Chapter 1: Meeting at the Warehouse
The warm rays of the morning sun seeped through the half-open curtains, casting a golden glow across the luxurious hotel room. One bright streak of light landed directly on the naked upper body of the man lying sprawled on the large bed.
Stephen Lopez groaned softly, his eyebrows furrowing in discomfort as the intense sunlight pierced his closed eyelids. He raised a strong hand to shield his eyes, muttering under his breath before slowly pushing himself up into a sitting position.
Even in his drowsy state, Stephen’s physique was impressive. His body was well-toned and athletic, with muscles that were perfectly defined—not overly bulky to appear intimidating, but strong and balanced enough to command attention. His six-pack abs were clearly visible, each ridge sharply aligned as if sculpted by careful dedication. His face possessed an almost unreal handsomeness: a well-chiseled jawline, messy short dark hair that fell casually over his forehead, full red lips, and bright, mesmerizing eyes that usually sparkled with playful charm. However, at that moment, those eyes were clouded with confusion.
As he rubbed his face, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep, his gaze fell on the woman sleeping peacefully beside him. The sheets covered only part of her body. Suddenly, the memories of the previous night flooded back into his mind like a rushing wave.
He had attended an exclusive party after receiving a personal invitation. As was his habit, Stephen had spent the evening flirting with one of the attractive women there. He was known across the city as a billionaire playboy who rarely turned down an opportunity for a thrilling night. Stephen had been with women from all walks of life—high-society heiresses, successful professionals, models, and even those from more ordinary backgrounds. As long as a woman possessed a beautiful face and an alluring figure, he was interested. For him, it was all part of the game.
But now, in the harsh light of morning, the magic had completely vanished. Stephen stared at the woman with clear disgust written across his face. This was his pattern: he never saw the same woman twice. Once the night was over, the attraction disappeared entirely. What had seemed desirable and exciting hours ago now looked unappealing to him.
Without wasting another moment, Stephen rose from the bed and began dressing quickly. He pulled out his checkbook from the inner pocket of his jacket, wrote a substantial amount on a cheque, and placed it neatly on the bedside table. Then, he left the room without a backward glance.
Stephen always made it a point to rent two separate rooms in advance whenever he planned to attend such parties. This habit allowed him to slip away cleanly without disturbing his companion. He headed straight to the second room where his assistant, Trevor, was already waiting patiently outside the door, holding a fresh set of clothes.
Trevor had grown completely accustomed to his boss’s lifestyle over the years. He said nothing as he handed over the clothes and quietly led the way.
Inside the second room, Stephen took a long, thorough shower, scrubbing his body carefully to wash away every trace of the previous night. Only after he felt completely clean did he dress in the new outfit and prepare to leave the hotel.
As he stepped into the bright parking lot, his phone began to ring. Stephen glanced at the screen and let out a deep sigh when he saw the caller’s name. Reluctantly, he answered the call.
“Let me guess,” came a familiar voice filled with playful sarcasm. “You’re at a hotel again, aren’t you?”
Stephen rolled his eyes. “What do you want, Andrew? If you’re only calling to tease me, I can end this conversation right now.”
Andrew laughed lightly on the other end. Andrew had been Stephen’s closest childhood friend for many years. He was also the person who had helped him establish Lopez Enterprises. While Stephen excelled at generating brilliant ideas and solving complex problems, Andrew was exceptional at handling public relations and managing people.
“No, dude, I’m not calling just to mess with you,” Andrew replied, his tone becoming more serious. “Your presence is needed at the warehouse. We have a situation.”
Stephen pinched the bridge of his nose in mild irritation. “Fine. I’m on my way.” He abruptly ended the call before Andrew could say anything else.
Just then, Trevor walked up to him smoothly. “Sir, your car is ready.”
“Good,” Stephen replied. “Take me to the Lopez warehouse.”
Fifteen minutes later, the sleek black car pulled up at the large warehouse facility. Andrew was already standing outside, waiting for him. As Stephen stepped out, Andrew approached with a grin and tried to drape an arm over his friend’s shoulder in greeting.
“Finally, you’re here,” Andrew said.
Stephen quickly shrugged the hand off his shoulder. “What’s going on? Why did you call me here so urgently?”
Andrew’s expression turned grave. “There has been a significant shortage in one of our warehouses. The inventory had already been carefully calculated and logged just two days ago. Now, a large quantity of goods is missing.”
Stephen frowned slightly. “So? I don’t see why this requires my personal attention. Just increase security measures and let the police handle the investigation.”
“You don’t understand the full picture yet,” Andrew said, drawing in a deep breath. “We already contacted the police. They conducted a thorough search but found no clues whatsoever—no signs of forced entry, no fingerprints, and no useful footage from the security cameras. It’s as if the thief left absolutely no trace.”
After hearing the complete details, Stephen’s expression grew serious. He now understood the gravity of the situation. This was not an ordinary theft. The lack of evidence suggested someone highly skilled was behind it.
“Don’t worry,” Stephen said confidently, crossing his arms over his chest. “I will come up with a proper solution to this problem.”
“That’s exactly why I called you,” Andrew replied, looking relieved.
**********
Later that evening, as night blanketed the city, a mysterious black figure moved silently through the shadows once again, sneaking toward the same warehouse.
Meanwhile, at his luxurious penthouse, Stephen had just finished taking a shower. His dark hair was still damp, with a few strands clinging to his forehead, giving him a strikingly different and captivating appearance. He stood topless on the wide balcony, wearing only comfortable trousers that hung low on his hips, exposing his well-chiseled upper body. In one hand, he swirled a glass of fine red wine, his sharp eyes gazing thoughtfully into the darkness beyond.
Suddenly, his gaze sharpened. He caught sight of a black figure darting swiftly past the bushes near the warehouse perimeter before disappearing into the thick shadows.
“Hey!” Stephen shouted loudly, his voice cutting through the quiet night air.
The figure froze for a brief moment, then immediately began moving again, faster this time.
Without hesitation, Stephen set his wine glass down and sprang into action. He leaped over the balcony railing and gave chase, his powerful legs carrying him quickly across the grounds. “Hey! Stop right there!” he yelled, but the intruder showed no intention of slowing down.
Realizing that a direct pursuit might not work, Stephen changed his strategy. He took a different route, cutting through a side path in an attempt to intercept the figure and block their escape.
The black figure eventually slowed down and glanced behind, relieved to see no one still chasing. Just as they began to lower their guard, Stephen burst out from behind a cluster of bushes, launching himself forward.
The mysterious intruder possessed excellent reflexes and managed to dodge the initial attack. A fierce struggle ensued between the two. They tussled on the ground, exchanging quick movements and grappling for dominance. Though the thief was agile and well-trained, Stephen’s superior strength and determination eventually allowed him to overpower his opponent.
Pinning the figure firmly beneath him, Stephen breathed heavily and reached for the black mask covering their face.
“Now, let’s see who you really are,” he muttered.
With one swift motion, he pulled the mask away.
Stephen’s eyes widened in complete shock.
Staring back at him was the face of a beautiful young woman. Her features were strikingly attractive, with sharp, defiant eyes that gleamed with intelligence and determination even in the dim moonlight.
