KATHY’S POV
I woke up late, long after the sun had risen but the curtains were still shut tight because I couldn’t stand the light anymore. My room was freezing. The air was heavy and stale from how long I’d stayed locked inside it. I lay there staring at the ceiling for a while, listening to the quiet hum of the AC and the faint noises from the big, empty mansion.
Suspension. Ruined reputation.
The words had been echoing in my mind all night, even though I kept trying to push them away. None of it was my fault, of course. Ashley had ruined my life. Ashley had made everything fall apart. Ashley should’ve been in a hospital bed or forgotten by everyone, not shining. Never shining.
It felt like every time I would try to bring her down, she’d only rise higher.
