AFTER MONTHS IN COMA
I woke up to light blinding, invasive. It pierced through my eyelids dragging me into consciousness.
A strong sterile smell,Disinfectant,Bleach.Something sharp that attacked my nose and made my stomach churn.
White walls loomed around me like a prison bars.Machine beeped softly.Tubes.Cold sheets.A needle in my arm.
Panic clawed up my throat.
I tried to sit up.
My body refused.
Weakness gripped me like a chain.Every movement was like a war.
Where am i?
Why can't i move?
What’s happening to me?
And worse
Who am i?......
The question slammed into my skulllike thunder. My mind searched for answers but it was all blank.
Like someone had wiped it all clean.
I wasn’t just in an unfamiliar environment.
I was unfamiliar to myself.
The door slid open with a whisper.A woman entered ,dressed in blue scrubs holding a clipboard and wearing a smile that looked real but distant.
“You are awake,Mrs Black”She said walking up to me
Mrs Black?
The name felt strange,Heavy.
She leaned over to me,checking the IV line adjusting something.I tried to speak, but my throat was parched.
The words stucked between confusion and panic.
She noticed.”Here”She said gently, helping me up.She handed me a glass of water on my trembling hands.”Just sip slowly”
I drank and the coolness soothed my throat but nit my mind.
I was burning with questions that needed immediate answers but my words failed me.
“I’m so glad you are okay” she continued “You are so lucky to be alive”
Alive.
The word hit me.Like i was nearly the opposite
“How long have i been..........like this?”I whispered.Barely gathered my words.
She glanced at the chart, then met my eyes with sympathy.”A month...You were in coma for a month”
A month?
A whole month lost, erased, vanished and still no memory to show for it
“You have had lots of visitors”she added with a gentle smile”Your family has been here everyday especially your husband “
Family?
Husband???
I don't know what scared me more...having a family or not remembering them and a husband!!
The nurse adjusted my pillow and gave me a pill
“You will get better Mrs black.Give it time”She smiled.
That name again Mrs Black
Why did it feel like it belonged to someone else and not me.
I nodded ,more for me and not for her.My gaze drifted down and something caught my eye, flashy.
A ring
A wedding ring.
My breath caught in my throat.
So i am truly married.
I have a husband.
Before i could process my thought. The door opened again.
A man stepped in.
Tall.Expensive suit.His shoes barely made a sound.
Power oozed from him like something undeniable strong. His presence commanded a strong aura.
The nurse straightened, lowering her head slightly
“Mr Black”she greeted with a respectful nod.
My heart thudded in my chest.
Mr.Black
The same name.
I looked at him....really looked.Broad shoulders
Clean cut jaw.Piercing blue eyes that seemed to look straight through me.
He didn't rush over.He was mute.Didn’t speak.
Just stared.
The room grew colder by the second.
Was this my.....husband?
The ring on my finger burned with questions
My mouth opened to ask,but before i could gather my words,he beat me to it.
His voice was low.Clipped.Icy.
“So you finally woke up”
A pause.His eyes narrowed
“Don't expect me to play the devoted husband “
