The ride to the apartment wasn't too far away from Matt's home. It was at least a 30 minute ride and the apartment was somewhere near the heart of New York city. I swung my leg from around the motorcycle and took off the helmet then set it on top of the motorcycle.
The area that I'm at had buildings all around it and many streets that can easily get anybody confused. People were rushing to get to the place they need to go and as my eyes wandered around it came across an all white limo. A man with a black suit came out with some sort of object tucked at his waist. The people around him seemed to not see what the man had at his waist for they were focused on getting somewhere and not paying attention to things that could put them in harm’s way.
The man started walking towards a building but suddenly stopped. He looked over his shoulder and his eyes searched the crowd for something. His eyes are a dark brown and his hair matched his dark eyes. His eyes landed on mines and for a second I could have sworn that he mouthed the words 'watch your back' before he continued to walk into the building.
I opened the door to the apartment building and walked into the kitchen. My things were on the counter, prepared for me to unpack it. I picked my things up and walked into the nicely furnished living room and sat on the lather black couch. As my things were being unpacked, the scene that happened not too long ago played in my head over and over.
why did that man told me to watch my back? did he know something that I didn't?
At that moment somebody decided to knock on the door. I raised to my feet and took cautious steps towards the door, my guard was up and I was prepared for a battle. Through the pee-hole there was a girl with long blonde hair that curled at the tips, black eye shadow, and a leather jacket.
"what do you want?" The girl shifted from one leg to the other showing how impatient she is. "I'm here to help you so are you going to let me in or not?"
Yes I was right she is very impatient! a smirk played it's way to my lips as the girl reminds me so well of myself. I opened the front door and stepped aside for the girl to come in. "Help me with what exactly?" she looked up to me with an arched eyebrow and sat her hands on her hips. "I came to help you with the gang....duh!" She rolled her eyes and walked to the black leather couch that I was on not too long ago.
"The....gang?" I don't remember anything that has to deal with a gang. The girl bobbed her head up and down as if saying 'yes'. I closed the front door and sat next to the girl on the lather couch. "Cindy contacted me and told me that my cousin was coming to town so I had to make sure that her and Joey was safe." My eyes doubled to the size of the moon as this new fact was told to me.
For a really long time I've been told that my cousins died in a car crash with my aunt which led to me, Joey, Cindy, and Nick the last of our family to be alive. Hearing that they actually was alive after all these years sent me in complete disbelief.
"you're not my cousin! they've been dead for a really long time and since when did my mom call you? the last thing I remembered was her getting killed."
"Oh come on Jane! I haven't changed at all and you haven't either. I know that you didn't forget how me and Clare looked after all it has only been 4 years."
My hand covered my mouth as shock was sent through my body. It just can't be! Clare and Teresa was killed in a car crash with aunt Victoria, didn't they? This girl did have the same long blond flowing hair and light brown eyes that seem to shine whenever the light hit a certain angle as Teresa's. She could possibly be Teresa with that type of attitude that we have had in common.
"But how?" The girl gave me a small smile that I can remember from anywhere and at that moment I knew that this is actually her. My old childhood best friend, the girl who did everything with me and always had my back. My cousin Teresa!
"My mom wanted people to think that we died after gangs started chasing after us because of something that happened a long time ago. The part that involves your mom is that she is apart of a gang and she contacted us saying that something big is about to start so we had to find you and Joey and to bring y'all to safety."
Teresa gave me a sad look before she wrapped her arms around me in a warm hug. "Nana I missed you so much!" she whispered to me with the name that she gave to me when we were younger. She was the only one who called me by that name because she knew how much I hated my name.
I wrapped my arms around her and gave her a tight but warm squeeze with a few tears coming from the both of us.
"I missed you too Tessa”
