dressing mirror in the alpha’s room as I tried to gather my nerves.
Ms. Felicia returned with a tray of food and informed me that the alpha was in a meeting. She took away the blood stained clothes with her as she left the room.
After eating and waiting for an hour for the alpha to return, I decided to get some rest. The side of the bed which I had previously laid on was stained with blood, so I went over to the other side and lay down.
I woke up to the sound of what seemed like an argument. The voices were really loud and were giving me a headache.
“Why is she still here?” a voice, which I immediately realised belonged to the alpha, barked.
“Forgive me sir.” Ms. Felicia responded. “You never gave me orders to send her out. You requested I give her a change of clothes and a meal.”
“Well then,” the alpha seemed more calm, but it was obvious he was still agitated. “I’d be back in fifteen minutes. Get her out before then.”
I could hear his footsteps retreating. Just as he opened the door, he turned his back around to speak. “Burn that filthy bed sheet she's lying on.”
I slowly opened my eyes in a way that wasn't obvious. Alpha Kristen was staring at me from across the room, an unreadable expression on his face.
“Also, ensure she resumes her servant duties immediately.” and with that he shut the door forcefully behind him.
