New Alpha

Elizabeth’s POV

I shook my head from these thoughts; while I blamed myself, it did no good dwelling on the things that I cannot change. I finished showering and stepped out of the stall, wrapping one towel around my body another around my hair. My father had loved my long hair, so now I refused to cut it, growing it out.

I stepped in front of the mirror, getting ready to brush my hair, pulling the brush through my damp hair. It was then that I heard her for the first time; she made me drop my brush out of shock.

“It is about time you let that damn wall down, why the hell are you trying to block me out. You know we need to talk before tonight,” she yells into my head, making me rub my temples with my fingers.

“I felt you trying to make the connection, but I was not ready to talk yet. I am not ready for everything to change” I respond back to the voice in my head, I was not lying, I really was not ready for what was to come. “I suppose I should ask your name since you broke through my walls anyways.”

“My name is Topaz, and I must insist that you get ready faster. I want to talk about what happens tonight. We shift tonight; you become the Alpha of our pack tonight. We need to be prepared,” she told me.

I rolled my eyes at her, leave it to my wolf to be a pain in my ass. Doesn’t she know that I am not ready for this? My father was supposed to be with me through this; my mother was supposed to hold my hand and help me get ready. I was not supposed to become the Alpha while alone. As I allow my thoughts to roam, I feel the panic set in; I am not sure I can do this.

Gabriel POV

*Knock, knock* “Elizabeth are you there? I would like to talk to you when you have a moment,” I tell her through her closed door.

I hear her call out back to me, “yes Alpha; I can meet you at your office, momentarily.”

“That will work, thank you Elizabeth.”

Slowly I turn around and walk to Benjamin’s, I mean my office. Six years later and I still cannot adjust to calling it my office. Things were never supposed to turn out this way; Benjamin was supposed to be the Alpha; he was supposed to be the one handing the title over to Elizabeth.

I was supposed to be with my mate, raising our beautiful family. Instead, those damn vampires attacked us, burning our lives to the ground.

I rub the bridge of my nose as I sit down and exhale. Whether this was the way things were supposed to be or not is pointless.

Benjamin is dead; Olivia is dead, but tonight is the night that I finally get to grieve. Tonight I get to pass the title to Elizabeth; she will be the new Alpha.

Elizabeth’s POV

Finally hearing from Topaz, combined with the Alpha wanting to speak to me reminded me that significant changes are coming for the pack and me. I just hope that I can live up to the expectations being laid out for me.

Alpha Gabriel is waiting for me, so I quickly brush my hair and pull it into a messy bun on the top of my head. I will need to shower and get ready later anyways, so there is no need to speed a lot of time getting ready.

I walk over to my closet and grab a t-shirt and a pair of jeans, again keeping it simple. Once I am dressed, I am ready to go talk to Gabriel and see what he wants to talk to me about.
