KATHY’S POV The moment Melissa’s lie left her mouth, time seemed to choke me. For a second, I genuinely thought I had misheard her. I stood there dripping with my mascara smeared, dress clinging to my skin, hair heavy with whatever drink she dumped on me and she stood there looking angelic and harmless, like butter wouldn't melt on her tongue. “She tried to attack me,” Melissa repeated, louder this time.
