It’s my Fault/The Book

**Jessie’s POV-Age 13

  I don’t know how long I’ve been running for but I am so tired. I don’t know where am, what days it is, or when the last time I had a decent meal was. Being on the run, I’ve learned that a title means nothing unless you fight for it and earn it, not being a spoiled ass little baby demanding everything from everyone. I have learned that I have to stand up for what I believe in, fight for what I want and what is right, challenge myself to be a better person, and to be a strong werewolf. I would give up all the silly and unimportant things that I had begged for over the years just to have one more day with my parents. It’s all my fault they are dead, all because I was spoiled and didn’t take the time to learn to be a true Alpha and caused my pack to hate me, and my parents. I am so stupid. And for what? To see my parents murdered? To be exiled from my own pack? To have to fight off rogues, vampires, witches, and everything else that goes bump in the night? God, I am pathetic!

Moon: I can hear your horrible thoughts and you need to stop it right now. Your mother and father died because their Beta was as a selfish and greedy piece of s**t that wanted to be on top and didn’t care what he had to do to accomplish that. He didn’t even care about killing a child!! It is not your fault.

Jessie: But it is my fault, Moon. He hated me, hated how spoiled I acted and that I wasn’t growing up to be the Female Alpha I should be. I was a joke, no one liked me. It wasn’t just him, the pack was behind him. They came after me too.

Moon : Yes, they came after you because the are terrified of him. He would of killed anyone that challenged him. It was obvious that he had no problem in killing anyone that stood in his way of being an Alpha. He took the p*****s way to take over!!

Jessie: He murdered them!! He overpowered my daddy!!

Moon: There is no way he could have, and if your mom and dad fought together.....and you know they did. He had to have done something to them. I know he couldn’t have taken them. He had to have drugged them or something.

Jessie: It’s still my fault, Moon. He hated that I was so spoiled and wasn’t the strong Alpha Female the pack needed me to be. He killed them because he didn’t like that daddy wasn’t forcing me to be exactly who I needed to be for the pack.

Moon: Yes, you were spoiled and bratty but your were still just a kid and daddy wanted you to enjoy your childhood a bit longer before you had to grow up. That’s all. Daddy would have made you start growing up, probably about now. You are 13 now. So that would be an it the right time to start Alpha training and when most wolves first shift.

Jessie: I am?

Moon: Yes, caramel. We passed our birthday a few months back. I didn’t tell you I because you have been so sad and too busy fighting to stay alive. I didn’t want to make you sadder or upset you. Mommy and daddy would be so proud of you and how strong you have gotten.

I started crying as soon as she called me caramel. I wasn’t ready to hear daddy’s nickname for me yet. It hurt to hear it. Would they be proud of me or would the hate me? I felt like I was shattering in two.

Moon: Oh no, I’m so sorry, Jessie. I won’t call you that again until you tell me it’s ok. Mommy and Daddy could never hate you, they will love you always. No matter where they are. Please just hang in there, we are meant for wonderful things once we find our mate. The Moon Goddess told me. We will get through this together. I will always be here for you and will always support you through everything.

I took several deep breaths and pulled myself together. My sobbing slowly became a few tears still running down my cheeks. I looked up to the sky and said a prayer to my parents. 

Jessie: Sorry and thanks, Moon. I will always be here for you too and I will always support you too. I just wasn’t expecting to hear that name and it just took me by surprise. I don’t want to forget daddy’s nick name for me.

Moon: I won’t use it for now. I love you, Jessie.

Jessie: I love you too, Moon. Well which way should we head. We need to find shelter soon, the sun is about to go down.

Moon: I smell a body of water nearby. It’ll take about an hour to get to and we will need to be careful, it is right on the border of no man’s land and a pack territory. We should be able to clean up and maybe find some fish for dinner. Since it smells like a good sized body of water, we should be able to find somewhere to hide, set some traps, and sleep.

Jessie: Ok. Lets head that way. I am beat. That last rogue was tougher than most of them have been.

**Axel’s POV-  Age 16

This last year has been a total blur. Isaiah and I have been busting our asses to get ready to compete in the pack challenge. This is where I would prove that I was the fastest, strongest, smartest, just all around the best. It is a yearly competition similar to the Olympics. I wanted to make Zeus and Cristin proud of the man they have raised me to be. They have been the best thing that has ever happened to me. Zeus said that he still senses something special about me but he can’t place what it is. I was hoping the challenge will show him what it is. The challenge is in a few days and I think I am ready to win it.

Isaiah and I were meeting up to head over to the library to do some reading. Since we have become friends, no one bullies him anymore and he is making more friends. They all learned rather quickly that I would not tolerate bullying and if anyone touched my best friend, I’d beat the s**t out of them. We become a force to be reckoned with and no one wanted to challenge us individually and even less so as a team.

Duke: Dude, we need to get to the library or Isaiah will beat us there.

Axel: Alright, alright. You have no chill lately. What’s up?

Duke: I don’t really know. I just really feel like something is about to happen that is going to have a major impact on us. I feel like it will be good but I’m not sure what exactly it is.

Axel: Well if it is something good why the hell are you so anxious?

Duke: It’s an excited anxious....bite me, asshole.

Axel: Haha. Ok almighty Alpha.

Duke stopped talking to me at that point, he knows I’m just teasing him but his anxiousness could cause use to be too distracted if we were to be attacked and he will never let that happen. We protect our territory 100%. No one comes through without us knowing about it. I beat Isaiah to the library and decided to wait out front. I hate going into that place by myself.

Duke: Pussy

Axel: f**k off, Duke. It smells and it’s old as f**k. Who knows what could be trapped in those walls.

“Hey man,” Isaiah yelled as he neared the library.

“Right on time my man.” I stood up and gave him a hug.

“It cracks me up that you are still afraid of this place,” Isaiah laughed.

“You and Duke both, man. He was just giving me s**t for the same thing.” I chuckled and shook my head in response.

We started to walk in and headed to the basement for the oldest texts about our kind. These manuscripts contained everything, from legends, the lore as to our creation, the Moon Goddess, everything that you can imagine.

“Dude, if you hate being in the library so much, why do you insist on coming to the basement?” Isaiah asked as we made it to the basement door.

“I think our past history, lore, and legends should be learned and taught to future generations. It is a part of who we are and Duke is instant that we need this information for our future. He doesn’t know why or when we will need the information, but he is sure we need to know about all of it,” I told him. I kept no secrets from Isaiah. He knows everything. “And with Duke more anxious lately, I feel like I need to get through this stuff.”

“Alright man. Where does Duke want me to start?” He asked me.

Axel: Duke?

Duke: He can start on the Moon Goddess section. We’ve read most of it already so have him read the last section of it. I feel like we need to read the lore and legends. I feel like a book is calling out to me.

Axel: Really? That’s a first. You’ve never told me that before.

Duke: I’ve never felt it before.

Axel: Alright.

“Duke wants you to read the last section on the Moon Goddess. He said there is a book calling to him in the lore and legends section.” I told him

“Dude, are you serious? Has that ever happened before?” He asked me.

“No, and we are both a bit nervous about that but excited too. It’s weird. Just read what you can on the Moon Goddess, I have read almost everything over there, so that will finish it off.” I told him as I headed to the book that was calling to my wolf. 

I heard Isaiah pulling books from the shelf, and headed to the lore and legends section of the library. I started feeling the pull that Duke must have been feeling earlier, and it is getting strong. I feel like I am attached by a string and am being pulled, and if I don’t get to this book a piece of me will fade away. The further I walked the more I felt like I was close to where the book was and realized that I was beyond the lore and legends section and was in a room that I have never seen before. It was a large circular room with a glowing moon on the ceiling, and in the middle of the room stood a single podium with a large book on it. I could still see the lore and legends section, it was like an invisible line to where this section continued into a secret room. 

I have been in this sections hundreds of time and I have never seen this room. I always just rested on the wall at the end of the shelves to read, so why didn’t I find the room then? My mind was running wild with thoughts, when my eyes stopped on the dark navy blue book with gold and crimson ruins on the cover. It opened on its own to a page that seemed to glow for a few minutes before the light dimmed down. I was hesitant to move, this is why I hated to come to this library. I was always worried some weird s**t like this would happen and here I am in some f*****g hidden room with a book that opens on its own. Seriously who the f**k would want to walk up to a book that just opened in a closed room with no one else in it, no windows, and no doors? 

Duke: Quit being a p***y. We are an Alpha. Get over there, it’s safe. It is the book that has been calling to us.

Axel: And you don’t find it weird that we have never felt it before, some magical room appeared all of a sudden, and the damn book opened......by itself......without me touching it!

Duke: Axel, I know that you can feel it too. You know it’s safe. I know this is all really weird but it is trying to talk to us. We need to know what is going on.

Axel: You’re right. I need to man up and see why this book wants to show us anything.

I made my way over to book and peered down. The first section read, “The Moon Goddess appeared and foretold that she has chosen the werewolf mates who will be made the Alpha King and Alpha Queen. It is said that these mates would have suffered a hard road, came out stronger, of pure heart, and prevailed to be the saviors of the werewolves in their greatest time of need. They will have chosen protectors as destined by the Moon Goddess.”

Duke: Maybe the book has chosen us to protect the King and Queen, that must be why we get to see this. A prophecy from the Moon Goddess herself....

Axel: Wow. Zeus always said I was special. To protect the King and Queen. Crazy.

Duke: Keep reading. There is more.

I looked back at the book and c****d my head. The rest was in another language that I didn’t understand but somehow was able read aloud, “Deleth viae dolore eu roboris eorum. Beati a luna, pone for tuum, c*m suis animabus donum virtutis. Et regnabit rex, et regina lupus et socii ejus unitum est. Cuncta populationibus et nisi. A quod iam notatum animo legit, ut amondo iam tibi donum do.” (Roads of pain shall lead them onto roads of strength. Blessed by the moon, mark their souls with gifts of power. United mates shall reign as King and Queen of the wolf nation. They shall save them all from devastation. A marked soul reads this now, enact the gift I give thee now.)

As I finished reading a bright gold light surrounded me, and I felt a light but comfortable burn on my right shoulder. I closed my eyes as the light became too bright. A few seconds later, though it felt like hours, it seemed as though everything stopped. As I opened my eyes, I was no longer in the room but standing at the end of the lore and legends section facing the wall. Did I just dream that s**t?

Isaiah came running to me, “Dude what the hell did you do? My right hip starting burning and then I felt as if I needed to come make sure you were safe! What the f**k happened? I mean one minute I am just sitting there reading, then all of a sudden there is a flash of light, and my hip is warm, and then I just had to get up. I mean I always worry about you, not only are you my best friend but I am your Beta. I mea.....”

“Dude,” I had to cut his rambling off. “What do you mean your hip started burning and you saw a bright light? Slow down, breath.”

“Ok, ok. Sorry. It’s like I said. I was just sitting and reading about the Moon Goddess, then there was a bright light that lasted a few seconds, my hip was kinda warm, and then it stopped.” He blurted out, still clearly confused.

“Which side of your hip?” I asked him.

“My right. Why?”

“Show me.” I said as I reached for the hem of his shirt to look at this hip. As I lifted his shirt, I noticed a tattoo that I had never seen before. It was of a knight with a sword in front of him and the moon behind him. “When the f**k did you get a tattoo? And why didn’t you tell me?”

“I didn’t get a tattoo! That’s where my hip was burning and this just showed up, dick.”

Then it hit me, my right shoulder had burned a bit in the light. Maybe it wasn’t a dream. “Dude, look at my right shoulder.”

Isaiah looked at my like I was crazy. “Dude, what is going on?”

“Just look, Isaiah! I need you to check before I can answer that.” He came over and lifted my shirt and I heard him gasp.

“Axel, man, your tattoo is gorgeous. When did you get that?”

“What does it look like?” I asked him, so I started to get anxious.

“It’s two wolves intertwined howling at the moon with a crown surrounding them. It’s absolutely stunning man. Wait, don’t you know what it looks like? Didn’t you pick it?”

I held my breath for a second, and held up a finger. I let out a slow breath and evaluated my body. I felt different...stronger, powerful. What happened?

Axel: Duke, any idea as to what happened?

Duke: You can feel it. We are more powerful, stronger, more dominate, our senses are increased. We were marked.

Axel: Marked by what? We haven’t found our mate!

Duke: We were marked as the King, when you read that thing in the book. We are destined to be King.

Axel: What the f**k? That was real? How the hell can I be King? I am a nobody orphan. You said we were chosen as the protectors.

Duke:  I was wrong. It’s all clear now, the Moon Goddess told me. We came from a hard road to a road of strength. The book identified us as the rightful King and showed us the page to read to mark us. The Moon Goddess chose us. The Moon Goddess said we should only talk to Isaiah, Zeus, and Cristin about this. No one else can know until we find mate and the time is right.

Axel: Ok, ok. Lets say I believe all of this. What happened to Isaiah? And when is the right time?

Duke: I don’t know when the right time will be but she will tell us. Isaiah was marked as our protector. He is our first knight. He is strong and we can trust him.

Axel: Holy s**t. You’re not joking, are you?

Duke: No.

Axel: How do I prove this all to Isaiah? 

Duke: Take him to the room and show him the book after you tell him the story.

Axel: The room disappeared, I can’t.

Duke: It disappeared only until you accepted who we are now. We can access it whenever we want now and so can Isaiah. But he must accept his role first.

Axel: Ok. Here goes nothing.

I snapped out of it and looked up at Isaiah.

“Nice chat?” He laughed.

“Something like that. It was a lot of information to take in. Lets sit and I’ll tell you everything. This is going to be a lot to take in but I need you to listen and believe me.”

“Axel, I know you would never lie to me man. Of course, I will believe you.”

He sat down, and told him everything. From finding the room, to the light, and the room disappearing. I glanced over and could see into to the room but could tell there was a protective veil over it. I looked at Isaiah and finished by saying, “You have been marked as a protector and first knight. And I...I...have been marked as the King. But we cannot tell anyone but Zeus and Cristin until I find my mate and Queen.”

Isaiah just stared at me in shock for a few minutes. Before I showed him the room.

Jessie’s POV

I made my way to water that Moon had told me about. As I got closer I noticed it was a beautiful lake surrounded by a forest of trees. I feel like I have been in the desert forever, and now I was surrounded by trees and luscious forest. I saw a small sign announcing that I was at Trampas Lake located in the Carson City National Forest in New Mexico.

Jessie: How the hell did we get into New Mexico? I though we were back in Texas.

Moon: I think we got turned around and a little lost after that rogue attacked a few months back. 

Jessie: Well at least it’s nice here. I thought New Mexico was a desert but this place is beautiful. We could stay here a while.

Moon: Sure. We just need to make sure we stay in no man’s land. This place is on the edge of pack territory. It might be in the pack territory but the smell here is different, so I think we are safe. Lets go for a swim so we can bathe. 

Jessie: Ok, human first, then wolf. Trust me, I think my human side smells way worse than you do.

Moon: Oh trust me, you do. I can smell you and you are ripe, sister.

Jessie: Haha. Ok, I get it. I’m going.

I quickly scanned the surrounding area to make sure I was alone and it was safe. I then took my clothes off, washed them as best I could, and then laid them out to dry. I then climbed in and let me tell you this water was so cold! What I wouldn’t do for a proper bath...

I quickly washed myself and allowed myself to air dry before shifting into my beautiful wolf. Over the years, she has become quite large and her white fur looks like glistening snow and is so silky. I think she is bigger than my dad’s wolf was and I am not even 18 yet. Moon stood tall and proud admiring her reflection in the lake. 

Moon: I have gotten stronger and bigger because we are fully bonded and we have become stronger and learned to be a true Alpha Female.

Jessie: You are beautiful moon. What do you mean we are fully bonded?

Moon: We are beautiful, you are growing into a gorgeous young lady. We fully bonded when we ran away. We both can control our lycan form. Most bond 50% to 75% with their human, and vice versa. But we have bonded 100%. You can give me full control without me becoming all wolf because you are still there with me. I can give you 100% control but still be there too

Jessie: That’s so cool!

And with that moon jumped into the lake to bathe, play, and fish. She stayed in the water for an hour or so, before climbing out and shaking off. She found a large rock to curl up on to sun dry and lay down the five fish she caught. After awhile, we shifted back. My clothes were nice and dry now, and quickly got dressed as the sun began going down. 

I went into the woods a short ways to collect some wood to build a fire and cook the fish for dinner. Once the fire was going, I began cooking the fish one at time so that I wouldn’t waste. I could only eat 3, so I took the other 2 back to the lake and staked them into the water to keep them cold and from floating away. Then I’d have breakfast. I wasn’t worried about any animals coming and taking it, they stay away from us werewolves.

I headed back to the cave when all of a sudden a bright golden light began shinning all around me and encompassing me in the light. My left shoulder began to warm and burn slightly. It wasn’t painful or uncomfortable. After a few seconds, that felt like hours, the light vanished and everything was back to normal. 

Jessie: What the heck was that?

Moon: We have been marked.

Jessie: What? We don’t even have a mate and no one was here.

Moon: No, we were marked as blessed by the Moon Goddess but I have no idea for what or why. But I feel stronger and more powerful now.

Jessie: So it’s a good thing? I don’t need to worry.

Moon: Yes, it’s a good thing. No need to worry. We are special, just like daddy told us. Let’s get some rest. We need it.

I finished my walk back up to the cave and laid against a wall to sleep. My mind wondered with what happened and what we are marked to do. Oh well, I guess tomorrow is another day and I will find out soon enough.
