AN ATTACK.
"What happened again this time around?" Laura asked with a soft tone. This was a human school mixed with a couple of strange people at that too. If werewolves were to have their schools then that would give them out than they expected.
"According to what I heard, she was killed by the Omen and the CCTV footage had captured a cab she entered stop working when it got to the bridge. However, something was strange and that was the fact that the driver suddenly disappeared after coming out of the car and this time around, the woman was already chatting with her husband on her phone. I guess she must have noticed that the driver wasn't there anymore and decided to come out. Then she got killed and her body was dragged to the river underneath the bridge with some of her parts eaten."
Laura shuddered when she heard this. She rubbed her arms as if she had felt goosebumps when listening to the report.
"This is horrific. How could they have done such a thing? Now, I am getting scared of all the possible damages they are causing and making us innocently account for it. I need to discuss this with my dad. It's getting too much already." Laura complained.
Her happy days and thoughts were always ruined by all of the news that she was forced to hear.
"But how did you get to know this, huh? Are you that current?" She asked her.
"Well my friend, I have to be. Moreover, I find it shocking that you didn't know. Everyone has been talking about this since the break of the day."
"Ah, I guess I wasn't following."
"Let's go then." The two girls held each other's hands and found their way to their first class for the day.
======
"This is absurd, Mayor! Very absurd! How can you just sit down and watch the lives of those you were meant to take care of get wasted? The woman who was killed this morning had three kids! Three kids that were so eager to meet their momma but guess what? They would never see her again. It is gone and they will never forget this in their lives this they die." A man rebuked the Mayor in a meeting that was being held regarding the rampant cases of murder that they believed were not done by Humans.
"But these are animals." The Mayor spoke frustratedly, "And I also gave an order regarding the movement hours. People don't listen to also help themselves!" He added.
"Mayor, you and I alongside every other person seated know that these animals are more than ordinary. We have carried out several tests to know if they are natural or supernatural by their DNA samples and guess what? They are supernatural. We can't blame the dad but rather work hard so we don't get any other cases other than this one, okay?" A man with a goatee spoke up. He was part of the committee.
The Mayor rubbed his forehead, sighed, and interlocked his fingers. He was rendered helpless.
"So what are the steps you have developed? Should we go straight into the forest to look for them?" He asked.
The man who spoke earlier and started the whole thing disagreed and laid down his points.
"They don't attack during the day and they don't move around during the day in that form because they know they won't make it out once they are caught. If you are going to catch a madman, you have to act like a madman. The only way to get them is to look for those who understand these animals and get them to take them out of here after they are caught." He suggested.
"Festus, How do we get those that work with these animals? Supernatural at that too?" They asked him.
"Hold on, let me handle it this week and I get back to you. How about that?"
"Not bad. Just quickly get back to us so we can know where we stand. Until then, we will tighten on the security again."
Festus assured them that he would try his best to make sure that he had something at the end of the day that would go a long way in helping them.
==========
After the class that day, Laura decided to head home after Kyla couldn't join her. She had something important to do, she said earlier. As she walked to the bus station, she noticed that Leo was also there reading. She smiled curtly and approached him.
"I have never seen you take a bus before." She spoke, bringing his attention to her. Leo closed the book he was reading and chuckled. Yeah, he had never taken the bus before. He had his car but today, he had to willingly go against what he was used to just to see her.
"You're right. I am here because of someone." He replied. Laura held his gaze for a while.
"Someone? Are they owing you something?" She asked.
"No, I just feel like seeing them. That's all."
That was sharp and discreet. He had successfully hidden the gender from her.
"Hmm. I see."
She nodded reluctantly and looked away. Leo stared at her once in a while when she wasn't looking but she knew he was looking at her. His gaze was intent and it was as if he wanted to tell her something but kept restraining himself further.
"Have you found your mate, Leo?" She suddenly asked which made his heart skip a beat at first. He slowly shook his head.
"I guess Kyla and I are not the only ones to be mateless. What a string of hope in a hopeless situation." She joked and Leo chuckled.
"Why haven't tried looking for her?"
"I have. Being bondless means you get the opportunity to choose the one your heart beats for to develop a bond with him or her. I stopped looking for her a few months ago."
"But why would you?"
"I stopped looking for her because I found out that she was with me - she just hasn't realized herself that I am the right option." He replied. Laura nodded and stood up afterward to get in line.
"The bus is here." She spoke.
Yeah, she didn't want to make the conversation any more awkward than it already was. She didn't want to hear him go any further so he wouldn't ruin her mood. She didn't want this little friendship that they had to get ruined. As much as she was enjoying the attention he was giving her when she really didn't ask for it, she knew it would be a mess - a total one at that if he did confess. Her heart beat for someone else. When the bus parked in front of her, she turned to look at him and saw that he was still not getting up.
"Are you not going?" She asked.
Leo shook his head, "No, I am not going now. I will be going to my mum's place tonight."
"Alright be safe."
"Hmm."
She entered the bus and after alighting its passengers, the driver drove off.
Her ride home was something that she did not enjoy. It was far from being enjoyed by her. The discussions regarding the brutal murder of a mother of three were still going on. Even though it was painful to hear, Laura couldn't bear it anymore and just fixed it in her earpiece.
These Omens were causing nothing more than plain trouble for them.
Who were these Omens? They were known to be the most terrible tribe of the werewolves. They were human eaters and different from the regular werewolves who were only vegetarians and sometimes meat eaters - however not human flesh eaters.
The Omens had been believed to have been extinct for several years - decades to be precise but it came as a surprise when they suddenly started attacking, putting the whole werewolves at risk. It was all thanks to them that the secret of their existence was revealed.
Omens were hard to find when they were not in the wolf form. They looked just like any other human out there until they got a prey that made them go astray. Their eyes change colors and they immediately get to stalk their prey until they have had their last drop of them.
What a terrible world it was becoming! All she wanted was to live in a safe and peaceful world with her man by her side and by man, she meant HIM - her crush.
