Chapter Three The alarm blares over the city, and I close my eyes, trying to come to terms with what's happening. "Chloe?" Oscar calls. "What do we do?" "Turn the TV on," I say as I walk into the living room. "What happens if we don't?" he whispers. I shake my head. "I don't know. But it's not worth finding out." As far as I know, the government has no way of knowing whether or not the TV is turned on, but when it comes to mandatory viewing, sometimes it's easier to comply than to contemplate the alternative. "We can go to the other room and not watch?" he suggests. "They won't have any way of knowing..." "But we will," I whisper. "And don't we owe it to the others to watch?" I don't know the answer to that question, but it seems like the right thing to say. Oscar sighs. "I know.
