Chapter1
HER CRUSH.
Knock! Knock!
Laura removed the blanket that was covering her face and sighed heavily. Why was her life meant to be difficult at this particular time? There was a knock at the door and she darted her view towards the place with angst as if that could chase the person off her door because whoever it was wasn't planning to let it stop.
"Open the f*cking door, dude!" The person Laura recognized to be her best friend shouted.
So she slowly got herself off the bed and walked sluggishly to the door. On her way, she was cursing her under her breath. She unlocked the door and pulled it open only to meet face-to-face with her best friend, Kyla as expected.
The latter raised two bags of snacks and opened her teeth wide to express happiness for the night.
"Well hello there. Wakie…Wakie. It's time for Netflix and chill, baby." Kyla screamed and burst into the room without waiting for Laura any further. Laura closed the door, leaned against the wall, and folded her hands while watching her best friend arrange the snacks on the ground and put things into place for the night.
"Why are you so dull tonight? Is it the weather, the monthly visitor or you aborted a pregnancy?"
Laura rolled her eyes at her friend's nonsensical question.
"We are resuming for the term tomorrow and you want to Netflix and chill?" Laura questioned impulsively causing Kyla to look at her unhappily.
"Do you want me to leave? I can gladly do so to give you more space." She threatened. Laura rolled her eyes and gesticulated that she need not do that. The atmosphere became lively thereafter.
"You didn't join them for dinner and also why are you sleeping by this time? It's only been seven pm. Are you pregnant?"
Laura frowned deeply as she sat on the floor with her.
"What the hell? Why must you always conclude that it's pregnancy?"
"What do you expect from a horny teenager?" Kyla shrugged as if she wasn't one herself.
"Hypocrite. I am just a bit tired and also, I am bored. My parents are not even home and that complicates things even further. I can't move around without having someone follow me. Do you know how annoying it is? I thought after my birthday, I would be given the freedoms I need and deserve but this is…worse!" Laura complained to her friend who chuckled. She turned on the TV and folded her legs. Kyla tore the bag of chips and poured it inside a bowl. She opened up the bottles of soda that she had brought along with her and poured the contents just for the two of them while the movie they intended to watch began in the background.
"I do believe that your parents have reasons for doing this. You just have to trust them and very soon, they will see how sensible you are. Moreover, a lot of killings have been going out there and many people believe it's done by werewolves that aren't ordinary. But you see these humans see us as the threat. That's why we have to be very careful in concealing our identity. That is why our parents are afraid and care for us anyway." Kyla explained calmly to pacify her friend's pain which worked because Laura nodded to agree with her.
"Wow. Motivational and sensational. I guess I have to start taking my life seriously if someone like you can say this out loud. Fine, I understand, and a big thank you to them for taking good care of us." She replied.
"That's the spirit." Kyla commended with a smile and they continued watching the movie without any full interruption. When the movie ended, the both of them retired to Laura's bed. The latter turned off the lights and silence was welcomed, only the sound of their breathing could be heard as they faced the ceiling with their backs down.
"Is there anything bothering you?" Laura asked after a while of silence. Kyla then made a move with her body. She faced Laura by turning her body and leaning on her palm for support as she prepared her mind to speak with Laura.
"Are you not bothered that you are unable to find a mate even after your birthday?" She asked her. Laura locked eyes with her briefly and looked away but not without giving her a nonchalant shrug.
"I am less concerned about that. Why will I be bothered?" She answered and Kyla sighed exaggeratedly before going back into her original position.
"Are you very much bothered about it?"
"Hmm."
"I don't think it's worth wasting our time over…"
"You think so but I don't, Laura. I need someone to share my feelings with. Somebody to hold me and I am nineteen already. I am getting worried that he might not come."
Laura held her hand and pressed it gently to reassure her.
"You don't have to worry much about that, Kyla. We are simply late bloomers and I can assure you that we will find the one our hearts beat for regardless."
Kyla forced a smile and closed her eyes thereafter but deep within her, she was still thinking hard about it.
Laura on her side had someone else in mind - more like a crush. She had had her eyes on him ever since she was young and she really didn't care about their age difference. It was silly how a ten-year-old had a deep interest in a nineteen-year-old back then. Now and then, she would sincerely pray to the moon goddess that he would be her mate when she clocks eighteen but she was over eighteen by a year now and was about to graduate senior high yet she was mateless.
And since the tragedy of werewolves started, her movement was limited because she was the only child her parents had. So she couldn't see him anymore but could hear about his deeds and how handsome he looked now.
These were the things that frustrated her the most. She blinked and sighed softly. No one knew about this, not even her best friend, Kyla, knew she had a crush on him. She couldn't bring herself to say it yet. It was just better that she kept it in her head instead.
She really wished to see him again. Would he still recognize her if he saw her? Would she be attractive enough to grab his attention?
