First Day
At 6 am, Marvin's phone rang, and he groggily answered. "Hello?" he said, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "What's up, bro?" It was Jason Oates, one of Marvin's close friends from his time in the Army. "It's 6 am, bro," Marvin said with a yawn. "I'm just making sure you're up for your first day as CEO of Bash Group," Jason replied. "Yeah, I guess it is the first day, huh?" responded Marvin. "Yes, it is, bro. "You'll be great at this," Jason said encouragingly. "Thanks for the words of encouragement," Marvin said. "Well, let me get ready for this important day, and I'll hit you up later," he added. "OK, bro, peace," Jason said. "Peace," Marvin replied before hanging up. Both friends hung up the phone. Marvin got out of his bed, turned on the TV, and the news was on. The news was talking about Marvin and giving people his background. The news reporter said, "Marvin Kane is a 30-year-old man who is a bachelor and now one of the wealthiest men in the world due to his being named CEO of the Bash Group." As a black man, Marvin is a rare sight in the world, especially in today's society. Marvin had already made major moves at the Bash Group before he even started his first day in the position. He named Jennifer Gomez as his new Vice President instead of naming one of his step-brothers. Marvin cut the TV off. "Yeah, that's enough of that," said Marvin. Marvin took a shower and brushed his teeth. He got dressed and wore a black three-piece Tom Ford suit. Marvin stopped in the kitchen and got some juice and fruit for his breakfast. Marvin was a little nervous about today, so he didn't want to eat a lot. Marvin thought to himself, "I have been on a lot of crazy-ass missions," and he wasn't that nervous. He said to himself, "I can do this." Marvin got into an expensive, special F-150 truck. He started his truck up, and then his phone rang. It was a call from his mom and stepdad, Morgan and Justin Bash. "Hey, guys," said Marvin. "Hello, dear and son," said Marvin's parents. "Are you nervous?" asked Marvin's parents. "I'm a little nervous, but I have been in more stressful situations than this," said Marvin. "Situations that we can't know about," said Morgan. "Yep," replied Marvin. "Why are you so secretive?" said Morgan. "Because it's classified, Mom!!!" said Marvin. "Son, I just want you to know that I believe in you and have chosen you to be my successor for a reason," said Justin. "What is that reason, Dad?" said Marvin. "I can't tell you that right now, son. You will know down the road, son," said Justin to Marvin. "Hmmm, okay, well, I have to go and focus on driving to the office," said Marvin. "We know driving through downtown Atlanta and traffic can be a hassle. So goodbye and love you," said Morgan and Justin. "Love y'all too. Bye," said Marvin. The Bash Group is made up of multiple businesses in various regions around the world. It spans from real estate to entertainment. A lot of the board members were unhappy with Justin's decision to name Marvin as his successor because Marvin was unknown to them. Most of the board members know Justin's two biological sons, Kylan and Aaron Bash, who grew up around the company and had a privileged upbringing. Justin felt that his legacy would be ruined if he named one of his sons as the successor to his company. Justin has kept a lot of secrets, and only his wife, Morgan, and Marvin know why he is stepping away from the company. Justin is battling stage 2 lung cancer with all his might. Bash Group is one of the biggest buildings in Atlanta, and Marvin is staring at it before turning it into the company parking lot. Marvin had just arrived at the company and parked his truck in the CEO's parking space. Surprisingly, the parking spot still had Justin's name on it. Marvin chuckled to himself, considering it to be a warm welcome. As he got out of his truck, he texted Jennifer to check if she had arrived since she had recently moved to Atlanta from Texas. Jennifer replied immediately, saying she was waiting for him in the lobby. After exchanging text messages, Marvin walked into the lobby and was greeted by Jennifer's warm hug. It had been five years since they had seen each other. Jennifer and Marvin had served together in the Army and shared a brother-and-sister relationship. Although Jennifer is three years younger than Marvin, they had been inseparable during their time in the Army, and everyone thought they were dating. Marvin found it amusing because many people did not know that Jennifer was gay. She did not tell many people about her sexuality. Jennifer is an attractive woman, standing at 5 feet and 4 inches with a slim-fit figure. Her stunning red hair caught Marvin's attention, and he complimented her on her new hair color. Jennifer teased Marvin, saying he still looked the same unless he had any hidden scars that she didn't know about. Marvin chuckled in response, his face lighting up with a broad smile." We can't talk about what I did when I was an agent," Marvin said, his tone serious." Whatever!! "Kane, you're going to tell me sooner or later," Jennifer said, rolling her eyes playfully." Anyway, you know I got the clearance to be in the know," she added, with a sense of pride." Since when did you get the clearance?" Marvin asked, genuinely curious."I was supposed to be an agent too, but I turned them down. They still let me keep the clearance, though," Jennifer said, shrugging her shoulders." Hmm, that's interesting," Marvin said, nodding his head in agreement." Yes, it is," Jennifer said, smiling. "Let's head up to the main conference room and meet everyone."I was wondering where everyone was because the lobby was empty," Marvin said, as they walked down the hallway." Yeah, my stepdad sent everyone an email saying that everyone needs to be here by 8:30 am in the main conference room, so they can know we are here." Marvin and Jennifer stepped into the sleek elevator, its polished metal surfaces reflecting their nervous expressions. Marvin pressed the illuminated button for the fifteenth floor, where the main conference room awaited them. "Are you ready for this?" asked Jennifer, fidgeting with the strap of her briefcase. "More than I ever will be," replied Marvin, taking a deep breath.
